So… a one trillion dollar assemblage of weapons and force, administered by a drunkard newbie who reports to a demented raging loon, with an inherent hustle that advances the ‘world’s richest’ druggie? That’s what the United States of America is going to become?

Me too. 65 never married. Got close a few times and we're still friends but... no children either. However, that was due to protection or in some cases, luck. I'm glad that I don't have children now. I'd be more worried for them than I would be for myself.

A one trillion dollar giveaway to the war profiteers led by Lockheed, Raytheon, Grumman, Boeing, SpaceX, Starlink and others. Intended to enrich the obscenely rich by spending money on shit weapons the military doesn't want, doesn't need, don't work, and require massive expensive training and maintenance. Oh, and to buoy the US war profiteers who are going to lose billions in business from our NATO "allies" who are going to buy alternatives in response to Trump and Hegseth.

Peter That's what I said..before seeing this. The money goes to the contractors! Far more than the military itself.

We've all seen the evidence that Doald Trump is a lousy businessman--his businesses have gone bankrupt, or lost lawsuits for their lack of integrity (e.g., Trump University); and that Elon Musk has recklessly wrecked Twitter as he turned it into hate speech, and managed to turn the public against Tesla. These are two men who waste their lives and the lives of those around them. Their political agendas promote hatred, narrow vision, and demeaning those they see in their way of accumulating greater wealth.

What is wrong with us? We have spent most of our governmental wealth on military buildup. This administration is not protecting our population from poverty and lost hope of achieving any American Dream--our former calling card, that "which truly made America great." Instead Trump wants an expensive military parade to honor his ego and emulate the ways of Vladimir Putin.

Who are we protecting ourselves from anyway? Who can stand up to the mighty US of A in straight up, head to head warfare? We would do better spending MORE on USAID thus deriving a greater peace benefit and reducing the need for weapons.

But like every other business out there, weapons guys want to increase sales year after year! So they put their collective thumbs back on the scales and viola... here we are.

I had read about the 1 trillion on defense, and some humongous increase in the spending on ICE prisons as well. Both are crazy.

First of all, we need to call on Democrats to block that bill. We should be writing to our senators and representatives about this, and Chuck Shumer as well, since he is not to be trusted. Ask him to use his sick days if he cannot bare to vote in our interests.

There is no national security with these buffoons heading the Intelligence Community, and DOD, as well as the actions of Musk and dodgy DOG-E!

Secondly, I had read that amount and think it is not just the weapons that make an armed force, but the people. Trump does not treat them right. If he had his druthers the military would be all robots.

Everyone knows that the DOD is the biggest waste department that there is. We have to insist that cuts be made and that should be the focus of marches and demonstrations.

The future of war is drones- cheap, easy, and fast to make and easily train personnel on their use. The Ukraine/Russo war is the proving grounds for what's next as evident by their first successful all drone- territorial and aerial- by the Ukrainian military in December that not only routed an entrenched Russian force but forced them to flee. Compare this to the US insistence on procurement of single planes and tanks that take years to build and cost billions. Here we are- Clowns with blow torches giving contracts to tech bros oligarchy. That is our unsafe future.

Thanks, Judd, for this much-needed focus. Biden and the Dems in Congress approved DOD increases and continued to spend on nuclear weapons. Biden did not restore Obama's nuclear deal with Iran, and he acceded to nearly every weapons request from Israel and abetted their war crimes and ethnic cleansing.

Now the Dems will have an opportunity to stand against this budget and become the pro-peace party. But will they?

Actually the need for an audit by each Federal Department was enacted much earlier - in 1990. The Chief Financial Officers Act. The DOD has never even begun to meet its requirements and the law keeps being amended to forgive DOD or give them more time. All the dubious arguments for DOGE are equally evidence AGAINST continuation of the Trump tax cuts. So while mercilessly and stupidly erasing our government in the name of cost cutting the same people are wastefully increasing DOD budget and making sure our tax revenues will stay too low. But Republicans, lacking back bones and spines, can be very flexible can't they???
