I 100% believe this is designed as punishment for D.C. being so Democratic. Trump is as petty as they come.

not to mention majority Black, and the mayor is Black. First Felon does not care about Black people.

It's also because DC's 700k residents have no representation in Congress. No (voting) Congressmen or Senators. No one to object when the GOP wants to slash their funding to provide billionaires like Elon more tax cuts. DC gets Taxation without Representation.

Alaska's 730k residents, by contrast have 1 Congressman and 2 US Senators--which gives the state enormous clout when it comes to bringing home federal spending. Wyoming has only 579k residents, but also 2 Senators and 1 Congressman. The same is true of ND, SD, RI, Nebraska, and other sparsely populated states.

Pretty sure the plan is:

1.cause rioting

2. Implement martial law

3.eliminate future elections

Need to avoid this

What is this administration doing that is positive? Positive for the average voter, not counting profitable for the uber echelon. I must be missing it. All I see is meanness and destruction.

Judd, you often feature seemingly subsidiary stories that contain kernels of all the major stories that preoccupy—ad nauseam—the mainstream press. The Washington story is fascinating because lawmakers will have to live with the effects of the budget cuts in their daily lives while Congress is in session. Coupled with local dissatisfaction with governance issues, I can’t imagine this will be an easy ride for the GOP, and it may even serve to underline the effects of Trump’s financial priorities on the rest of us all across the country. As always, thank you for the important stories you bring to the forefront.

If Democrats do not filibuster this steaming pile of dog poop they will lose the base of the party forever.

The most distressing part is the republicans in silence. Just seem happy to allow the destruction of the American experiment.

yes. whether it's fear or active complicity doesn't matter.

Complicity. This is the Republican plan since Nixon.

Just a crack in the dam. We need more pressure. We need to keep increasing the pressure until Scotty says "Captain, I dinna tink she can take any more!"

Absolutely. They have lost me. The Democrats in Congress are the problem. They care about their job, not about Democracy. Look at those who are interviewed on Television who decry Trump, yet vote with the Republicans. They have the gall to send "please rush $200 to me to fight Trump" A total bunch of sham artists !

Big promises, lame excuses...rank dishonesty. Retribution, wrecked economy & Putinism. Buckle up for "detox" from the Biden economy that the WSJ 10/3//24 said: "The Next President Inherits a Remarkable Economy" then envy of the world. https://www.wsj.com/economy/the-next-president-inherits-a-remarkable-economy-7be2d059

I hate this analogy but: Republican voters are acting like an abused spouse, beaten gaslit, starved and yet, still coming back, still sleeping with the enemy, still thinking there is hope for a peaceful house. Republican voters should burn their own house down. Now.

Remember when the republican party attempted to block whatever former president Obama wanted to do no matter how much it may have benefitted their own constituency?

Now democrats need to do the same to the republicans to prevent them from doing what they want to do no matter how disasterous it may be for their own constituency!

I'm going to start calling democratic reps this week. In each case I plan to tell em to put their ass-kicking boots on and go to work doing the job they were elected to do for us!

For we the PEOPLE!

Every word from Trump and Musk is a lie,but every lie has an ulterior motive; protecting the tax benefits of the ultra rich at the expense of the "little people.". Whatever is not in this mindset is retribution for imagined slights.

Always an ulterior motive with Trump

This is why we need to definitely include DC in the Blue State Secession plan. I like Whittenberger's peaceful leaving plan, which should make both sides happy.

https://secularhumanism.org/exclusive/secession/

If we look at this map of Blue governors, you see that while we do not need to annex with Canada to form our own country, like the Democratic States of America, leaving the Un-united States to the Reds, or The Confederate States of America.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:United_States_Governors_map.svg

So we have the DSA and the CSA. Sometimes an idea has reached its time. That is what has happened with this idea of all of our states being together. This article on the Southerners has helped to convince me that this is the best way to go.

Trump can move the US capital to Palm Beach, Florida and Mar-a-lago can be his White House. They already have the security plan figured out, and he can golf all the time and be on duty.

Who will get the nukes? We can divide them. We can elect a new president. We can create a new constitution. Or we can go with a parliamentary government, one that does not allow illiberal parties to exist. I think we should get the plan up and running by 2026. That way we can include it on the ballot to stay or go. If anything, it would serve as a wake up call to Republicans. We know from Alaska and Hawaii and Kaliningrad that States do not need to be contiguous to be part of a country. There should be funds to move people, and that is not going to be money going into Musk's pocket. There can be a year long period for the transition, and then afterwards, people can choose to switch sides for up to a year. Passports should last until the expire.

Instead of us leaving, could we just kick them out? They don't like our Constitution anyway. They can form their Gilead, just the way they want it.

They will not leave because they like "winning." Also, Trump will believe he made a "better deal," until he figures out that revenue is going to be down a lot. That would be such a good way for Republicans to see what kind of country their plans really make. Instead of letting them tank everyone and everything, they would only be tanking what is still there. I think we need a new constitution that is modern and can have things like the women's right to choose abortion or bodily autonomy, and a more inclusive policy in general.

A speaker at a rally yesterday pointed ou that the CR refers to DC as a federal government department. If that stands, the government could take over the police force and shut down all demonstrations in the District. When my group met with Rep Connolly’s office, they confirmed that DC was being termed that way in the bill. They didn’t seem to be aware that it might have that implication.

Any Democrat, Senate or House, for whatever reason, that supports efforts such as this, is complicit. This is cruelty and retribution, plain and simple.

Trump's petty vengeance knows no bounds--he'll punish every area that votes Democratic which meanwhile punishes everyone who votes for anyone or no-one. This is the way to destroy America, and continue to obey Putin's and Musk's hatred and jealousy of this amazing country. Too many Republicans are on board with Trump to pass these laws that will devastate the beauty and functioning of our nation's Capitol. They each deserve Town Hall backlash--which brings a notoriety that can lay a groundwork for them losing their seats in the next election.

This report is amazing in scope, detail, and importance--Kudos to Judd, Rebecca, and Noel for this intensive work. Thank you!

As a DC resident, thank you for covering this! We’ve often been used to implement policies that Republicans wanted to test out before they rolled out nationally. So the budget cut and, more ominously, the proposal to strip us of our elected government is not a good sign for the country. But we PI readers alreadyknow it is all at risk.
