You forgot that they are installing appliances in the federal buildings where they are living (washing machines, dryers, etc.) Imagine the electric bills, not to mention the tariff-inflated prices of the appliances.
Does anyone understand that any and all savings that DOGE actually finds will be completely offset by the back pay and penalties that every single fired federal employee will be awarded when this reign of error is brought down?
#BenedictMusk is a threat to our national security, economy, & global alliances.
Manchurian candidates Russian agents historically shameful & depraved...The Kremlin patted Trump on the head for betraying our democratic ally & aligning the U.S. with dictators & kleptocrats. #VladsPoodle
Never a shortage of snake oil or cod liver oil for whatever ails you: Trump, Musk & MAGA, in their vision of gangster government & kleptocracy, believe that democracy is for sale & that they've bought control of the US government...that Trump, Musk & their MAGA oligarchs can act with impunity. Threats of retribution & prosecution for those who would uphold the rule of law are intended to silence opposition & compel obedience in advance.
Thanks for this Judd. I apologize for using this as a tine to ask for something else, but I was wondering yesterday how many employees are being fired and where from. I know the numbers go up and down because DOGE, et.al. fire and rehire and other chaotic things. I saw yesterday (perhaps here? with apologies to the source) that 60,000 have been terminated in the D.C. area in a period of time compared to same period in 2024 when 60 were fired or left. I think the human impact of these numbers on economies and communities both for using govt services and dealing with the numbers of families losing jobs is important to know. Even if it is for a historical record later on. Many thanks for what you are doing. It is vital work in real time and for the historical record. And my apologies, again, for asking for more.
When some of those terminations are deemed in court to be unlawful, the government will also have to shell out back pay and damages for wrongful termination. DOGE (Department of Government Erosion) is going to cost us more than anything saved.
These people are doing funny math and bad accounting. I would like to know if the obligated amount equals to what the contractual lease payments agreed with the landlords. On the other hand, Trump and Musk are great at stiffing payments and daring people to exhaust funds to pursue them legally. They ran lawless businesses and now a lawless government.
Exhausting... I read every one of his "savings" he really has it out for USAID & the FBI.. next seems climate change...and consumer protection agency... How you did this is unbelievable but thank you..
Thanks Judd — this is a great tool for attempting to provide some tiny slice of accountability, or at least visibility, to Musk’s ongoing toddler rampage through the federal government.
That having been said — I really I think the professional media (as differentiated from infotainment media like Fox News and most podcasts) need to go further than trying to find what few gotchas they can while Trump is destroying the government. The whole “Musk said he saved X, but it was really only Y” thing might feel like a win, but it still leaves them in control of the narrative.
The media need to be talking about what government does for people that they take for granted, that they will miss, and documenting what has now been taken from the American people, and not just reacting to their latest hourly provocation.
The whole point of the “flood the zone” strategy is that you can’t possibly react to all of it — which is why we need a completely different way of framing the conversation that cuts through the noise and doesn’t rely on people being willing to read 10,000 word deep dives (which is the Atlantic/New Yorker approach). Judd is doing more than most in the media of providing context and clarity, but there are still far too many people who have no idea what is being done to them by corrupt billionaires.
The budget/debt ceiling combo P&CIC T*ump wants in TRILLIONS makes any - any at all - "savings" of millions or billions abjectly irrelevant. I wish reporting on this would include that relationship; e.g., "The 29.9 billion in verified savings DOGE claims amounts to 0.7475% of the 4+ TRILLION the GOP puts forward in their budget blueprint."
(1). Who are DOGE? Names, faces, backgrounds, where are they, how are they able to just move in and take over (They certainly would not get away with this if they tried to do this in someones home in America, but now they are able to spy into every Americans home and their lives with NO permission having been given for them to do this. And am wondering when Americans will sue them each individually for accessing data they have no right to) .......... Why is no one tracking them personally? (2). And why oh why no DOGE reporting (or anyone else in CLEAR EASY TO UNDERSTAND picture of) on the "Waste, Fraud, and Abuse" of billionaire tax avoidance (Bezos 0 income taxes in 2007 & 2011, Musk 0 income taxes in 2018, etc.) and the cost to America and Americans??????? If the billionaire class paid what they owed a huge amount of "Waste, Fraud, and Abuse" would disappear. Gee, imagine that! It works for them to destroy agencies so they can move in and privatize the functions and pad their pockets with replacing the things they are destroying......... (A win/win for the billionaires and lose/lose for all the rest of us!)
This is great reporting. Its what journalists should be doing - watching the watchdogs. Thank you.
It also opens the possibility to drill down even deeper. Like, what are the productivity costs of doing all this with a chainsaw rather than a scalpel. Reorganizing the entire organizational chart of a $25 trillion organization is a massive project. Most multi-billion dollar companies look to make transitions over years, not days.
This is irresponsible trade policy, economic policy, as well as governance. The more numbers we have to show this the better - if only the decrepit Dem leadership would use it and encourage it!
Will you please track how much we the taxpayers are paying the employees of DOGE and how much DOGE is costing us — food, travel, laptops, etc?
DOGE is probably costing us more than it's saving...the firing of employees at the IRS and CFPB probably cost us billions!
You forgot that they are installing appliances in the federal buildings where they are living (washing machines, dryers, etc.) Imagine the electric bills, not to mention the tariff-inflated prices of the appliances.
Nice; a one page dashboard.
Does anyone understand that any and all savings that DOGE actually finds will be completely offset by the back pay and penalties that every single fired federal employee will be awarded when this reign of error is brought down?
"reign of error" wins the Internet for the day!

Dem admins created 98% of jobs since 1989 while GOP lost jobs & ballooned the deficit.

Thank you Judd. Only one thing to add:
I absolutely hate Elmo and would love to try out my new ass-kicking boots on his *ss!
Told everyone already, Trump and Musk are both liars...this just proves Musk is for sure. Also, new slogan: Dictators are idiots.
Make a t-shirt with "Dictators are Idiots" on the front and "Idjits are Diktaters" on the back.

Everything you mention is a description of how Donald has always done "business."

This is a great idea! It's how information about this ongoing coup should be shared.
