PLEASE do a deep investigative report on why there would be no need for ICE and border patrol IF congress did its job and passed a bipartisan immigration bill. It is congress' job to get this done. Immigration has been a hot political topic for decades. There have been no changes to immigration laws since the 1980's which is inexcusable. Also, please cover in depth the Healthcare crisis in America (cover states offering free medical care from time-to-time that have thousands of poor people attending). Include healthcare stats: what percentage of the population does not seek medical care because they can't afford it. What is the history of Obamacare? How have Republicans dismantled it piece by piece. What are some solutions? What states have good healthcare insurance?

And while you’re at it, please remodel my bathroom!

Yes, and could you include examples of which countries if any do a good job of immigration laws that allow foreign workers? Singapore comes to mind as a possible example.

Any chance any of the Trump/MAGA attorneys, either in or out of government, will face professional consequences (sanctions, suspensions, disbarments) for their participation in these frivolous suits filed in bad faith at Trump’s direction?

Linda's avatar

YES! They have aided and furthered the grift of this family and destroyed faith in our judicial system.

The only good thing they’ve done is point out weaknesses in our system and laws. It just slays me how Trump can appeal and delay for years.

The American Bar Association appears to be toothless on the matter as well.

I’m wondering if court cases against Comey and Leticia James include the Trump regime paying their costs. The legal fees must be quite high for these two.

I would like a strategic plan for HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS MESS. Specifically, the thousands of messes created by the current ham-fisted bluster-filled, destructive Trump regime. We're always putting out fires. There needs to be a unified and unifying plan to get rid of these fools (non-violently of course) and rebuild America, ASAP.

Katy Bolger's avatar

Like Signe, I am at a loss to understand who is leading the opposition party. Who is the emerging voice/s coming out this mess with a clear vision to turn this mess around? I lay awake (again) thinking how much of this current mess is attributable to Nixon (50+ years ago), Reagan (40+ years ago), the Gingrich legacy, or even the Confederate States of America (175+years ago) and how long it took (is still taking) the country to emerge from those political messes? Can we save it or is America doomed? (My thoughts actually go back to the Roman Republic and the bloody empire that followed as one of our strands of how the patriarchy ruins everything.)

You are so right. According to *How Democracies Die* (very depressing but accurate), our current malaise lays squarely at the feet of Gingrich. Traitor.

Blue Cross suddenly decided to stop Silver Sneakers, which provided free membership at places like YMCA, Lifetime Fitness, etc., for people over 65. Since exercise is one of the best ways to stay healthy, it has been helpful to the insurance companies because fit people tend to have fewer medical issues, saving money for BXBS. The company sent out emails with this new information after business hours on Friday so people couldn’t contact them for 2 1/2 days! I wonder how much money the executives at BXBS earn vs. how much they save by canceling the Silver Sneakers program.

Many seniors who have benefited from this program would greatly appreciate your delving into this, maybe shining enough light on BXBS’ decision to cancel this beneficial program that they’ll reverse tracks. In this political climate, it’s unlikely. But some of us will switch from BXBS supplemental plans to another insurer, such as Medica, that still provides free membership to gyms.

Medicare “Advantage” is a scam regardless which company is selling it.

That's not uncommon for next year. I had the same issue with another one.

Continue to follow the money, your reporting these topics seem to scare the right more than any other scandal. Thank you for what you do!

What is going on inside the US Military. Who is resisting, who is capitulating, who is cheering on the unconstitutional illegal actions?

How the military is responding as Trump pushes beyond norms and limits both internationally and domestically is vitally important. Difficult to report I’m sure, but if the military leadership does not ultimately resist, Democracy is in big trouble.

I admittedly don't know as much about the escalating situation in Venezuela as I should. Also, RIP DOGE...we hardly knew ye.

Charlie Cooper's avatar

Trump's murder campaign against the boats is so obviously a criminal enterprise. The mainstream media are glad to show the snuff videos but suppress discussion of the illegality. Also, plans to invade or cause regime change or perhaps steal the oil resources of Venezuela follows a long line of failed campaigns by the U.S.

Katy Bolger's avatar

DOGE will be felt for years: the IRS sent me a letter saying, you paid your taxes but we don't have your return for 2022. BS. This is DOGE's doing.

As for Venezuela: yes, they are in a fascist mess but they are not a danger to the U.S., All you need to understand about Venezuela is that they are a weak country sitting on a huge oil reserve.

Next story? Two words: voter suppression.

raojenkins's avatar

This. What is being done to protect the 2026 elections.

What the regime is doing / likely to do to corrupt, subvert, or ignore the elections.

What the electorate should prepare for and be prepared to do to protect our democracy.

I'd like to read more about Citizens United and what states can do to knock them out. (See Robert Reich's post: https://robertreich.substack.com/p/how-to-get-rid-of-citizens-united). Thanks for turning on the light to expose the corruption!

I would like to hear more about the ways Progressive Christianity pushes back against Christian Nationalists, and promotes social justice movements in the face of today's truly difficult times. The work of Dr. Reverend William Barber is worth broadcasting. Pamela Blair

The anti-scicence views now on the CDC website and how stupidity and ignorance at the highest levels is preventing medical progress and will bring us back to the pre-antibiotic and pre-vaccine levels of disease.

This isn’t new but we really need term limits for the House, Senate and the Supreme Court. We need fresh ideas and not entrenched special interests. Going for broke, a ban on stock trading.

raojenkins's avatar

so that Popular Info has range of opinions on this -- term limits for elected officials send power to the staff. We have term limits: they're called elections. Campaign finance reform is the key, not kicking people out of office just as they've learned the ropes and the issues. And started to accumulate some power.

Thanks for this very important work. Would love to read an in depth account with real world examples of Citizens United corrupting our elections process.

I also would like to know if boycotts actually work, or how to make them effective. I’ve been boycotting Chick FIL A and Hobby Lobby since the insurance coverage Supreme Court lousy decisions, and now Amazon and Target (REALLY MISS IT!). Is there a way to make it effective?

Robert Spottswood, M.A.'s avatar

They work with wide organization and time. People need to see their common suffering and understand where it comes from.

Montgomery bus boycott took massive sacrifice, unity and years. The churches provided a regular, solid core of leadership.

I want to know what was found out about the South Carolina judge's house exploding, injuring her husband and son while she was out walking on the beach. I can find no information and she had recently made a ruling that went against the Trump administration.
