Fabulous details on how this bill could be used as a weapon on any of us. Judd & Noel great reporting again. Keep the lights on no matter how deeply buried.

Conservatives rarely do anything not for profit so they assume this could never affect them.

Agreed. They only see the light when the lightening strikes them and roasts their keister.

Unless it's personal a problem just don't matter... until it does.

Bye, bye ActBlue, churches that shelter immigrants, Planned Parenthood, NPR/PBS, etc., etc., etc.

Thank you SO much for going through the 389 pages of this duplicitous bill that we learned that some Republicans want to have passed in the middle of the night. Thus, everyone reading this article, please, notify your Representative if they be Democrats to stay vigilant to prevent the passage of Trumps's big beautiful billl ( a bloated ugly bill).

Is this bill the handwork of Russell Vought of Project 2025? Thank you for this exposure. Please continue to define the particuars so that "the Voice of the People" knows what to protest against.

I just forwarded Judd's article to my new Rep in Congress, Herb Conaway. I suggested he find fellow Democrats who can stay awake to prevent the bill's passage in the middle of the night. I also suggested he include any "open" Republicans.

I was upset when our, at the time, Congresswoman Slotkin voted to move that bill/provision for labeling nonprofits out of committee. I knew this would happen.

Thanks Judd. I write a daily call script for followers of Shenandoah County VA Democrats. We also recommend 5 Calls, but people like an option. Our cowardly "representative" is MAGA Cline in Virginia's 6th District. This is great information for a call script.

Right, because they don’t believe this will certainly come back to bite them? Why give a future Democratic administration the power to take away the nonprofit status of every conservative organization?

Yet another strange direction to go in a country that is almost equally divided politically — the kind of thing you only do if you actually believe you will never lose power (and despite their authoritarian actions and fantasies, I don’t think the GOP believes it will succeed in abolishing elections before 2028). This is yet another right wing idea that was cooked up in an environment where they never expected to actually take power, hence they never really thought it through.

They thought it through. They have been planning and planning for years, Project 2025. They may not abolish elections but they know they can buy elections with their billionaires so they aren't going anywhere unless their billionaire funding stops.

It's a mistake to think things that have always been, will continue to be. One side is unscrupulous, ruthless, organized and determined. The other is still trying to play by rules that have been trampled. I think Republicans are making the bet that they won't ever be out of power any time soon.

Only if they abide by the parliamentarian's ruling, which they're already poised to ignore. The rules of engagement are all changed, so nothing is certain except GOP treachery.

This is NOT good! Besides contacting our congress people to vote against this, is there any groups fighting this that we can donate to? I already give to ACLU.

The GOP disdain for evidence was originally focused on what evidence WAS, during the stop the steal actions. "My sister in law's hairdresser saw with her x ray eyes that the suitcases had fake votes" was perfectly good evidence if in a "sworn affidavit." Now it is a disdain for any evidence at all for government actions. We are seeing this in the idea (embraced by some immigration courts) that the Secretary of State's "personal opinion" about how an op-ed by a visa holder must "compromise a compelling United States foreign policy interest" that overcomes First Amendment rights--with no evidence as to HOW that op ed does this. And now this new law lets that same dearth of evidence attack the rights of CITIZENS.

The same thing is happening with actions that will KILL people. The mass stoppage of USAID funding without ANY evidence that a particular grant was waste, fraud, or abuse kills "furriners" but Medicaid cuts without any evidence that a particular recipient has committed W/F/A is going to kill CITIZENS. For those with insulin dependent diabetes, that killing can take just days or weeks to happen if insulin isn't available.

Very sneaky. Trump is trying to take away free speech. It's buried in his so-called "beautiful bill". This regime reminds me of the book and TV series "The Handmaid's Tale". Little by little, they took away rights, especially from women. Start small so no one notices. But Trump has been going full blast since day one—there are no subtleties with this guy. Things are moving at neck-breaking speed, and the diversions are constant. Don't be fooled. Remember, today they come for the immigrant, tomorrow a trans, the day after a Catholic, Jew, Muslim, and finally they will come for you. WAKE UP AMERICA! Your country, your democracy, and you are under attack!!!!!
