When they say "Make America Great Again," this is what they mean. They want to take us back to a time before members of various minority groups had equal rights at least codified. That they're so open about it is what's especially unnerving.

RFK Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Again" seems to involve doing things that will kill off sick and disabled people, leaving behind the rest who presumably will now be healthy, achieving his goal.

Trump is the one enabling this. He openly picks weak people to do his bidding and they put the responsibility off their own shoulders and onto him, enabling them to do and say heinous things. It's no accident that we have those DHS ads by Christy Noem saying how delighted she is that Trump is taking care of the country. It's a way of shifting any blame, guilt, or responsibility to a higher authority and that's why she has her job.

Christian Nationalists like Hegseth want a shit ton more than the "good old days." They want an Iranian-style Theocracy, where mullahs like them get to boss around everyone; take away women's right to vote; oppress minorities and gays; reinstitute some form of slavery; and criminalize any behavior they decide isn't sufficiently Christian.

They claim to be "Godly," but are actually total hypocrites. Who beat up and cheat on their wives during the week. Then performatively cry in church on Sundays for forgiveness.

They're roughly 20% of the US population, and are free to live as they want. Which would be perfectly Ok if they didn't also want to force the rest of us to adopt their Sharia lifestyle.

Congratulations on breaking news that the NYT picked up, Judd. Unreal that is 2025 Hegseth and his pastor are advocating for the disenfranchisement of women. Hey, women! Vote for Dems!

Including the wives of Republican Congressmen and those on the Supreme Court. Some are active like Alito's and Thomas' servant wives and others are just weak. It takes a real WOMAN to stand up to these Christian men.

I think men shouldn't have the right to vote. However, as an alternative I would support them passing a course in American history, feminist view, and a course on the Bill of Rights and background on the Constitution. It is well established that when women have the money in the family they use it to support their family and help their children, if they have any, to have a better life. Too many men would instead use any bounties to increase their own power and prestige. Those with bad habits would indulge, leaving their wife and any children to fend for themselves. It is unusual for women to behave in this way and usually women who do have been abused in the past.

Exactly this, Therese, thank you! Years ago I was in a women's business owners group, and we made loans to women in African and South American countries. We gave the money to the women instead of the men, because the men just sat around smoking all day and the women were the ones running the communities.

Compromise: all white guys over 50 lose the right to vote. As an old white guy, I'd lose my voting rights, but it would be worth it.

Even in jest, the right to vote should not be seen as a bargaining chip. It’s a human right. Especially in a society where leadership is not benign.

An old friend, decades ago, said that if women ran the world there would be no wars. Lots of bitching, but no wars. (Of course, that would mean excluding people like Maggie Thatcher, who was (in Jonathan Swift's phrase) a female man.)

How is it possible that women belong to this “church” and listen to this crap every week? The men attracted to it must be either terribly insecure and/or with serious personality disorders. Clearly Hegseth meets that definition. When I think that Hegseth was happily confirmed by the GOP I want to start screaming. But then again, lots about this Administration makes me want to scream. Remember…VOTE BLUE or who knows what will happen!

The women have, from a very young age, been beaten down so badly. They're not good enough, not pretty enough, they're stupid, even if they get straight As, they smell, their hair is never done right, not washed, why do they wear so much makeup, why are they wearing makeup, their bedroom is a mess, the house is a mess, they can't cook, my God. It's not just men that are cruel, little girls and women can be very cruel, too. This is every day life. Can you imagine being in that church and hearing this crap from your husband? I have a friend who was in a very abusive marriage. He treated her like this, treated their son like this, I'm amazed she escaped with any dignity at all. She didn't grow up like this, though. Her family was amazing! Can you imagine being in a marriage, in a church, where all the women are treated like this? Not only that, they like it? They expect it, and treat their own daughters like this? Lord, it makes my stomach turn.

Bravo! Great story! And while we are discussing the abuse of women and the waste of taxpayer dollars, what about the destruction of a warehouse full of birth control products to be destroyed on the whimsical command of Mr. Trump? Those were bound for countries sorely in need. Mr. Kegsbreath obviously belongs to the wrong religion. It is Priapus he worships.

Whoops, I got the wrong guy! The Pope should definitely excommunicate JD Vance for spewing hate and heresy.

Hegseth is pathetic. Early on, he had his “Mommy” (wife) with him all the time because he’s so pathetically weak. And this statement: “Wilson supports recriminalizing homosexuality” won’t fly with JD Vance’s groomer, Peter Thiel.

At what point does he go so far over the line that the military goes to Trump and tells him that either Hegseth is fired, or they will remove Trump himself from office? I know, radical and unAmerican, but he can't have fired all of the senior officers with integrity who must be more than fed up with this drunken embarrassment.

Did anyone else find these comments about Pete Hegseth as hilarious? Pete Hegseth, the falling down drunk alcoholic rightfully accused of sexual assault and rape, all while drunk of course! That anyone would ever take the opinions or even the thoughts of such an ignoramus seriously is cause for all without the ability to see the absurdity of the beliefs of Hegseth, and those of an old sleepy (or at at least he looks half dead) Pastor Wilson unearthed from the Salem Witch Trial morality!?

Wow, you got two out of three -- he's always been extremely misogynistic even by Christian fundie/evangelical supporters, and he's defended at least two men who groomed young woman and performed a marriage for a serial child molester -- a marriage that has resulted in children. https://bredenhof.ca/2023/07/10/doug-wilson-the-ugly/
