I also believe that Democrats need to stop couching their opposition to another regime change war with "Iran is bad, but..." rhetoric, in that it accepts hawkish Republicans' framing on the matter. The human toll should be more than enough, on top of the complete lack of a credible justification.
I don’t believe a lot if not most Americans are too concerned about the human toll as long as it doesn’t land at their door or in their wallet. Gas prices are a hot button, as are US military deaths & other issues felt by Americans. There is reporting that the WH is suppressing what is usually a public report on terrorism threats. And —
Oil today went briefly over $120/barrel--which can translate as between $5-6/gallon US retail. But the market closed lower, at $100/barrel.
Iran, meanwhile, continues to target tankers, refineries--and luxury UAE hotels; aiming to push up oil prices faster/further. And betting that if prices get high enough--and MAGA starts to scream loud enough about the hit to their pocketbooks, that Trump will TACO. It's unclear if or to what degree MAGA buys any/some/all of TrumpCo's seventeen mutually contradictory reasons for his Epstein-Iran war.
Meanwhile, Putin is ecstatic, as even $100/barrel is increasing his profits enormously, giving him more cash to buy nastier nasties with which to slaughter Ukrainian civilians. Which puts Donnie in a tough place, as a longer war will push oil prices even higher, pleasing his KGB masters; but hurting his party more severely at the polls this November.
