I don’t understand how any of the CRT laws are Constitutional. They’re expressly against freedom of speech and for discrimination based on ethnicity—it can’t be spoken about or taught its history. Talk about cancel culture!
After reading this article, very well done by the way. It seems that the State of North Dakota in whole needs to be put over a knee and given a real hard spanking. So, it seems that facts of real history are bad for white people who want to write their own history, now it can't even be debated in polite society. Facts will always be facts, no matter how much "white" paint you attempt to cover it with.
“Faced with these constraints, how can a teacher discuss slavery, the civil rights era, or the history of redlining? All of these topics are inextricably related to systemic racism in American society and its legal system.” -
Umm faced with these constraints, how can a teacher discuss the (amended) Constitution itself?
This is clearly a prior restraint on the free speech rights of teachers, and should be stricken down, though of course it will take time & $$ to do that. I’d honestly be surprised if another 28 states follow suit given the inherent stupidity of this legislation, and the excellent reporting Judd & Co have done - practically a legal brief. Thank you so much! - and big props on the complimentary coverage. Very well deserved!
Why not just call the people complaining about CRT what they actually are? Racists. I don't get why old white people have such a hard time acknowledging this country was built on racism. It's an indisputable fact. Teaching that to children won't ruin the world like the GOP seems to think it would. In practice, I think this would lead to more understanding of people who look different from you and less racism in the future. Not acknowledging previous mistakes means you are destined to repeat them. I thought this was a lesson everyone was taught as a child. I guess I was wrong...Great reporting Judd, keep up the excellent work!
You have to remember that racism has been the tool of the power hungry forever. I am in the middle of reading the book "Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson and highly recommend it. It lays it all out.
I actually liked “The Warmth of Other Suns” better. Wilkerson interviewed many people but featured 3 people who had lived in the Jim Crow Era. Their descriptions of life certainly were much more difficult than mine.
There is a saying that history is written by those who rule. I do believe that this is what all the politicizing is about concerning a proposition like critical race theory or CRT. CRT appears to be an attempt to explain the persistence of racial attitudes and inequality in the US. If you look at the history of the US, you see it is a Country full of prejudices of “the other”. Besides treating black people who had been slaves poorly, just look at how Native Americans were treated; or how about the Japanese Americans during WWII; or how about the attitudes that persist toward Jewish people? The prejudices are based on fear and a warped view of what it means to be a Christian. The cognitive dissonance can be deafening. It makes for crazy people who cannot see the humanity in other human beings and it is certainly missing in themselves.
New to Popular Information. Found it through a link provided by, and subscribed partially on the advice of, the writer of another letter I follow. If future work is of same quality as this, there will be no regrets I ponied up the plastic.
Congratulations on being featured in The Hill, Judd. Your examples of the parent complaints about 'CRT' are so sadly misinformed. How can teachers possibly teach history with these constraints?
so you're here to troll and make unfounded accusations? do you have a contribution to make other than to attack everyone with a viewpoint you can't understand? asking for a friend.
Serious question: Why do you subscribe to this newsletter if you're so poor? You comment several paragraphs on every article about how dumb the left is and how Judd shouldn't be focusing on what he's focusing on. Everyone is a product of their environment. It's not Judd's fault he went to a private school and shaming him for that accomplishes nothing. Then you say 'Reporting like Judd's is why there will be a red wave in 2022 that will devastate poor communities'? How do you come to that conclusion? Nobody wants to discuss CRT, Penny. I will give you that. It is a non-issue (even the GOP already admitted wasn't a problem, but made it into one anyways) however, if the GOP continues to bring it up and act like it's an issue, simply not talking about it isn't an option as much as you and I wish we could just stop talking about it all together. If every local government or school board has to hear from the parents about CRT, it's going to get discussed whether you like it or not.
It has nothing to do with thinking you cant read. You're obviously intelligent and very verbose. I asked because this is a paid subscription and you're the one pointing out how poor you are and how everyone here is an idiot and focusing on the wrong stuff. I got off facebook to get away from people like you and here you are trolling the comment section of a newsletter. Judd is reporting on this because it's happening across the country. I'm sorry if you don't like it, I don't either and we agree it's a non-issue. He writes about a lot of topics. If you emailed him and asked him to look into one of the many issues that you bring up in the comments, I'm sure he would do it. I sent him one email and he responded so he's not that hard to reach.
I doubt that since you've already sucked up enough propaganda to last a lifetime -- which in that case you may actually see the next RWNJ coup succeed by promoting the fascists that are ruining this country. If you're mad that you're still poor, you can ask the ghost of Reagan where all the money that was supposed to "trickle-down" went. Troll.
You're right about that, CRT IS a non-issue, but why do you come off as a GOPher if you're not one of those people? Very confusing. I support free speech and our constitution which (supposedly) guarantees our right to speak freely (some restrictions apply) and that should include our schools.
If I came on too strong earlier, I was not intending to be like that.
Penny, it appears that you didn't read one of Judd's recent newsletters that reveals the source of this CRT ploy to trash Democrats and elect Republicans. Here's an excerpt:
"What is West Nova News? And what does it have to do with Ian Prior, the former spokesperson for Attorney General Jeff Sessions? This is where things get interesting.
"West Nova News appears to be a standard local news website. It is not. Rather it is part of a massive network of websites linked to "conservative businessman Brian Timpone." There are more than 1300 sites currently in the network, including at least 28 that operate in Virginia."

The GOP just trying to erase our history and take us back to the days before women and people of color could vote...this is fine. *sips coffee*

One step closer to Soviet style Fascist society in USA ....

...believe me you won't find this depth of information and research anywhere else, but please, let me know if you do.
Racism is endemic in our culture and these so-called “laws” put forth by white Republican people prove it. It’s the New Jim Crow.
The C- Students are running the State. Pathetic! Can’t believe they get 2 Senators 🤦🏻♀️

It's clear our educational system(s) will never catch up to the rest of the world. Pew compiled this research in early 2017, before we'd ever heard of CRT, and only just after the election of DJT. Can you imagine what the results are now, after that AND Covid?? https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/02/15/u-s-students-internationally-math-science/ .
Another thought, looking at this stream of comments...don't feed the trolls.
Next stop...thought crime.

Yikes, Ms Adrian, pipe down already. Your prejudices (against men, expensive private schools, and intellectually sound argument itself) are showing.

Obviously you don’t know anyone who teaches in a school (or college in a red state) for CRT to be a “non-issue”
