In addition to those incarcerated, there's also the matter of migrants detained in jails and other facilities. But yes, thanks for advocating on the behalf of these vulnerable people, Judd.

Penny, in much the same way that individual states determine whether their prison systems are run by for-profit corporations or state govt or a combination of the two, the plight of the homeless also depends largely on where you live. For example, prisons in TN are run by profit-making companies, while NY state manages its own prisons. Likewise, Nashville is notorious for a large homeless population (whose day to day welfare always seemed most greatly determined by churches and benevolent organizations), while NYC is housing homeless persons/families in hotels during the pandemic.

What’s happening with the homeless in your area/state specifically?

There is never a quick answer, but many crimes do not deserve the punishment inflicted. Our courts are closed, so some were let go. Yet many remain. A friend's son in for drug charges Ina state prison is scared he will catch it and due as little healthcare is provided to inmates.

As for the homeless here. Pretty much like before it happened. A little more spread out during free meals, but they still go where they go, out of police sight and many hang together.

God help them and us. We are at a crucial point in history.
