What is the national strategy of the movement to resist fascism? How are we going to secure elections in the face of MAGA efforts to rig or cancel them? How are we going to stop Trump from selling government policy and contracts to billionaires who "donate" to his "library" or buy his crypto products? How are we going to have a Congress that enforces the budget that it passes? How is the anti-fascist movement going to put pressure on the Supreme Court to enforce limits on presidential powers? How are we going to stop a few tech monopolies from employing AI against the interests of the people?
Although there have been large-scale anti-Trump rallies, it's hard to see how gatherings in parks put pressure on Congress, the Supreme Court, big business, or the media.

Charlie, I’m with you on these questions. How much longer must we film people being terrorized by illegally released J6 Seditionists? Filming while young women are shoved to the ground by ice terrorists! One woman lifted from the back by the terrorists knee and thrown down on her tailbone! These women didn’t touch these monsters. But this is what happens when criminals are released from prison by another criminal. Our response has been shockingly anemic.
Time for them to face armed military. Certainly not EVERY member of military is a Fascist. This would not be a coup, but a call to live up to their pledges!
Shine a spotlight on the effort to sell off our public lands to developers, showing the wide variety of folks who support protecting our parks, forests, etc. and the corruption going on to sell them off.
Show how "moderate" Republicans like Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski actually embolden and aid the extremists in their party and really do support them regardless of what they say publicly.
Show all the ways the Trump Administration has violated the Constitution and what should have been done to stop him
Discuss how many Americans will end up losing health care due to Republicans' HR1 and what hospitals will now do (especially rural ones) to continue to serve all those that come to their facilities.
I'm interested to know more about the groups that are funding or otherwise compensating social media content creators/influencers to produce political content. We're seeing more and more cooperation between political campaigns or even whole countries and platforms like TikTok, and it's seemingly becoming a significant force in helping shape public opinion. It's a bipartisan issue, too.
In my opinion, corporatized media is a large part of the problem (right wing funders of people like Charles Kirk another part of the problem). As Judd advises, think of how the fingers of Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos, Ellison, even Tim Johnson (my fantasy is that Apple would have done better), the Google guys are pulling strings for the regime while poking at our heads. The answer is to develop your own channel of trusted advisers: Here are some of the highlights on my list: Judd Legum, Hamilton Nolan, Sherrilyn Ifill, Sarah Kendzior, Timothy Snyder, Gil Duran and try to ignore the noise (and the NYT, the WaPo and all tv news).
Mona, Substack is a very good source for news. All media conglomerates in the US are owned by the far right. And it is happening on a global scale. We should bring down right-wing media, then the illegitimate seditionist orange felon regime.

Yup, well--maybe not far right quite yet, but by capitalist forces who care more about bottomlines and power than values. Boycotts work. But, how do we move forward with equally hard-hitting ways to fight the war on arts and sciences, the mass firing of federal workers, especiially those at the heart of the DC workforce; to respond to the corruption of the justice department: and, too, wouldn't it be nice if we could convince those not at the very core heart of maga (poor, lost moon rakers) that it's worthwhile to tune in and rebuild a common understanding of truth; made almost impossible by the decades-long attack on our common understanding of truth by people like Roger Ailes..

this. Yes. I posted on the Democrats' execrably bad social media channels that I'd donate $100 if anyone from Dems responded to my comment.
The national Dems treat their social media presence as brochure sites to push out "content" to their "supporters." Zero engagement. A not insignificant contributor to the Dems losing. And losing. And losing.
Tnx Roa. I wish others could see my email stream to the DNC about my idea involving Jess Piper Substack author a k a “Democratic Queen of the rural Midwest” and recommending that Martin hire her to progress that regional voter segment. I have Robt Duff, CT Senate majority leader involved and forwarded the stream to many alleged Demo “leaders”. Others suggest I let this go but I’m on a mission now. The two biggest issues are global warming and inequality/wealth concentration. Honesty can't walk away from that. People understand both.
Being real, that would require more taxation on the rich and their corporations. Talk about historical levels and how far we've fallen. Talk about 'who' built and builds America: working folks, that have been cheated out of their fair share for hundreds of years. Capital is king, not labor; so, if you don't have big money to invest, you're just a modern sharecropper.
Maybe even talk about good, clean, safe affordable housing coming from the government and about how the greed of the private sector (hedge funds, private equity, banks getting into more ownership of housing/America) does not care about your rent. Much of Europe has people living in apartments; apartments that they can buy. Good, safe, clean housing with green space. Not a house, but a home. Simplify desire and resources needed to live well. Live together. Help each other.
Climate change has mountains of evidence, including we all live somewhere that's changing due to this. Trump is one of the few actual deniers of this catastrophe. That is villainous. Crimes against humanity and holy creation. Let's stand up for both, brothers and sisters.
YES we should all be very loud about the world-destroying wealth concentration and increasing wealth inequality. It's not "income inequality," it's wealth inequality, because wealth is not tied to work anymore. As long as wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few who profit off the status quo, there will be no progress on addressing climate change because addressing climate change does not benefit the powerful few.

