Feels weird to not be talking about Joe Manchin when discussing one man standing in the way of substantive legislation to address the effects of climate change, but this is a good reminder of how committed the fossil fuel industry is to thwarting progress up and down the levels of government.

Thanks for calling out Heastie, Judd. This is the only way to apply pressure to climate criminals.

Thx Judd. Most disturbing. Also disturbing in NYC we have a school supt who comes from the CHARTER school community. The press rel says he "founded a chain of public schools.". True, but left out the word CHARTER. I am not aware of any other large school system being run by a CHARTER school executive.

One problem with the initiative: using electricity via the grid to heat space is massively more expensive than using natural gas (local solar panels address that issue well). A better approach would be to reduce heat transfer through glass to minimal amounts. The only technology out there to do that is a startup struggling to find the cash to set up their production facility.

In my mind, legislation should drive energy savings for all new construction regardless of height. Let the consumers decide how to meet the requirements.

As for cooking appliances, I agree gas should be banned, not only because of carbon emissions, but because of toxic emissions - small but measurable - that occur with open flames. Unlike furnaces which are equipped with exhaust mechanisms, kitchen stoves and ovens are not.
