According to media reports, most corporations have already forgotten about January 6, 2021, and resumed supporting Republicans who voted to overturn the election. That is not true.
This is exactly what many of us predicted/knew would happen. These corporations don't give a sh-t about the country. They care about the "bottom line" and that's it. Long ago, they decided that they benefitted from lower taxes and that's all that matters to them, and they will funnel their money to whoever promises that to them. If the country falls apart in the process, so be it.
I know you pulled just the 94 folks whose PAC data would make sense for analysis, but it does make me wonder if looking at the data over a broader set of samples would tell a slightly more revealing story. For example, objector or not, has there been a change in PAC contributions? Namely, your tap sample points straddle Covid, so I’m wondering if pre/post-pandemic contributions look different for many candidates with the idea that money could be tighter for this cycle than it was before Covid really kicked in. I know your reporting suggests that most larger corporations are doing just fine - or even better - through Covid, but this was a question that popped into my head. Does any of your data suggest a difference in contributions for the larger candidate pile between the two periods, or are you actually seeing a much larger dip just for the set of candidates that were objectors?
Being from St. Charles Missouri I can only imagine those PAC donations to Blaine Leutkemeier came from real estate developers. New developments outpace the need.
That we need resources like Pop Info to help counter a false narrative of donations to Republican objectors ramping up is perhaps not the biggest takeaway here, but a salient one nonetheless. Unless you're a GOP leader or whatever Matt Gaetz is, you've taken a hit to your donations if you're an objector. There's enough distrust in political mass media today. The aforementioned outlets don't need to feed it.
Good report but I think it would be worthwhile to show how newcomers like MTG did compared to their predecessors, and also how the freedom caucus did.
These folks are the tip of spear real danger to democracy and it would be telling, how they are doing from both private and corporate donations in a comparison to nearest historical comparators.
I wonder if a trend analysis of contributions tells the same story? Contributions can be down over the total period while ramping up to more normalized levels recently. Might be good to have that context, thanks!
Americans MUST overturn the big lie of Citizens United. Corporate America is the furthest thing from what’s good for America or Americans.
Agree! I’m so tired of fundraising appeals from incumbents. I can’t help thinking CU forces these upon all of us individuals.
Once again, MSM tries to normalize 1/6/21 while PI digs deep. Thank you Judd!
Great column and good news, Judd. The corporate lobbyists are probably gnashing their teeth this morning that the truth is coming out.

Please tell us WHO is contributing to the objectors. Even one dollar is too much.

Thank you. It might be a good comparison to see PAC contributions to Dems as well, and what changes have occurred, if any.

Thank you for your meticulous scrutiny of the numbers.
The people of the U.S.A. do not realize how close they came to having a orange baboon psychopath as a dictator.
Could you possibly share contributions level for Congressman Tim Burchett, TN (my Rep)?
Why not print a list of who gave money to these Scum bags.
