"[a] boy can start the process of cutting his penis off right there in his high school on his lunch." This is as stupid as another favorite right-wing talking point: "post-birth abortion."

Almost all of the "Moms for Liberty" crowd exhibit the Dunning-Kruger Effect, get their

Haw about cutting off penis' start with circumcision at a few days old. Then come back and let us know how you're doing with that. They didn't approve, did they? No such thing as a post-birth abortion. If we want, an abortion is to stop. Abort a mission miscarriage is spontaneous abortion. And, Adam the name I see speaks of post birth as in; Every mass shooter know this. Thank you Adam.

More ignorance from the RW'z. To wit: "On August 15, Schenkoske promoted a post stating, “Diversity is segregation" and "Inclusion is exclusion."

Next Schenkoske will be telling us that "work is freedom" and we'll really know where we are now as a nation. Homeschooling indeed.

Why is it that every conservative know-it-all running these sessions has no experience in the field they are trying to influence? Kelly Schenkoske has zero qualifications and does not belong in this role. None of these "Mom's for Liberty" actually care about that anyways. They care about indoctrinating children into their religion. The one line about kids asking about LGBTQ and parents having to explain it causes them to 'freak out' we found the real issue here. It's not that the kids are uncomfortable or unable to be educated, it's the fact that their prude, religious parents don't want to have to talk about it. The right is full of evil people hiding behind their religion. Get religion out of public schools and government. We need more agnostics and atheists running things.

Don't paint all religions with the same brush. One of the best comprehensive sex education courses available for adolescents and young adults is called "Our Whole Lives," and originated from a coalition of (liberal) religious organizations.

Expand full comment

I was taught sex ed in the late 80's at my all boys Catholic HS by Brother Pat Conway. The dear Brother was a good man, but he had to riff pretty hard on this topic. By far the most awkward hour of my week, which at the time was a house of awkward horrors. It's an absurd situation to think about now, but it was just accepted then that boys should be given minimal information about sex, sexuality, anatomy, CONSENT (not discussed at all, btw), and everything that goes with the choices we make as sexual beings. It stunted me for a long time, and I relied on the women in my life and self-education to figure things out. I humbly advocate we not go back to this absurd model. Especially a sex ed model advocated by people who think teaching consent to boys is wrong and somehow confusing. Imagine having children who are sexually mature (and emotionally immature) not understanding the power and criticality of consent, or how their bodies actually work!

Expand full comment

During political conversations with my more conservative friends, I often state that sexual relations is a contract between two consenting adults. Both sides must be able to agree. A child cannot consent. An animal nor a toaster can consent. (Yea, people went there).

For those that vehemently disagreed, I would follow up asking if one adult is not consenting, isn't that rape? They would still say no because they believe sex is not a contract.

So, while this is just an anecdotal sampling, it does illustrate a couple things:

1) It is likely that there are too large of a number of men who do not believe that rape exists

2) Given the above, women absolutely need unencumbered control of their own bodies period.

A Catholic "brother" didn't think boys should learn about consent.

These fears mongers have a recipe for their toxic stew as they continue to weaken public institutions.

•Target a public entity or official;

•Select a topic that makes people uneasy to claim children are victimized;

•Dredge up a bucket of related dark fantasies;

•Add a dash or two of marginalized “others”;

•Conflate & change the the meaning of words;

•Mix, pour, add a sprinkle of loud alarming accusations

•Bake into the public discourse;

•Serve before it cools.

Schools are not teaching children to consent to sexual contact. No one in their right mind would argue against teaching about consent at the appropriate age unless they advocate submission. They know full well it has nothing to do with CRT, which the far right has redefined. It comes from the same swamp that launched a group which appropriated the name of an actual non-profit to pretend they were an anti-child trafficking organization. This is Pizzagate 2.0.

I don't understand why people who do not have children in their school district/state are allowed to attend school board meetings/run school protest groups. If Schenkoske homeschools her kids, she gets no say because her kids are not under the same guidelines. Same for people with kids in private school. Same with grandparents and 'concerned citizens'. Don't tell me "my taxes are used for it, so..." My taxes are used for road construction, I don't get a say on which roads are fixed first.

