Polymarket’s approach to “news” is not much different than that of ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and, of course FOX “Not-Really-News” daily dose of half-truths, misinformation and outright lies. It’s just a little more obvious to people who pay attention. Unfortunately, too few people are paying attention.

Use your common sense and if a story sounds farfetched, look if you can find corroborating stories on all different kinds of platforms to confirm them.

It baffles me as to why anyone would use real $ to place “bets” in these outfits. There are no rules or regulations - simply a big con game. I guess there’s more entertainment value than just lighting the money on fire, but the results are still the same.

Don’t confuse the opinion and talking head output of CNN, Fox and whatever MSNBC calls itself these days with news reporting. And conflating professional journalists with an outfit that’s a step up from DraftKings is simply OTT.
I’m objectively not doing that. Most of what people watch Fox for is its opinion shows (e.g. Hannity, Ingraham, Carlson and O’Riley before they got canned). This is not reporting, anymore than Don Lemon or Chris Hayes are reporters.
People also watch them for straight news reporting. The slant comes in what they choose to report. Fox will ignore news that is unfavorable to Trump while highlighting immigrant caravans. MSNBC will go out of its way to report anything that is embarrassing to Trump while ignoring stories that are of less interest to leftists. Most charges of media bias boil down to editorial decisions, while less politicized stories (heh, I know) all outlets cover are surprisingly similar in coverage. This is because there are standards of reportage and only so many sources on a given issue or topic.

I wonder. A lot of people seem to seek out the news source that flatters their opinions and world view, right? Regardless, there is no doubt that Fox News does a terrible disservice to their viewers, stoking their fears and often just lying to them.
I think the real takeaway is the degree to which opinion journalism has usurped traditional news reporting. People can’t even tell the difference anymore.

I’d love to read more in depth research about this 28 year old kid, Shayne Coplan, who thinks he has cornered selling “truth” for a profit. As an old retired guy who has been around both large corporate settings and the federal government for DECADES, I have rarely found that those two concepts align comfortably. Looks like snake oil to me. As the old saying goes, the best way to fool people is by mixing a little bit of “truth” with a whole lot of deception.
These companies need to be regulated. Polymarket is making statements online that give the impression that what they're saying is actual news when they are not required to have multiple sources and are able to post whatever they want. Very dangerous. Esp for our dumb MAGA minions
