Elon is likely using his data to:

A) Identify registered Democrat voters, so they can be added to the USPS "Ineligible to receive Mail-in Ballot" list; and to arrange closure of their precinct polling stations, wherever possible (like in Tarrant Co., TX); and to compile precinct location addresses for where to send armed ICE patrols on election day.

B) Identify registered Republicans, for fundraising purposes. And to identify *their* voting precincts, to ensure they remain properly staffed.

I will vote early and in person. With my passport in hand. I intend for my vote to count! I have also volunteered to drive any voter to the drive up voting in my district.

Red states are already very aggressive in purging from their rolls voters with Hispanic and African-American surnames. They also share this information with other Red states. For example, if "Maria Hernandez" is barred from the rolls in Indiana because of a felony conviction, ALL voters with this name will be similarly removed. And Florida, Ohio and other states will also do so.

Elon's list could allow the GOP to refine this process, ensuring that only "Maria Hernandez's" that are registered Dems are (illegally) removed from the voting rolls of these states, while registered Republicans are not.

If you want to know more about GOP voter purges, check out the reporting of the Guardian's Greg Palast.

Check your registration periodically through your Clerk or State site. Then you can usually avoid a surprise at the polls. Our state doesn’t have same day registration. A lot of states have a deadline after which the rolls can’t be purged.

That’s the sledgehammer approach. I think this is more sophisticated. DOJ / HS through other means have most of the info needed to target voters by precinct & use USPS. (Or USPS can just have a ‘delay’ in some areas. The feds can buy most voter info or go through a contractor. We know DOJ’s database is flawed and it is not a priority to fix it.

Do you remember the Cambridge Analytics scandal? This seems eerily similar. Elon is using micro-targeting for ads & for disinformation. Developing behavioral & psychological profiles. I saw something in the article about tracking: “A code based on the technical traits of the device, known as a device fingerprint, is created so a user can be tracked even if cookies are deleted.”

Would he share with the Feds? I doubt he would for free. Or do they have it? The Israelis have some sophisticated tracking stuff & our gov’t …

Elon has set up an Earth2 voter site supposedly to give voters registration information “aggressive advertising campaign encouraging people in key states to check their registration status”. The info is spread among other actors who are paying Elon for it. His PAC can sell & use information about “whether you are registered to vote” and “how you submit your vote… where permitted by law.” This creation can be “white-labeled” - purchased & rebranded as their own by those who share the same goals. Result: “Sentinel Action Fund, the Super PAC affiliated with the Heritage Foundation, used votesafe.org to create its own voter registration site — register.sentinelactionfund.com”.

The PAC is buying ads. Later the article says voters in this system are receiving incorrect info about registering & voting. With micro-targeting they can target individuals: encourage ‘their voters’ and disinformation for other votes. Is prevalent especially on social media. People think everyone sees the same stuff. Nope. When you search for a product & suddenly ads for the product appears all over your screen. It can happen in seconds & last for days. Other people don’t seeing it. PACs have taken advantage of it. Elon is trying to supercharge it. 2026 may be the trial run for 2028. I can see this info being used in attempts to challenge votes or voters also.

The coup de grâce for individual targets:

— In addition to selling your personal information, America PAC can also sell “inferences” it makes from the information it collects including “psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities and aptitude.” The “business partners” can then disclose your information to other parties. —

So I can't figure out why Trump2 has been so aggressive in trying to get states to turn over their voter rolls if these can be easily purchased online. By anybody.

Name, DOB, address, party affiliation, phone, email. Plus, presumably anyone with a felony conviction(s). What about Social? Passport# if any?

Ann Sharon's avatar

How much info is available varies by state. Probably what is collected does also. Ballotpedia has a chart that gives the details state by state. The overwhelming majority do not release Social Security Numbers. Some withhold DOBs.

https://ballotpedia.org/Availability_of_state_voter_files

Of course checking the database against DOJs would build DOJ’s and having more data could be more accurate - or more to question. But it is weird that they made such a big deal of it. I remember during T1, Pence chaired that task force that wanted voter rolls & states had fits. I believe Kris Kobach was an instigator. They clearly want a national database under their control. Our voting system not being centralized is a big obstacle. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/disbanded-trumps-voter-fraud-commission

OR maybe it wasn’t only the list. There was an agreement too. It required states to ALSO be bound by the results screening by the DOJ database. Whatever ones were rejected by DOJ’s system had to be purged. A big problem for more recently naturalized citizens because HS and this database is known not to be ‘timely’ about updating that. States laws that allow felons to vote of course vary. But I guess that would give the another person to purge & leave it to the state to deal with. https://www.findlaw.com/voting/my-voting-guide/felon-voting-laws-by-state.html

If they got all these things or even half, then the door would be open to run elections from the WH.