Why is the American public so resistant to walking away from social media?
We're literally funding the billionaires who divide us, while providing them with the financial means to destroy our freedoms.
Is using email vs FB to transmit family photos so unthinkable that continuing to enrich Zuckerberg is worth the damage he's wrought?
Is FOMO of Twitter worth the millions who will die in Africa from DOGE cuts?
Is supporting ChatGPT worth divulging the last vestiges of data privacy, that even now are weaponized against us?
Whether Americans are willfully ignorant of the dangers ahead or "amusing themselves to death" instead of organizing to fight fascism, there's almost no time left to take a stand.
When I was addicted to cigarettes, thinking about quitting made me crazy. When I was addicted to alcohol I wouldn't watch commercials about getting sober. When I was addicted to Facebook, I thought if I left I would miss out: FOMO
I no longer smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or go onto any social media. They are all addictions and the brain panics at the thought of doing without. It takes fortitude and a belief that you won't get fat by not smoking, you won't be the wallflower at the party without alcohol and that you won't ever have a great weekend if no one sees the fake smiles. Also, the physical part of quitting is really difficult.
Our children were handed iphones and social media 20 years ago, creating a nation of addicts, so enmeshed in the tech bros algorithms they cannot walk away. They cannot imagine a world without social media and yet social media, like cigarettes and alcohol abuse, is killing them.

I'd like to know if the public could sue the Congress for not upholding the allocation of monies already assigned? It's clear that those monies are being redirected to 'pet projects' such as ICE, a ballroom, and a rose garden cafe for the elite", to mention just a few. Is there any legal recourse "we, the people" have to make those monies be spent on that which they have already been designated? (aside from electing a new Congress to change course)
I’m interested in all of the above topics but would really like to know, since tRUMP seems to be declining in health, how bad will it be under Vance as President?
What are the chances to revoke the TelCo act of 1996? How will revocation change our economy and society. I echo the things said upthread about sales of public lands and how that will impact our lives and economy. I'd love to see a collaboration between you and Matt Stoller talking about the problems of corporate concentration and the quickest way to break apart the monopolies that are destroying our country. What would the economy look like if the concentrated power was diffused? What actions of companies and government are presently illegal under the Sherman Anti-trust and Robinson-Patman Acts? How can we encourage enforcement?
We are getting plundered by the electricity industry in the Northeast, and probably elsewhere. Example: In Maine, Central Maine Power is asking for another rate hike after dodging a referendum last year for the state to create a government-run utility. In 2022, Avangrid, CMP's parent company, reported profit of $881 million. This was 25% more profit than it made in 2021. In its shareholder report, Avangrid attributed the good financial performance to “the execution of rate plans in New York and Maine.” Our electricity bills have skyrocketed, and the Maine Public Utilities Commission continually defers to the utilities' requests for increases that do little more than funnel more money out of the woods and into the bank accounts of wealthy shareholders in Spain. The Democratic governor has by and large gone along with whatever the electric industry wants, including its projects to cut - unnecessarily except for monetary gain - large swaths of forest, farmland, and ecologically delicate terrain. Trump and the corruption surrounding him is a big problem. But so is a $500 electric bill for people trying to live on $1500, or less, a month.
This, plus how AI data farms run by big tech are quietly socialising the cost of electricity while hoarding the profits. How is this allowed to happen? Also, the "inevitability" of AI in general--we the people (broadly speaking) didn't ask for this but it's being forced down our throats without regard to environmental or human rights concerns. Companies big and small are jumping onboard because they fear being "left behind". The greater fear should be the pollution and resource use of these vast data farms and the fact that many are being built in drought-prone places; and, the treating of human beings as "cost-saving opportunities" (aka mass layoffs) as more AI adoption takes place. In a lot of places--nonprofit world especially--this will lead to fewer but more overworked/stressed out humans, and it's not like they are paid well in the first place.
Money and criminal activity. Follow them both and you will likely need additional staff. Lay the Trump administration bare and the nation will thank you.
Thank you for your reporting and investigations into the Evil tRUMP Nazi Regime. Keep it up. One Main Topic i think that should continue to be focused on: the GOP / tRUMP plan to allow or directly cause many Americans to die from many causes - such as viruses, preventable diseases, polluition, lack of oversight of companies such as airlines, car manufacturers, trucking companies, lack of oversight on food companies, from Climate Change disasters (fires, floods, heat waves, etc), from lack of medical care, from starvation due to cancelling food welfare programs, from lack of education due to gutting the Dept of Education & Brainwashing by Fake Christian "religious" groups. tRUMP, the GOP & their Billionaire Puppetmasters are literally implementing a program - their Project 2025 - to kill off as many non-Rich, non White, non Christian, non-straight people as possible, so that the Evil Greedy Fascist Billionaires amass more wealth, resources and power and the opposition is wiped out. I know it sounds like a Conspiracy Theory - But look at the Big Picture of what they are doing. We need a full scale Revolution against the Billionaires, or they will destroy us and the planet.
What is the national strategy of the movement to resist fascism? How are we going to secure elections in the face of MAGA efforts to rig or cancel them?
