Zuckerberg is rapidly becoming the Fox News of the internet. Chief purveyor of lies, misinformation, and racism. If his board had an ounce of integrity they would force him to step down.
I wish websites would remove the "convenience" of being able to log into their sites by using your Facebook credentials. It's a subtle way of showing the "importance" of FB. Obviously this is a minor request, but every step away from FB is a good one.
P.S. Facebook should show you a list of all cross connected accounts somewhere in its settings, and should allow you to disconnect them if desired. I can't tell you how to find that place in the settings, because I wouldn't touch FB with a 20' pole!
I never cross link sites in that way. You are just granting both sites access to all the data they have on you. Also, for example, on Twitter, every account you grant access to can become a vector for someone to take over your account. For example, if you grant some program "X" permission to log you into Twitter & tweet on your behalf (like the official Twitter iPhone App, or a site that announces your new followers) Then that app/program/website/whatever has those permissions to act on your behalf. So, you've just made it easier for someone to compromise your entire life! And, do make sure you *trust* the app maker. Life is all about trust... and in the era of the Internet, last I checked, trust costs about $100.
Many news sites require FB credentials to post comments. I've complained, with no positive responses. I'd rather remain silent that participate in the destruction of the American political system engendered by an unregulated company that is begging for oversight, oversight that's way past due.
I have encountered this as well. And, if it's not FB, they want you to log in, with Google, or with Twitter, or with Quora.
And, FB keeps profiles on everyone it discovers through people's contacts (which they agree to give.) So, even those of us who don't use Facebook are cataloged & profiled (though, in slightly less detail.) It's a serious mess. People just click. They just click.
Facebook is not the only offender, but they are the most visible, & the *might* be the biggest.
As Deep Throat said, "follow the money" and Big Oil has tons of money. You can bet that Zuckerwanker was offered enough to buy a fourth super-yacht, this one an icebreaker yacht (google it), so he can escape to the north pole while the rest of us die.
Facebook has demonstrated its willingness to work outside the boundaries of law, ethics, and common decency; they even break their own purported "rules" without regard--any horse-crap explanation will do.
Facebook needs to be dismantled, restructured, social media needs independent, authoritative, & utterly-transparent oversight.
Prison sentences should be handed down.
The rage of The People is not something to scoff about; just look at the smoldering ashes where stood those who have incurred it.
When the world is right again, Facebook will not exist in its current form.
P.S. This is a great example why privatization of something that should be a PUBLIC ASSET (see any GOP pol's agenda.) is a very bad idea. Facebook has the unfettered power to remake the world in its image. In other words, Facebook is a huge threat to humanity. And, the people at the top of Facebook are not role models, unless you're really obsessed w/ pointless-greed, sickening-indifference, & the repeated guzzling of hot lard from a golden bucket. So, let's get to work.
Keep up this excellent Facebook investigatory work please, Judd. Your consistency and looking at various angles is what makes you such an effective reporter re: Facebook. Nice work on defunding worthless gladhander Matt Schlapp, too.
This “opinion” loophole will be used for all issues and FB will remain the Fox News purveyor of lies, misinformation, and racism that relies on spreading rumors and hate for profit.

Facebook partners with both Fox and (worse still) Breitbart, so you're onto something here.
I wonder what a board can do against a CEO that has a majority of voting rights?
Why is anyone who cares about the truth still using Facebook? They are a cancer and need to be eliminated

Thank you for good info I can share with others. I should have been more specific and stated that, like you, I don't use FB.

Targeted advertising is just targeted propaganda.
All excellent information!!! Thank you.
Again, Thank you for your terrific journalism.

Of course! Zuckerberg loves Zuckerberg more than trump loves trump. I didn’t think it possible but I was wrong about this, much to my chagrin.

I really need to subscribe to Emily's newsletter. I already follow her on Twitter and climate change is *the* central issue facing our world today.
How do we share this on SM?