NubbyShober's avatar

TY. About a decade ago, Greg Palast did great work exposing how Red states routinely purge predominantly Dem voters from their rolls. E.g., if a "Tanya Lopez" had committed a felony, they'd purge everyone with that name from the rolls. Then send same info to other Red states, who would do the same, potentially disenfranchising dozens of eligible voters. They'd do the same with African-American surnames, like Washington, etc.

This despite each "Tanya Lopez" having a different dob, mailing address. Confirming that they weren't interested in justice; just culling Dem voters.

But since more POC now vote GOP, they could be needlessly disenfranchising--and pissing off--their own voters. It could also be that these Red states have election laws that prohibit using party affiliation in the voter databases they use for purging purposes (to maintain the illusion of impartiality).

Ann Sharon's avatar

Hmm. They might drop that info from the runs. You know they also purge people whose address changed. People move a lot. Microtargeting lets data managers look at other factors: do they shop at Target? And who do ppl who shop there tend to vote for? That’s also related to what Elon’s doing.

(He’s only above water in 3 states. Polling has not indicated that this election voting groups where Drumpf made inroads are happy. That includes young white males, Hispanics, well actually every group including older voters. As the Economist generously puts it “Voters of pension age, normally a solidly Republican bloc, are also surprisingly lukewarm on the president.” He’s more than -10 points with them. -20 with males.)

NubbyShober's avatar

It's the voter roll purges I'm mainly worried about. If Red states purging 6% of registered Dems annually could be replicated at the federal level...it would be a disaster.

NubbyShober's avatar

It must be SS#. Checked some online sites that sell voter databases, and none mention SS#'s.

FYI, Greg Palast at the Guardian has done some great work explaining exactly how Red states like FL, Ohio, etc. purge their voter rolls of "felons" and the deceased; but just happen to also purge valid Dem voters (and a few GOP ones) in the process. This is the way they've illegally--they claim accidentally--purged 5-6% of Dem voters from their rolls annually.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Georgia is known for that. It really helps if you’re the SOS and running for Gov. Greg Palast was the reporter who provided the details for the article. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/oct/19/georgia-governor-race-voter-suppression-brian-kemp

NubbyShober's avatar

He did other articles detailing exactly how in purging felons from the rolls, they'd purge many more non-felons. Almost all of them black and Hispanic registered Dems.

Ann Sharon's avatar

I noticed a few states exclude or ‘shield’ certain people. Others withhold based on who is purchasing - especially for ‘commercial’ purposes. I think the data is supposed to be public for transparency & the ability to communicate with voters. Marketers buy it but theirs would be limited. I guess Elon can fill in the gaps.

At least a decade ago the theory was if you have someone’s full name, age or DOB, and zip code you have enough to figure out the rest & can steal their identity.

NubbyShober's avatar

Elon's list is all voluntarily provided info. Which can be fake, wrong, or just outdated. Which also makes it not legal/official. And in any case is overall quite tiny in scope. Even if he buys/merges kindred lists, like that of the Heritage Foundation.

So the golden nugget he and Trump2 are seeking must be SS# and/or D/L#, passport#. Which then begs the question, why don't they simply purchase other databases with said data?

Ann Sharon's avatar

I don’t think those details are provided by most states. You don’t need that info to communicate with voters.

This is a different kind of database. More like Cambridge Analytica. It’s the sort of thing the CIA would do. He wants to find ways to control people. Marketers and social media has gone way past algorithms.

• How did Cambridge Analytica use the data it collected?

Cambridge Analytica used the data it collected to create psychological profiles of users and tailor political messaging and campaign strategies to specific segments of the electorate.

• Cambridge Analytica utilized data science methodologies to influence political campaigns, raising concerns about privacy and ethical boundaries.

• It has been called “Military Psy-Ops Privatized”. More sophisticated I would think now with AI to help sort, filter and apply the data. Elon’s not only messing with us, he’s is building up nationalist Nazi-adjacent groups in Europe.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Elon doesn’t have superpowers and he’s not going to do some sort of data swaps. I’m going to guess you haven’t worked the polls lately.

People who peddle this stuff make tons of money. Interesting these folks, unlike others, don’t even have the guts to identify themselves.

They say things like it’s hard to prove afterward & you must spread it far & wide now. Of course. It’s a good story to spread if you want to discourage people from voting.

Dorothy Stahr's avatar

Musk is collecting it to create false voting records for massive data swaps in the reporting stream after the counting. Described here: https://thiswillhold.substack.com/p/zoom-recording-the-2024-election?

Scary stuff! Predatory behavior like this needs to be stopped and penalized.

Agreed, but how.? Typically we would have a government agency that would at a minimum investigate. Thankfully Judd has put it out there, but I fear that those who need to understand this the most do not subscribe to Judd Legum.

That's every reason to pass this along to everyone you know. Get it out there!!

Agree Emily. Preaching to the choir, but Judd is excellent at raising awareness about issues that I don't see elsewhere. Can only hope someday (soon) things will improve.

In this day and age and with so much to worry about, why do people click onto unknown websites?

Leon Musk is like a robot who, like his precious Grok, is learning just how susceptible people are as he gets smarter at tricking them.

