Last Friday, President Trump released an executive order directing officials to install signs outside the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH) informing visitors that the museum presents history inaccurately.
I really admire the courage and sentiments expressed by Anthea Hartig in defending the Smithsonian. Loving one's country doesn't necessarily mean you absolve it of all its faults in displays of blind patriotism. A nation which doesn't reckon with the dark elements of its history isn't well poised to succeed going forward, and I think the U.S.'s deep divides and ensuing political gridlock are evidence of that.
Or to put it another way, let the real historians do their jobs. Reality doesn't have a liberal bias.
Tragically, history has always been written and rewritten by the victors in every war -- and every kind of war. In case you haven't noticed, America is already in the midst of a civil war. At the moment, it is a cultural, intellectual and social war, in which history -- like city planning and the performing arts -- is simply one of the battlefields.
In the long run, we are all dead, of course, but truth generally reasserts itself over longer periods. In time, Trump and his corrupt and lying friends will find a place in history for what they are -- criminal, corrupt, cruel and insane. Disgusting rubbish, really.
But who knows how many of us will live to see the day?
I have been reading about and watching the Barton’s for the last thirty years. They are part and parcel of the Christofascist home school movement, which is part of the seven mountain understanding of the fundamentalist strategy of a two hundred year plan to reclaim America for the white patriarchy. It ain’t conspiracy. We are seeing the generational fruits of the labor - stupidity and absurdity.
From the NYT: “President Trump eulogized Graham as “one of the great figures in Senate history.” Graham, he said, was “truly hawkish: He never saw a war that he didn’t like.” What an awful thing to say about anyone in the 21st century!
That last comment, "And let's just let those guys run our national museums." is one of the laziest sentences possibly ever uttered by a Congressperson. What a piece of unadulterated garbage. Let's just let my kid run the military, he's good with his fists. Let's just let those J6ers run the security at the Capitol. Let's just let Joe Rogan run the FCC. Let's just JD VANCE run diplomacy. Let's just let Melania run the redo of the East Wing. All garbage. All resulting in trash.
The head of Murder Inc. USA continues to try to alter history. I welcome all of his proof he is unfit in every imaginable way. Go ahead, asshat, we’ll tear down everything, with glee once you’re defeated symbolically and effectually in the midterm elections. One of the first acts must be the schedule of when is a lottery of who gets to participate in the eradication of your shit stains all over DC. 86 47

The Civil War never ended. Republicans just changed sides. They will obliterate our history if we let them.

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. WAR IS PEACE.

I wonder if Kalshi has a market for Barton being named head of the Smithsonian.

This is the oldest trick in the book, particularly beloved of anti-intellectuals.
This destruction is seemingly endless.

Trump makes me sick. He prefers large banners with fabulous face, declaring his wisdom and wit, no doubt.
Trump sure knows how to pick ‘em 😳
