It is a monopoly. Uses employees like serfs and now we read this. How much money did Amazon make during the pandemic? How much more is Bezos worth since March 2020?
And he owns one of the primary print media, The Washington Post.
Wonder what their spin is on the lawsuit?
But. It sure is easy just to pick an order out of the mailbox or up on the front stoop. The laws of consumerism are at play here. The biggest question does John Q. Public care how smaller companies are treated? Amazon can drag this out for a long time.
“Fair Pricing Policy”? I love these oxymoronic tag lines; “Make America Great Again”?
And, like so many people who believe whatever they see in print, that it must be true or why would they say it? It’s past time we hold companies ( and politicians) accountable for their deliberately misleading and often downright lying words. This is NOT free speech. It is dangerous and harmful misinformation that is hurting people, and worse, our country.
Thank you, Judd! Will I ever be able to read about such dishonesty by those with great money and power that causes harm to other people either by "commision or omission" without having my heart hurt? I wonder about honest sellers who do not sell via Amazon. How can we skirt Amazon and learn who is honest (and not scamming us from China or who knows where)--what businesses we CAN trust? If we cannot stop Amazon, maybe honest businesses can develop a union where their membership fees would provide advertising. Thank you so much for all of this fully researched information--may it be picked up by many voices who can reach powers that be that can change such practices.
Jeff Bezos is bad? That's news to me...Kidding obviously. I will never use Amazon if I can help it. I reserve it strictly for emergencies when I've exhausted all other options. I will gladly pay more to not get something from Amazon. Everything they do is suspect.
I got dupped buy on Amazon. Best to look for better prices. The produce was $50 cheaper elsewhere. They get away with as much as they can before they get caught. We need more boundaries for companies as they are greed machines and don't stop until something pulls the plug.
My understanding is that Amazon doesn’t sell things for asset price but offers it at a price it decides appropriate for the person logged into the site.
As for their defense, they’re citing Robert Bork’s innovation that monopolies and the blocking of competition is fine if there’s no economic harm to consumers. That of course cannot be truly calculated. Too, that view of monopolies is shifting somewhat.

They're both a monopoly and a monopsony.

Good to know *someone* is pushing back against Amazon.
