Let’s face it, Fox News is this century’s KKK. The term “BLM” is this century’s equivalent to the N-word. It was organized lawsuits by the SPLC against the KKK that broke the organizations back financially. That is the only way to stop the lying and hate mongering by Fox. We have a good start with the Dominion lawsuit now we need everyone that has been harmed by Fox to file similar suits (and lawyers willing to take on Fox). The only thing that will stop Murdoch is to break his wallet.

How and who can hold the "news" organizations accountable for continuously spreading this misinformation? Fox is already in the midst of a lawsuit that doesn't seem to slow them down. What's it going to take?

Right-wing news outlets and pundits tried to blame the 2007/2008 financial crisis on affordable housing and fair lending regulations, with particular vitriol saved for Barney Frank. It is the same old tired trope they trot out to shift blame.

Funny how old names keep bubbling up to the surface. Now Barney Frank is in the news for being on the board of Signature Bank.

God forbid any Republican right wingers would take responsibility for any chaos they cause. The blame game is their cover. Eastman was part of Jan. 6th conspiracy and yet he walks free just like most of the organizers. Here they sit blaming "woke" when Trump roll backs here and I

in train brakes have caused 2 major disasters in so many months.

Just the mention of the great cash grab PPP money and banking sets my teeth on edge. Propublica has a great website based on public information done by zipcode so you can see who got that money in your area and how 90% has been forgiven. It will tick you off.

Trump was a grifter president. No such thing as a free lunch. We continue to pay for it while Fox lies to the MAGA/DeSantis crowd. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain," He is Rupert Murdoch no wizard, but certainly chaos king of misinformation.

Thank you for the link to Robert Reich’s posting.

So, Fox and its execrable talking heads are spewing more lies and disinformation. As usual, they will face zero consequences for their odiousness because almost no one who watches the network will ever hear about this, and the few that do will just screech "fake news" and ignore it.

Not only do I agree with your post, I was compelled to like it for the deployment of execrable. *chef's kiss* Magnifique!

Night after night, Watters (and his smirking countenance), Carlson (and his faux outrage), et al continue to spew their garbage with no consequences or pushback. They have a wide-ranging Kool Aid dispensary and any fact checking or criticism gets met with derision, mockery, doxxing, job losses, threats of violence, etc. (look what DeSantis’ machine did to that Axios reporter). Thank you for continuing to fight back in this dangerous environment, especially on the Twitter minefield with its psycho owner.

An important point here is that they don't even bother trying to explain how these donations contributed to the bank's collapse. Assume for a moment that SVB did contribute money to BLM organizations (they didn't, but play along...), would those contributions have contributed in any material way to the bank's poor investments in interest-rate sensitive investments? They would not, but the goal is not any sort of logical consistency. It is to paint the bank as woke for political purposes.

This ⬆️

Not one of their breathless mentions of woke, BLM, or any other right-wing bogeyman term, has explained how any of those items directed bank management to go long on Treasuries and assume interest rates wouldn't rise again for most of the next decade. It beggars belief.

"Black Lives Matter", "woke". From a MAGA and "alternative facts" perspective, these titles are interchangeable. Anything related to improving the lives of anyone other than heterosexual cisgender men with European ancestry is bad for the country.

What MAGA people don't understand or don't care to understand is that it these historical prejudices is what led to maligned people organizing themselves in the first place.

Current demographic trends show that our minority population growth is outpacing majority growth. It is a good business practice to help uplift minority populations so as to create more customers and to increase the potential employee pool.

Do you ever feel like we are drowning in right wing rhetoric or outright lies? And once those lies are out there they are codified in the MAGA minds, never to be corrected by facts. And they use them as justification to support the lying entities again and again. And articles like this one only reaches the people who already make a point of fact finding what they hear in the news and on Twitter. Today is cold and gloomy in my neck of the woods and between this substack HCR's daily mail I am just fed up and think I will go back to bed. I am not a Polyanna but I feel like the corruption of our leadership and media and corporate greed is just too daunting today.

Rebecca, Tesnim and Judd, this is just the excellent, follow the money, reporting I have grown to expect from this newsletter. You are exceptional at uncovering and disseminating the truth. Thank you for your good work and please keep it up.

By all accounts SVB failed not because it made bad investments in or donated excessive money to BLM or BLM-related programs but because it bought too many US treasury bills and had to sell them at a loss when interest rates rose.

I fail to see how buying treasury bills is a “woke” agenda.

But I guess deflection from the failure of Trump’s deregulation is the point here, not any sort of honest critique of SVB.

It’s not a lie if you repeat it enough...

A lie is a lie no matter how much it is repeated. Fox News viewers believe this shit because it justifies their distorted world view. They live blissfully within their Fox News bubble. But it is still all a lie and the question I can’t get away from is how the fuck do they get away with it year after year.

Thank you for pointing out the lies being told in an effort to cover up blame for this bank failure. Peter Theil started the run on this bank and encouraged others to follow suit. We know Theil is a supporter of anti democracy causes. He will do anything he can to damage our country.

Yes. Why did Theil do that do you think?

Wait, Fictional Notice Corporation anchors lied and repeatedly broadcast glaringly inaccurate claims? You're saying they cited "research" pushed by a right-wing think tank led by an avowed insurrectionist?! No way! That network is cancerous and their shameless campaign of lying and misinformation is poisoning the minds of a significant portion of our nation.

Thanks to Judd, and the whole Popular Information team, for bringing to light the real reason SVB, Signature and Silvergate banks failed: lobby-weakened regulation and poor management.

I would say that the monies that SVB bank donated to BLM went to repugnants and dumpster and it's far easier to deflect the misinformation than for them to tell the truth !! It really pisses me off that the CEO'S and big wigs can get their money first including bonuses !! When will they be held accountable, when will their monies get frozen and why do they get to make all the rules and regulations ( or lack ) . The small start-up businesses and individuals are the ones getting royally screwed along with the taxpayers just like the covid relief bills that should have gone to help small businesses to stay open but went to star athletes and congress persons !! I hope President Biden holds them to account !!
