Excellent analysis of the DC situation. Just a shame 😔 they're being used as a pawn in the national game of chess for the reins of government. DC should be a state as well as Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 too 💙

Thank you for explaining the proposed changes in penalties for carjacking; first clarification I've read anywhere. As usual, Fox Talk controls the narrative.

Stay on em Judd and crew!!! The Walgreen's update is not only exciting but clear vindication of this most critical work that you guys do.

Of course DC should be self-governing. But just like with Jackson, Mississippi, we know who is standing on the wrong side of history.

So stay on them and we too will make our voices heard. To be informed is to be armed!!!

Biden and Democrats should NEVER accept Fox "News"/Republican framing on any issue, and that is exactly what he did here. It's a mistake, an unforced error, and may hurt him with the core of the Democratic Party. We'll see.

Fox NOT news should not be used in any capacity when talking of actual data. I watch way too much msnbc diverse commentators and that’s all they talk about. I’m not participating in that! Nicole was good Mon. but Joy kept showing fox shit like it’s legit.

Check out Keith Olberman's podcast He has been calling bullshit on Fox since the 90s. Nothing is more damaging to our national dialog than treating bullshit like it's legit. And that is the favorite sport of the corporate media.

Biden is walking a balance beam and unfortunately sometimes he bends to the right in order to gain more for the left down the road. He just did this with border security as well. I see him playing the long game here. But it sucks.

Ah, yes, the long game.

The long game that made Clinton work with Republicans to pass NAFTA and send our manufacturing base overseas.

The long game that made Clinton work with Republicans to deregulate Wall Street. Now we have Black Rock.

The long game that made Obama pass a Heritage Foundation approved, Big Pharma penned, profits first, healthcare plan that was absolutely unable to deal with COVID.

So, basically, the long game that gave us Trump.

It's not a good game, unless you are Clinton, Obama, or a Biden, in which case you get showered with millions of dollars in speaking fees and donations to vanity foundations from the grateful corporate interests.

Wow! Tesnim and Judd, thank you for your intensive research about the important and relevant laws involved in this contested new DC Criminal Code. I hope Joe Biden reads this article, and that the DOJ or whoever is advising Joe on this realize that they have more to learn, and that insufficient knowledge is damaging to all parties involved.

Just read a Jamie Dimon quote on Axios saying JPMorgan Chase loves Texas & Florida... what companies honestly boycott these suppressive states.. being less than a whole person (3/5ths?) is not what I will support but it feels like the large corporations all base in tax free? republican states. I know it's off topic from today's great article on DC .. again thank you for all your fearless work

Very thorough overview of exactly what is being proposed AND providing context and data to help your readers understand the context. In addition, you are once again impacting national perspective. CA's decision to not do business will hopefully be painful for Walgreens.

I would love to understand why Joe changed his mind and what's behind it. Why is progress towards humanity's evolution such a damn struggle? I was most inspired to comment though because of the results of yesterday's story on Walgreens! You guys are heroes!

Thanks,Judd. I admit I am a bit surprised by Biden’s reaction. Do you have any opinions as to why he is against the revisions?

Mansoor Adayfi described conditions at Guantanamo, which De Santis supervised, without intervening. As a JAG officer, DeSantis would have been, or should have been, aware that he was participating in torture, clear violations of internationsl law. According to Monsoor Adayfi:

They used to restrain us in that feeding chair. They tied our head, our shoulders, our wrists, our thighs and our legs. They put some kind of laxative in the feeding liquid. We were shitting ourselves all the time. Then we were moved to solitary confinement – really cold cells. It was live five times a day. It wasn’t feeding. It was just torture. Five times a day. You can’t possibly handle it. They just kept pouring the Ensure. In one week, they broke all the hunger strikers. And he [Ron DeSantis] was there. All of them were watching. They used to beat us. And if we screamed or were bleeding out of our nose and mouth, they were like, “Eat.” The only word they told us was “eat.” We were beaten all day long. Whatever they were doing – they just beat you. Pepper spray, beating, sleep deprivation. That continued for three months. And he [Ron DeSantis] was there. He was one of the people that supervised the torture, the abuses, the beatings.

My god! How shameful. I had no idea about desantis’ involvement at Guantanamo. Must b where he cut his teeth on cruelty. I don’t have words for how horrifying.

I support statehood for the District of Columbia, although denying those citizens the right to representation and self-governing is an egregious extension of denying or altering the ability of a citizen to vote.

But, I need to segue to a women's right to govern her own body. While I have read the articles, including those from Popular Information, that align anti-abortion advocates to funding from duplicitous corporations that outwardly embrace gender equality but donate heavily to Republicans voting against women; I have to doubt that this is as deep as it goes.

It seems to make sense large corporate donations are buying favor with those Republicans, and their own interest is their own lobbying efforts.

What or who is really behind denying women their reproductive choices?

Who stands to gain? Religious organizations? The Catholic Church?

We need to find the real owners of this issue, especially when a majority of Americans believe in a woman's right to govern her own body. You can do it, Judd.

I think there's a bigger factor at stake here! People are scared, both OF the police, and OF the soaring crime rate and rampant guns everywhere! Maybe carjacking isn't as "bad" as murder, but we citizens are getting afraid to go to the grocery store, theaters, downtown! I wouldn't drive into Philly anymore for fear of my life, let alone my car! This crisis of crime is scaring people from backing current mayors, and a threat to all of us any time we go out! Just like with Covid, we're now stuck in our homes for fear of being mugged, carjacked, killed! This has GOT TO STOP! If Joe seems to waffle on this, perhaps you haven't found the underlying reasons! Yeah, it may be political, but there's real terror among the public. And it's not just FOX carrying water for tighter gun control!!
