Chip Roy: My first duty is to uphold the Constitution.

Also Chip Roy: Forget what I just said about upholding the Constitution.

If his ego could get out of the way long enough, someone should ask if he is interested in honoring any of the request the President made to fund border agents & judges; or any of the compromises the President agreed to in the potential Senate legislation. After all he is the guy who shouted loudly about the Congress not getting any thing done without mentioning he’s one of the obstructionists. They’re like the arsonist who set the fire, calls the fire dept & complains as he watches the destruction.

This isn’t theatre folks, these people are advocating for the overthrow of the US government. Just think for a minute what would happen to this country without a functioning government? Let that sink in. This isn’t crazy talk. We have arrived at a constitutional crisis and it’s creating unrest around the globe. More importantly, it’s encouraging bad actors to attack US interests worldwide to further destabilize our country.

It's just so awful that they are pushing this agenda while overtly refusing to address the issue properly and legally through legislation because they want to ensure that "Biden doesn't have a win". What a selfish, disgusting and dangerous group of people we have allowed to be in charge of our nation. It grieves me all the more that Biden has to deal with this while struggling with a highly volatile Middle East, a "do nothing" Congress focused on politics vs governance, and a re-election campaign. It's too much; just too damn much.

It's 2024, and we're back to the same disingenuous arguments as during the civil rights movement, that old reliable, "states' rights." The more things change . . . And yet this time, it seems scarier.

Thank you for this piece and all the digging into the truth. Please keep this work going . The political philosophy of these radical right wing provocation mongers may or may not be their true feelings but they have shown themselves to be willing to embrace so much anti democratic and anti American thinking that they must be called out and challenged each and every time they bloviate. The real issue for “representatives” is immigration overall. GOP obstruction for political gain is immoral and incredibly NOT Christianity on its face. Yet these blowhards profess that they want a Christian nation. No wonder so many Americans just see all of this as hypocrisy.

I assume this would mean doctor's and hospitals can continue to offer abortions and ignore the overthrow of Row v Wade. And states or cities could adopt meaningful gun regulations, or ban ownership altogether. Not a bad idea Rep. Roy - ignore the Supreme Court. You may have hit on something that will save thousands of lives.

Yes, their nullification reasoning is that if they don't like the law, it is not a law, just a recommendation.

Great comment and thought Mark. I am sure he (Roy) only wants to ignore the constitution when it suits his power hunger but would cry like child if a "True" constitution started impinging on his rights

Of course he would - they all would.

Thanks for the comment.

from Thomm Hartmann:

The transition from a governmental society to a feudal one is marked by the rapid accumulation of power and wealth in a few hands, with a corresponding reduction in the power and responsibilities of government. Once the rich and powerful gain control of the government, they turn it upon itself, usually first radically reducing their own taxes, while raising taxes on the middle class and poor. Says Bloch: “Nobles need not pay taille [taxes].”

Well the French got so fed up with their 'nobles', that it became heads off time. Then there was a lot of chaos until Emperor Napoleon provided new stability and attempted to conquer the remainder of Europe, which was thwarted after several years.

Let us hope history does not repeat in the same way.

What a mess the far right politicians are making of our severe immigration problems! The origin of this huge flood of immigrants from many Central American countries can be traced to the selfish greed and corruption of its past leaders. I remember the scathing response from Guatamala's President to Kamala Harris's first visit there to confront them. We have so many national leaders who will fight to the death for their misgotten wealth and freedom to abuse their populations in the process! Putin, Trump, Netanyahu, Orban, Erdogan, and many of the leaders in the hemisphere south of us.

For Chip Roy to lead the fight for the sadistic Governor Abbott is an appropriate target for investigation. I do hope that Judd Legum and team can wake up our corporations that support this unraveling of our Constitution, and create change in their financing.

Our rule of law and our Constitution seem to be slowly making some headway in the legal cases against Trump, so maybe there is hope.

Chip Roy is full of shit. He cannot disobey a Supreme Court order.

We passed a law in 1948 that says the federal government has the supreme right to control our borders and that overrides any laws of the states.

Look up Takahashi v. US Fish & Game (1948) and see the Federal law that these fools want to ignore.

To codify the previous post, here is the law;

"The Federal Government has broad constitutional powers in determining what aliens shall be admitted to the United States, the period they may remain, regulation of their conduct before naturalization, and the terms and conditions of their naturalization… Under the Constitution, the states are granted no such powers." — Takahashi v. Fish & Game Comm'n (1948)

As usual, Republicans try to rule, in the most bigoted, dishonorable, misogynist way, each for their own selfish ends, primarily for power and profit, to the detriment of exactly everything and everyone else. Chip Roy and his anti-history ilk literally spew rivers of testosterone-injected hate and moronic tribal grievance, and is itching for civil violence. He is calling for insurrection and the further destabilization of our country, all while global authoritarian wolves salivate.