I know I am speaking to a very small group, but did we learn nothing from Cambridge Analytical? Did we teach our children and students nothing? Trust is for suckers, get it verified or move on.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Cambridge Analytical was my first thought. This is very similar.

RobWhitH's avatar

I hope the MSM picks up this story and outs Elon's fake websites.

Bon's avatar

I'm struggling to believe this is even legal. WTF is wrong with this country and its laws/law enforcement?!!!

Mark's avatar

We are no longer a nation of laws. The oligarchs are in control.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Who would enforce it? Blanche?

Plus the mob boss in the WH killed off devastated agencies that help states with voter security; cyber crime & etc.

Mark's avatar

Because Republican's are in control.

Geoff Webb's avatar

Probably because it's voluntary. Not going to visit the site, but there's likely a box to check or a linked advisory detailing everything you agree to by proceeding. LONG, boring small type, handover of your personal information buried in the middle somewhere.

Suzanne Shassere Allen's avatar

And this type of long, boring, small type "contract" should also be illegal.

NubbyShober's avatar

If Elon provides edited lists of registered Dem voters to Trump2 to be added to his USPS "Do Not Deliver Mail-In Ballots" list, then it won't necessarily be illegal. Unless the Supremes decide it to be Unconstitutional.

Greg Palast has done excellent work on how Red states compile lists of supposed felons, deceased voters and illegals to be removed from the voting rolls, primarily targeting voters with Hispanic and African-American surnames. Many/most of these voters are not even notified by these states; turning up at a polling location and told they're no longer on the rolls.

But Elon's list could greatly refine this process, ensuring only Dem voters are culled.

Marchforsanity's avatar

Incredibly important information that needs to be blasted from the rooftops.

Mark's avatar

The only way Republican's can win an election is to lie and cheat.

Mmmmm, I think I said that before.

Why is it legal to LIE in these spaces on the internet that Musk, Meta, and other inhabit? Such behavior has to have consequences for the perpetrators.

Ann Sharon's avatar

True, although I think the core problem with this is private entities sending out false election info including out of date / incorrect registration forms. We don’t need private registration sites doing anything more than directing people to the proper government sites.

Bill Whitten's avatar

Every county has an official Supervisor of Elections (exact title may vary). You should only deal with that office for all matters of voting. Don’t involve any intermediaries. By default, you should assume they are trying to mislead you. This is one case where “do your own research” is valid.

Don’t vote by mail unless absolutely necessary. While more convenient, the process is far more susceptible to failure and error (even without bad faith actors) than is voting in person.

Ann Sharon's avatar

In KY your County Clerk can give you all the info needed for voting including instructions for registering online through the state portal; calling the state election board to receive a registration card in the mail; or registering at your County Clerk’s office. — Online is the only place to request a ballot by mail.

My husband & I no longer vote by mail due to unreliable mail service sporadically over the past couple of years. I mean unreliable not due to some unavoidable obstacle. In a variety of places in the US - not just KY & IN - delays for mail & packages can be weeks or months sometimes just sitting in a sorting center. The explanation (?) USPS staff cuts and changes in its logistics system. I have mail that showed up in my daily scan that is floating around (or sitting in a center).

musk is trash, and so is all he is associated with. musk should be arrested for crimes against humanity for his dismantling of USAID which has led to the starvation deaths of hundreds of thousands of infants and children. By the time musk is done with his killing spree, Stalin will blush...

Ann Sharon's avatar

This is “small potatoes” by comparison but farmers took a hit when USAID was destroyed. About 40% was purchased from US farmers. They took another hit went grants and contracts were canceled for food banks & other food services here in the US. It’s not a good idea to dismantle food programs or the nation’s food supply.

MPT's avatar

Indeed, the musk genocide, rot and destruction runs deep. Like trump, musk gets high on destroying people's lives and making them hate each other as they purchase his products. Yet, 75% of farmers voted for trump. Sometimes it is wise to beware of what you ask for...

Ann Sharon's avatar

He bailed them out last time. This time they really got fooled. I saw interviews before the election where they said they didn’t think he would do tariffs again or he’d have protection for them. Many were still hopeful last year. Now they are pissed and desperate. He’s not on the ballot and doesn’t need to care.

MPT's avatar

The welfare checks to farmers and ranchers aren't the big payday they expected this time around. You get what you vote for. I have little sympathy for them, but I do pity them and their delusions of the great trump business person, and deal maker...

Ann Sharon's avatar

Aside from the suicides and foreclosures the worst part is we are losing food security for the US.

MPT's avatar

It's not that I don't feel sorry for the Jim Jones, I mean trump followers and their tragic, although completely avoidable, situation, it's that they brought it on themselves.

trump is a soulless beast, so he doesn't care if anyone goes hungry, forecloses on a farm, or commits suicide out of despair. Food insecurity is very low on republican's and trump's list of priorities, since billionaires come first and the rest of the country can go hungry.
