Employees holding their amoral employers feet to the fire? Shareholders taking the amoral corporate entity they invested in to task and demanding they actually support in fact, what they espouse in principal?

Good stuff. Let's see more of this encouraging behavior. Thanks Judd!

With virtually no moral compass when it comes to greasing politicians of all stripes, Microsoft and Google stand out as hypocrites.

These practices by some of the largest and (what’s called, haha) “most woke” companies in the world would be remarkable if the folks they’re donating all that money to at least had the respect to acknowledge it. They don’t and continue to treat these donors like Trump treats Cruz.

We almost HAVE to use Google & Microsoft (our employers too!) but I’m fed up with the 2 faced behavior. And this is the crux of it - a retail company becomes so big people have to use it, but nevermind their corporate responsibilities? I’m afraid it’s going to have be up to the employees & shareholders to helm a good deal of this storm from within, unless we can en mass walk away from both..and fat chance of that!

Still I’m ever grateful to Popular Information for staying abreast of this issue and the responses it generates.

$283,500 would be an unlikely coincidence, so this must be a cap. I googled and couldn’t find a quick answer. I doubt THAT is a coincidence.

I wondered and did same.

Another insightful report, thanks Judd!

Please keep writing these exposes of how corporations often donate quietly to politicians and causes that shock and dismay their customer base. Shining this spotlight creates positive change.

If you talk about "sin" as a politician, it should immediately disqualify you from running. I'm so sick of religion being injected into our politics. You can have your religion and base your personal decisions off of it, but our elected officials should not be doing this openly. Separation of church and state used to be a thing. Nowadays, every republican bases every move they make off the bible. It's sad and needs to end. Lake is an evil person hiding behind religion. She makes me sick.

Judd, thanks for tracking and reporting on this important issue. I suggest you also include discussions of other GOP policies the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) supports that big tech may deem important. I fully support safe, affordable access to abortion and reproductive rights, but it is not the only issue impacting these firms.

Excellent and timely observation. Thank you Susan.

Brilliant reporting, Judd. Hold these hypocrites accountable.

Glad *someone* is trying to hold Big Tech accountable for their political donations.

This is how EMPLOYEES fight back! Make big tech/corporations accountable for where their money goes. This excellent reporting holds companies accountable, feet to the fire. If corps are allowed to give billions to PACS at least their employees can strike back at the loathesome donations to GOP christo-nationalist groups trying to dominate what Americans can do. Keep up the good work, and I hope major newspapers/media get on these stories too! There's more than one way to fight corporate hypocrisy.

So, are there any search engines that I could switch to? This is a great example of the dangers of monopolies along with all the other things you point out, Judd.

Expand full comment

You can add “dangers of monopolies” to the long list of issues we currently face as a society. Monopolistic behavior is growing in corporate America with seemingly fewer checks in place.

I'd recommend Neeva (https://neeva.com/) here. It's ad free and private, which are two big differences than the others out there.

Just a wild idea - how about transparent technology companies QUIT donating to any candidate or Party or PAC. If capitalism is working for them, why do they need to hedge bets by buying politicians and undermining our democracy?

Linda, part of political contributions includes education of political staffs. Very few staffers have ever run a business. While I know it’s not a popular position, political contributions can have an upside.

Can you explain why both Microsoft and Google have donated the exact same amounts for 2022?

Expand full comment

Nothing so needs reforming as political contributions. Should be in top of lists. But isn't. Too many lined pockets

How do we ask Tulipshare, and other activist shareholders, to get Google shareholders to stop Google’s donations to abortion banners? Judd, have you asked Tulipshare if they have that in the works?
