Last week, President Donald Trump declared that the federal government cannot afford to spend “any money for day care” because “we’re fighting wars.” According to Trump, the well-being of America’s children is not a concern of the administration.
In 1982, I had a small mimeographed poster that I taped onto the front of my school 3 ring binder that read: It will great day when education gets all the money it needs and the military has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber. What has changed in 44 years? Apparently nothing, absolutely nothing. (Like the song says - War, huh, what is it good for? Nothing, absolutely nothing, say it again.)
But Prophet, in 44 years they have developed the technology needed to make Reagan's ABM shield a reality. It's a pretty amazing accomplishment, really. Back then everyone said it just couldn't be done. But GeeDubya fought to keep the program alive and here we are. It's not really what I had wanted for this country, but then I shouldn't be surprised as every candidate I've ever thought was worth a damn has lost.

Part of the reason why Trump's Golden Dome would be a crapshoot with intercepting ICBM's and SLBM's, is that these modern population incinerators might deploy two to three *dozen* decoys along with six to ten actual warheads. Saturation is the strategy for which there is yet no effective countermeasure.
My mom was a union kindergarten teacher and walked the picket line at one point in the 70s and one of her coworkers made these flyers to pass out. I kept mine. I think there was also bumper sticker that said something similar.
This sets my hair on fire. I was a career budget manager with the Department of Defense. Even with very restrictive congressional controls over how money was authorized and appropriated, there were always some systems on which millions were spent on development and procurement only to die after become too “weighty” to be viable. There was no “slush fund” like Trump has dreamed up starting in the OBB. There is no visibility on how those funds are being spent. And that slush fund is HUGE in the 2027 budget request. It is unsustainable. And why are they asking for MORE money for the Iran war?????! Use what they already have. I could go on and on but I won’t. They are robbing us all blind.
The right answer that no politician of either party is willing to fight for is a Pentagon budget no larger than our next two rivals combined which would put it in the range of $500B. And given that Trump sees the next two spenders, China and Russia, as friends, then even that number is way too high. But never, ever forget, all of this bloated, wasteful, corrupt war profiteering, is a major jobs program across the country. And that's why audits don't matter and no amount of pissing money down a hole is too much. After all, no nation can survive without fighter planes like the F35 that cost millions and cannot fly in the rain.
Thank you. And the secretary of defense cannot even count the number of missiles in our stockpile and replenish when necessary. Yeah, give Sociopaths Inc. an open-ended budget enabled by the low IQ voters.
So, here we finally are; at the conclusion of Ronnie's wet dream, the Strategic Defense Initiative. Nearly 40 years, and hundreds of billions of dollars (soon to be trillions of dollars) later and they have finally developed the technology needed to run such a system; which undoubtedly relies on AI Technology. And besides shitloads of petroleum, what else is needed to run massive AI programs (controlling drones, I'm venturing) enough to shield the US from ballistic missile rain? That's right.....huge computers (big energy suck) and the warehouses to put them in.
I am beginning to see the outlines of a bigger picture that includes massive warehouses of AI computers sucking down huge quatities of petroleum energy products to erect an invisible shield of protection around the US running on Elon Musk's Starlink.
Once upon a time in an administration not so far away, they dreamed about the SDI or 'Star Wars'. It may have been a costly nightmare, but the dream never died. Now, they dream of the Golden Dome and golden White House toilets and golden trinkets adorning the walls.
Once upon a time, empires fell when they over-extended themselves. The laws of nature have not fallen asleep. Today's empires will similarly fall. The question is "when?". If the people wake-up and oppose the grotesque DOD budget proposal so strongly Congress dare not ignore them, then maybe our empire of military bases and expensive weapons systems will right-size itself and not collapse.
