My heart breaks for the women and men in these prisons, because that's what these DOJ facilities are: legal enclosures from which you may not leave and your movements are restricted. What crime have these people committed? Where is their due process? More importantly, where are their children? I read yesterday in a respectable news outlets that 100,000 children have been separated from their parents since Twump was re- elected and Stephen the Miller took over de- immigration procedures. I wonder if Stephen knows the pain that his own children will suffer because of his actions? Karma is a bitch and she does not let anyone escape her payback.

I get it that uneducated, sadistic, and desperate people are hired as guards in these facilities because...who else would work there? These systems are practically built with those horrible, damaged cretins in mind. To treat women like that is WRONG. And we will all pay, as I believe we are now, for the inhumane policies of the Twump administration.

If we let this continue after November, if we forgive those who do these crimes from the boss to the bottom, if we let this just go away without punishment: that is the bigger crime. Will we let their crimes go unpunished?

Clearly, this is now how we treat "the least of us." It's interesting, coming from an administration that believe it is God chosen. I actually have better words than "interesting," but I won't post them.

So true Nancy. From the teaching of the prophet Jesus Christ, a person is measured by how they treat the least of us (poor, crippled, hungry); how we give away our riches; how we ask for nothing in exchange. And of course, that the rich will not get into heaven unless, presumably, they follow those basic rules for living. I am an atheist but I know good and humane advice when I see it.

These deficiencies of immigration detention centers are features, not flaws. I'm not a Gavin Newsom guy, but it would be great if he would help amplify reports of these deplorable conditions, assuming he hasn't already.

Thanks for this report. Please, please let us know ASAP what’s being steps are being taken by CA DOJ, or anyone, to improve these detention conditions. What can we do?

I write my members of Congress weekly about this because my father fought fascism in WWII and I can’t live with myself unless I do everything I can think of to fight it here. These are concentration camps — here — in America.

Another way to fight this is to donate to Project Salt Box which keeps track of where these camps are being located. You use their location map to see if something is planned near you and protest:

Thanks, Lesley. I’ll check out Project Saltbox. Calling and writing electeds is important. I’m a California voter with progressive electeds but I’ll do it nonetheless

Lesley's avatar

I hear you, Jim. I’m in MA and know my MofC feel as I do, but maybe it helps them to prioritize…? Anyway, I also do it for myself. I’m committed to “everything, everywhere, all at once”. It can’t hurt.

Disgusting. How weak and inhumane is a democracy that allows this kind of criminal abuse to occur in such a rampant fashion. How can America any longer pretend to inspire admiration as any kind of beacon of freedom and light? Rise up and fix this or crawl away under a rock. This Canadian is deeply disappointed in my national neighbour’s hand-wringing and inaction. Surely you’re better than this.

Nancy's avatar

Of, ridiculously, how can it pretend to be a Christian nation, which is what the MAGAites claim! Be thankful you're seeing this from afar in a country that appears to still value norms and decency.

Trump and his people are trying to create an "xtian" nation in which they have "X"ed the attitudes, actions, teaching, and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth out of their ideas, ideals, and actions (...and yes I realize that "X" is an ancient symbol for Christ, but these people have screamed in protest when Christmas has been shortened to Xmas, claiming that those who do so are "X"ing Jesus out of Christmas and thereby refusing to accept that symbol.) They have cleared Jesus out of their "faith" completely and gone all the way back to the culture of revenge which existed before the Laws of Moses specified ONLY an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth (rather than genocide at the slightest provocation). They are NOT Christians, they are "xtians."

We aren't in a democracy anymore. People need to be able to be honest about that reality.

Matthew's avatar

Is that because most Americans are accepting of the disappearance of their democracy? Is it not worth resisting if democracy means something?

Lynn's avatar

I never said anything like that. But resistance will improve when people start recognizing we already aren't in a democracy anymore. As long as they falsely believe we are still in a functional democracy they will stay complacent and continue to do nothing much (average person that is)

The depths of their cruelty is the point. Plain and simple.

I can't wait until a Democratic president creates a reparations slush fund for these actual victims of our government. Of course, we all know I'll be waiting until my final breath.

Keep reporting despite most being tuned out. The war is now the talk of the times - ICE and Trump/Epstein forgotten. Such a sad yet predictable path for America to travel: conservatives along with ethno - religious and greedy business people have planned this for decades and it worked.

Rebecca & Noel, Great Reporting! Keep shining the light on this criminal activity by the most corrupt Administration in American history. 250 years -

We haven’t got it right yet.

All Men (Women and Others) are created equal…

I can't can't this is so barbaric I do not know who we are anymore when the majority in congress is fine with this.... they are cowards... they need to be exposed every day for their barbaric votes to let this happen...my Italian 80yo hippie grandma/nonna curse to them "may they have to survive in these prisons for 7 days" I'm being nice...which makes me want to vomit

Thank you for this unpleasant article. Love that you keep getting the information out.

And this is today's America. I'm not sure what else to say. I like the community of people (not bots) who think about and comment on posts by people who are committed to helping restore our Constitutional republic. However, it's how we're treating those we consider the least of us, and it is sickening. And these people claim they are blessed by Jesus and that God desperately wants the ballroom. It could be a farcical comedy routine, but it's real!

Larry Carr (autocarr)'s avatar

We have become truly disgusting society. And the treatment of immigrants by ICE and the indifference of government, the justice [the penal] department, and the courts is the equivalent of WAR crimes.

And their approach to apply more ICE on it…

Keep this reporting Judd. The detention camps are real and the atrocities happening there are real but until trumpers get their asses thrown into the camps we can expect nothing from the fake christians.

Mojave Rich's avatar

The State needs to step in. We knew this was happening in our State but now we REALLY know. We, the People of California, need to insist that the Governor and Assembly use force if necessary to liberate these concentration camps within our borders. Remember: “For evil men to triumph it is only necessary that good men should do nothing”.

I am sickened and heartsick by the treatment of the 'prisoners' . This current administration is composed of greedy, mean, heartless 'people' who all need to be jailed.
