It’s all connected in the 21st century, isn’t it? The Venn diagram chart of the connections between Ellison taking Tik Tok, Elon taking Twitter, all the other consolidations of messaging in our culture and the moral and financial and governmental corruption to make American authoritarianism happen. The rest of us who have trusted that our democratic republic will move slowly but surely on an arc to justice, the 80 percent of the bell curve just chugging along trying to be fair and care for the world, have no say. Our founding fathers and the enlightenment were wrong - we apparently don’t have the way or the willingness to keep this democracy. I am a mentally healthy person and I can’t help but be overwhelmed by all this ugliness. I keep reminding myself that the only way out of all this crap is through and the only way through is together, but damn, I’m tired.

You said a mouthful and I am right there with you. I want to walk away from the news of the world and just live a quiet life on a country road which, at my age, I have earned. But I have always loved my country and defended it against those who would denigrate America (even when we deserved it) and I won't give up. We did some great things, as the people, to further the idea of democracy and equality in the past 75 years and now we watch it become undone. But I know and you know that even with the braindead amongst us, all humans want to be free. We are free and we take it for granted so it will be a long time before the boys wake up and say, wait a minute, what just happened, and fight back. We will be there - the older and wiser - to remind them of what they are fighting for.

But what about Hunter Biden’s laptop?

The hypocrisy of the Republicans is so disgusting that I can barely be civil anymore. The staggering corruption of all aspects of this Administration with no accountability from the majority Party speaks about their moral compass.

As long as money and celebrity remain abiding values ( neither of which is a value) the US will fail and fall. Religious pretext has haunted the social fabric of American in many communities. The only solution is education. Without a society that reads, reflects, talks, discusses, learns and remains curious about how and why we’re in this place now, and shares common values of honesty, truth, care for each other and the planet, I despair for our future.

"The only solution is education."

This explains why Republicans do everything they can to destroy all levels of education.

Yes…The connection between sustaining a successful democracy and a well supported and successful public school system is clear and undeniable. When the goal is gaining power and control by growing the number of low information voters, then the country ends up in its current state.

I like (read: hate) how Kushner's company got funding despite a lack of experience in the target industry and unreasonable fees. The Boy Wonder continues to fail upward.

We are f***ed. We really are. If young people watching/playing media games and engaged in social networks like Tiktok are being influenced in many ways including "through in-game content, including representations of women and minorities, political messaging, and cultural values.", how do we teach children so-called values? The internet's depiction of those things: women, minorities, politics and culture is already so man-heavy (coded by men) that the slope has been greased and we are sliding quickly down to what? How about metaphors like Handmaid's Tale as SCOTUS decisions? or Call of Duty as lifestyle?

And once again who are those who would destroy the fabric of American culture for PROFIT? Same faces, same players and their obscene wealth.

The Trump outrages are so numerous that the media can barely keep up. Everyone today is trying to make sense of the big military gathering and Trump’s speech. And the government shutdown.

This one—corruption by his son-in-law—just becomes a footnote.
