I live in downtown Chicago. On Sunday masked, armed federal agents dressed in camouflage literally invaded Millennium Park. This occurred on a warm sunny day when the park was full of locals and tourists. These federal agents harassed an immigrant family and hauled them away to a suburban detention center.
Next, they marched up Michigan Avenue where they arrested a construction worker. They then chased a food delivery person on a bike, but the biker outsmarted them and got away.
They weren’t done making their presence known so they descended on the Newbury Library (a research library) which is located in the Gold Coast neighborhood. While there, they obstructed the sidewalks and were a general nuisance. Of note is the fact that Governor JB Pritzker lives in the Gold Coast!
All of this while their armed, masked colleagues continued their “mission” of motoring up and down the main branch of the Chicago River looking for “illegal aliens”! What they found instead were locals taking their motor boats out onto Lake Michigan and tourist boats on river and lake cruises. For good measure the agents docked their boat in front of Trump Tower Chicago which sits on the north bank of the river.
This was the performative section of their Chicago take over. Now that the trump regime has named the people of Chicago the “enemy within” we can expect these masked, armed federal agents to be violent with anyone they choose. We see this daily as the agents at the detention center gas journalists and protesters on a daily basis.
Im thinking they don't feel too bad since they are doing it and they keep doing it. As a marine, there are no former marines, what is there to do but follow orders because there is no other leader for them to follow. Im thinking the military is not the last strand of hope people thought they might be. There is no opposition party. Then, on Sunday night they raided an apartment building in South Shore and arrested 37 people. ICE said members of Tren de Agua had been seen entering the building, but we don't know if they were among those arrested.
Yes, the agents apparently caused great damage to the building during the raid. The building was an easy mark for the feds because of the number of people from Venezuela who had been placed there after Texas sent them to Chicago. Were there gang members in the building? Maybe, but honestly I don’t believe any information coming from the trump regime.

Unfortunately the 6 members of the Supreme Court (Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett) have demonstrated repeatedly that they will not restrain the #DirtyOldMan. They keep throwing lower court decisions and judges under the bus, reversing careful decisions that follow what has always been the law. They are literally just free wheeling, in many cases not ever bothering to make up a decision (shadow docket). It is clear that we need to unstack the court. I don't see an other way out of this.
In your next column, please highlight the cities that have the highest crime rates. Doubtless most of them will be in red states, proving once again that Trump‘s main motive for most of his actions is revenge.
