Somehow I feel this is just the tip of the iceberg. The next 4 years are going to leave average Americans in the dust if the Republicans have anything to say about it.

I'm glad CA has an existing law, and someone knows the problem. That behavior is all the more egregious because some of these landlords might be neighbors. Just the fact that they raised the prices in the first place shows what kind of people they are.

Fish rot from the head down they say. And we have a putrid one up top. This unconscionable grifting will continue and increase as "artificial constraints on business" are relaxed.

Thank you Judd and Noel.

This is the illness that this country suffers from which we may not be cured. During the era of WWII, had something like this happened, landlords would have been dropping their rent prices and no pet or children rules and filled up every available space. Retirees with empty rooms would have rented them out with hardly a thought. Greed is a mental illness only empathy for fellow humans will cure it.

Meanwhile, crime-obsessed mass media will focus on looters. Evidently, the issue isn't stealing; it's that the petty thieves aren't doing it at scale.

This is a local version of what the republicans are trying to do nationally - take advantage of victims, hold them hostage to get what they want. It is sick and hateful beyond words.

Unfortunately, paying $10K fine (if caught) will be seen as w business expense, not a deterrent.

C'mon, it's just "supply chain" issues, same as in 2022 and 2023. Sarcasm. This is a prime example of why we as a society can't just let capitalism go unfettered.

Thank you! The same sort of gouging also occurred after Katrina in New Orleans. What is wrong with the human animal?

What an embarassement those landlords are. I hope they stay empty and those needing homes move to other parts of Ca. To luve

What would we do without you PI? Another disgusting group of people exposed. I want to throw-up knowing they are homo sapiens like me... the "animal kingdom" is more "human" then we are.

We are perhaps the most intelligent species on the only living planet within 100 million light years. Our planet will not last forever, we know that. But we don't have the good sense not to screw it up before its time. We know that now. This kind of insanity, or fundamental stupidity, means that our 'advanced' species has failed. Greed is the hallmark of that failure. We LET Elon Musk exist. We can only blame ourselves and our inherent political stupidity.

AI is driving this shift to an extent. Per this DOJ lawsuit filed back in August: https://www.wired.com/story/realpage-antitrust-lawsuit/

Capitalism + AI = troubling stuff!

In Trump’s America, what could be wrong with worshipping at the altar of supply and demand? Especially when it comes to real estate?

In Trump’s America, what could be wrong with kicking folks when they are down? So much easier than engaging to solve problems.
