As the election heads into its final stretch, Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest operator of television stations in the United States, is amplifying Trump's misinformation about mail-in voting.
He's setting the stage for what will be a violent, turbulent post-election night period of time. His supporters will engage in voter intimidation and suppression before and on election day, and then after the election, the legal challenges will further undermine our democracy.............which has been his goal all along.
I think what Sinclair is doing is insidious. There's ample room for distrust of major media outlets based on the way they often "both sides" matters so as not to appear biased, a situation which lends itself to viewers putting more trust in local news outlets. When Sinclair is pulling the strings at so many affiliates, though, that trust is obviously misplaced.
Such is why I'm glad to have found newsletters and other sources like Popular Information. The only downside is having to manage all these subscriptions and news feeds, but it's a price I don't mind paying because of the quality of the reporting.
I used to live in Columbus, Ohio. The local ABC affiliate, WSYX, is owned by Sinclair. Their editorial content (often indistinguishable from news) was offensive even before Trump. I have lived in the DC area since 2006, when the local ABC affiliate was owned by Allbritton. When Allbritton sold WJLA to Sinclair, they sold out DC viewers, because anyone in the news industry knows who Sinclair is. Part of the problem is that Sinclair is willing to pay top dollar for new stations, and station sellers have no scruples about accepting Sinclair's money.
I refuse to watch any channel owned by Sinclair. Maybe their advertising revenues would decrease if they failed to attract enough eyeballs, and they wouldn't be able to afford their expansion practices. Or maybe the FCC should restrict their acquisitions to make sure viewers in small markets have access to objective news sources. Sinclair should not be permitted to own multiple stations in a single viewing area. Wishful thinking, I know. Just the name "Sinclair" is enough to make me cringe.
I've battled the tRump era fake news barking in my own mind for 4 years now. I've been banging on my table for 25 years about bias in the media, corporate control, the general rightward lurch in radio and TV -----> you know, Fuex News. Rock and hard place. Ultimately we need ethical journalists to do the constant, yeoman's work of exposing biased or explicitly false reporting in the greater media landscape, no matter the political persuasion. Thanks Judd!!
Just wait until the GOP fires up state assemblies to reject the popular vote, and send a slate of anus-red electors to the Electoral College, in spite of protests in the streets.
I’m in a Sinclair market but I refuse to watch. I guess they bought into this market because they felt this little mountain town was far too progressive. I watch for the weather but fact check even that. Hate it all so don’t watch. I’m thinking trump/barr will try their darndest to screw this election and throw it to SC and his new judge.

Undermining our democracy has been Putin’s goal all along.
And thanks to that insufferable, moronic boor in the White House, he has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.

Lynchburg is Falwell country, Liberty U is there and has always been a place of conservative people. WSET plays to the crowd.

There *will* be violence. Trump wants it, he’s pushing for it, he’s guaranteeing it.