I'm on Next Door (I know ;) and someone posted the cell phone policy of the local high school. The overwhelming question was: well, what about it? Do you agree/disagree? Do you have kids in school? Seems like a fishing expedition fir something and no one was fooled, luckily.

First of, let's use the proper name. This group has always been and always will be "Moms for Fascism," wherein a few ignorant, moralistic snowflakes who absolutely love to melt down in unjustified outrage claim the right to control everyone else's children.

Just two additional points: 1) It is ALWAYS the parents, such as the woman described here, who will never talk to their kids about sex (because the whole subject is just too "yucky" to them), who don't want anyone else to educate their children about responsible, consensual sexual behavior either. THEIR kids are the ones most likely to have unwanted conceptions, quietly-accomplished abortions (to which those parents will claim complete opposition when other people are involved), and girls who suffer such pregnancies will be figuratively branded by that family system in the worst ways possible.

When this woman's children are a bit older, they will describe their mother as a loud, obnoxious ignorant fool, and will try to stay as far away from her as they can, even as she whines and moans about how "ungrateful" they are and why she never gets to see her grandchildren.

2) Children who are raised with as little knowledge of the biological results of puberty for their own bodies and the unfamiliar feelings of arousal that will naturally result, do not know how to take care of their own needs, and have no knowledge of consent (i.e. no knowledge that they have every right to so "no" to others, especially authority figures) are programmed to be easy targets for those seeking to have sexual contact with underage individuals. In fact, it is almost always the case that "experts" and authority figures who preach what this woman is preaching are often later found to be involved in age inappropriate relationships. themselves, all the while accusing others of being "groomers."

If you want your children to be healthy through their adolescence as puberty arrives and they grow to maturity, pay close attention to what people such as the woman preach, then do exactly the opposite.

Everything she's teaching and preaching will, if followed, have precisely the opposite effect to that she claims to be attempting to bring about.

Yes, Moms for Fascism is more appropriate. They are not satisfied to opt to take their children out of sex ed & limit the books their children read; they want to make the decisions for everyone because their agenda is large. Children are their props.

When people were expecting the first COVID vaccines for children door hangers appeared in some neighborhoods near where I live. They had photos of newborns and disinformation about the vaccines (for any age). There were (and are) no covid vaccines for newborns. A local reporter tracked down the source: the owner of a mentoring/tutoring center which also offers materials for “homeschooling.” No one in any capacity of the organization has one single education-related credential.

What they have is a an organization run by a “sovereign” which provides a family friendly cover to attract parents to use for her network; a contact list & meeting place to mobilize on issues and income to feed it. What they don’t have anymore is the veil of secrecy around that ‘cover’.

(I've lost my comment for maybe the 6th time--every time I go to look something up....) Here goes again: Does anyone else find conservative education Moms for Liberty activist Kelly Schenkoske BORING? I really feel for children who are home-schooled by such angry and unreflective parents like her.

Regarding the idea to tell the historical contributions of gay, bi, trans people, I think that probably many were "in the closet." Taking that idea to its limit, will people ever realize that proving what someone's past sexual proclivities may have been, that our sexuality should not be the defining factor of who we are?

Thinking of our past and maybe the only gay President, James Buchanan, was one of the very WORST presidents--his sexuality did not make him better or worse.

Here's an important counter-example: when a "baby" is born and has no brain, or some similar malformation, the doctor can assist in ending its nonviable life. The former governor of VA, Ralph Northam, MD did just that. And, I think it's a perfect example of why we should not have limits of weeks or months prior to abortion being legal. There was film of Northam with the mother of this whole process--unforgetable (and heart-breaking).

Here is [just looked it up] the explanation in Northam's words:

"There are -- you know when we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of, obviously, the mother, with the consent of the physicians, more than one physician by the way. And it's done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that's non-viable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."
