Excellent and succinct piece.

The outlined response is normal posturing by the R’s. If Biden is kicked off the ballot, a court will put him back on. The posturing is for an audience of one.

While I 100 percent agree with what you wrote, some of it is beside the point. The courts are slow. Republicans have refused to obey court decisions on gerrymandering; Abbott on the wire/fence in the Rio Grande, and some of the illegal things governors are doing - like trafficking migrants - aren’t even contested. I can see Republicans removing Biden and having it snowball into something big before the courts get to handle it. And that has been the Republican strategy for the past 30 plus years.

It seems like this is the sort of case where they have to respond quickly. However, the state courts decide, we will probably have a Supreme Court decision before the general election.

It might be a good thing to have the arguments that they are making actually examined in a court of law. I do not think the governments will come out on top. It is still disturbing to share a country with so many evil, corrupt, idiots.

Media are complicit in R insurrection at this point, IMO. Key linchpin in an authoritarian takeover. We must vote blue, and drive everyone we know to the polls!

I have stopped watching MTP, and other Sunday am political shows. They have become amplifiers for the talking points of those politicos shouting the loudest. Guests do not answer questions, and often even the questions moderators ask skirt reality.

Pundit based "news" is not journalism or news which is why I have all together stopped watching all cable and network news.

The 24/7 news cycle only waters down real information and commoditizes it.

Stefanik and the rest of the republicans must be stopped from using the J6 Hostage label to try to normalize the insurrection and those legally tried and convicted.

I totally agree, and see the USA mainstream press as sending us down a fascist rabbit hole. They are complicit in destroying our democracy and play an important role, as Oligarchs like Musk, Bezos and Murdoch buy them up. The NYT and WaPo have made themselves irrelevant to me by allowing their oligarchic ownership to rule the day. Right now I am skimming these papers online, which goes really fast, and find myself using independent press, foreign press and Substacks to really get the news and intelligent discussion of the issues. Thank you ProPublica! Since I complained to the Times about one of their Biden polls and instead of printing it the guy wrote me back and tried to justify his data, when my biggest complaint was that newspapers should not be doing polls that they report on because that is them making the news, not reporting on it. I also don't feel that they are hiring people who have a range of insights, or not enough. They have so many right wing clowns doing their editorial reporting, as does WaPo that I cannot read them. I am starting to put them into the Fox News category of total horsemanure. We are harmed by not having a different way of owning our media. In Germany most people still trust the nightly news. Here we just get Biden is old, and the press repeats any Trump and Republican Party talking points without insight. Okay, report it like this is what they are saying, not this are the legitimate talking points. Here are some German speaking people doing an analysis comparing German, Austrian and American news on some points. You can see even here that they are critical of Biden. https://www.technicianonline.com/opinion/opinion-news-media-in-germany-the-us-and-austria-is-language-the-only-difference/article_f93d0af2-9384-11ee-b3f5-9b76819bc377.html

I agree with their recommendation to get different sources. I am grateful to and support the Guardian, as well as other free press like German language and foreign press of other countries published in English, like Al Jazeera, Chanel 24 France, and BBC. I also read The Times of India, and other press that allow free access on certain topics.

Here is an American expat talking about the differences in USA and German media.

American does have immigration issues that need resolution, but Republicans have been “bad faith” negotiators, in effect, not interested in negotiation as much as massaging the fears of “hoards of immigrants coming into the U.S. who are Black or Brown or rapists,” for political power, exacerbating racism and other prejudices of their White, America First xenophobic base!

We have a racist xenophobic problem in the U.S., which is every bit the equal of our immigration issues, and those manipulating that problem are trying to leverage the worst elements of our culture against the best, including recognizing our need for immigration given our economic growth issues, and support for political asylum refugees!

Precisely. Always shifting the narrative back too the pointing of fingers to conceal the fact that they would rather have a cudgel than a solution and their adherents are too damn stupid (or compromised) to notice or be able to extricate themselves.

If media would inform our citizenry that [quoting PI} "All of these officials (Ashcroft, DeSantis, and Patrick) have their facts wrong. Customs and Border Protectionl has reported 8 million encounters with migrants since Biden took office (millions were immediately expelled). ... Most undocumented migrants who are currently inside the United States are here legally." So, calling on all media from all political orientations to present these facts presented here by Judd. Otherwise, we continue going into Crazyland with the Q weirdos.

That would help but alas, our "news services" like things just as they are.

This is what happens when dishonorable, fact shuffling, power-mad, lying, intellectual midgets obtain or try to obtain power. These vile excuses for humans, these Republicans, have truly lost their minds and are doubling down on the destruction of our democracy. They only adhere to one section of the Constitution, guns.

I am absolutely EXHAUSTED by the childishness of the current Republican party. No, wait, that's an insult to ill-behaved children...they at least are too young for their brains to have fully formed. This vengeful, whining, belligerent, ignorant wasting of time needs its own adjective. Perhaps "MAGAness"?

Doesn't matter to the GOP that Trump says from the campaign trail he will be a dictator, punish his enemies, round up and place Latinos in tent camps, and/or suspend the Constitution. It appears to be ok with MSM as well. Over the weekend Trump decided to teach Civil War history and slam dunk Abe Lincoln. Jan. 6 has never ended. How he is not in jail?

Good report. Since Trump came on the scene in 2015, facts haven't mattered much to the GOP and sadly, the MSM.

I supported DHS for two months at one of the 'Trump Tent Camps' for those captured at the Border. You are correct. Those men, women, and children were processed (names collected, fingerprinted, etc.). They then spent the night and were taken back on buses to Mexico the following day. None of them were allowed to stay. No free ticket to the USA.

Regarding the ability to democratically elect our leaders, I would also argue that the Electoral College stands in the way of that process. The candidate who receives the most votes is not always the candidate that wins.
