President Trump and the election conspiracy theorists he surrounds himself with are determined to exclude people from voting in the 2026 election based on one database: the Department of Homeland Security’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE).
The word "optimized" in DHS's description of DOGE's handling of the SAVE database is doing an awful lot of work. Judging by the error rate, there's nothing optimal about it.
Greg Palast has done GOP voter purge reporting for the Guardian, where he analyzed Red state voter roll updates, and how they would end up purging something like 90% Democrat to 10% Republican voters. The officials would flag common Latino surnames like Garcia; and if a separate list of convicted felons, had an "Andrew Jesus Garcia," for example, all voters of that name would be purged from the voter rolls, irregardless of differences in the social security numbers. They used the same approach with African-American surnames like Washington. Some Red states would pool their data, so all voters named "Andrew Jesus Garcia" would get purged across multiple states.
The point here, is that GOP want to prevent Democrats from voting. By hook or by crook.
Ultimately this is about a national registry and any national registry historically from Caeser to Hitler is about who’s in and who’s out and the justified cruelty that follows. I no longer trust my government lead by a Queens real estate mob boss sundowning as President and his self empretzeling sycophants to use my information wisely for my good and the good of all who live here. The king benefits. The algorithms can be adjusted as necessary to target any group. The info can be used to find & track individuals. This is an administration that in T1 had a database of journalists, immigration attorneys & advocates it shared with MX. Individuals targeted were harassed and detained on both sides of the border to prevent reporting on the ‘caravans’ and assistance to immigrants. The ACLU sued on behalf of some of the journalists. I never read about the outcome.
These types of voter purging have been known for a long time as ways to reduce voter participation by also removing legitimate voters and discouraging people from trying to vote. It apparently isn’t kept up-to-date which benefits the king and his court. The more people removed with ‘suspicious’ names the better for them.
Historically I think the database was for employers to screen employees for legal work status. The company was notified of those whose identification & SS#s didn’t match the files. Now they’ve merged it into several systems thanks to DOGE and it is less accurate. And yes, DOGE was working on a national database.
The illegal voter scam is like the search for ‘fraud’ in Medicaid which has found hardly anything because they look at recipients and not the sources of fraud.

The SAVE database is a joke and duplicate effort. The SSA has citizenship status by SSN. When you naturalize, they update your data. Minnesota, when you register, uses name and last 4 of SSN to verify you against the SSA data. I don’t understand why more states don’t do this.
I found an old AARP article from 2021 that said only 6 states weren’t using it. At one time there was a large group of states that shared info to make sure voters weren’t registered in more than one state. As I remember states run by Republicans began dropping out a while back.

I’m not certain what you are talking about. The Dems are suing to invalidate the Exec Order. They’ve stalled the SAVE Act (by whatever name) in the Senate. The DNC is in the process of rolling out voter a large registration initiative. (For yrs the Dems have been falling behind in voter registration.)
Meanwhile people need to keep an eye on their state legislation where other versions are being passed. KY just passed one that includes proof of citizenship. So folks need to collect their documents - birth certificates, name change court orders (including for women marriage certificates or court ordered name changes after divorce & whatever else may be in their state’s requirements). Assistance is available through some voter advocacy groups — VoteRiders.org is one which helps pay for the costs of documentation.

The other element of this is because the Executive Order will probably not hold up and the bill to enact many changes is stuck in the Senate, states are going ahead and passing their own restrictive election “protection” laws. Kentucky is being sued by DOJ because our Secretary of State (a Republican) sent only publicly available voter data to DOJ. He said he would not violate the law & breech voter data.
Therefore the legislature with some GOP infighting (and some who declined to vote) passed a far reaching “emergency” bill with so many changes & additions it became what we call a “Christmas tree bill”. Of course a main feature was citizenship verification. Another was the legal permission to enter into a contract with the Feds re: voter rolls. Others changes will take some time to suss out but include changes in acceptable voter ID. Social Security cards will no longer be accepted as a secondary ID despite being necessary to get other forms of ID.
It passed before the veto deadline which means the governor can veto it, but the legislature can & will likely override it. All I can say is get your papers, Ladies. Make sure your neighbors, friends & loved ones do too.
