While this about-face by notable corporations is disturbing, the Big-Beautiful_Omnibus_Bill has lots of hidden nasties. Robert Reich has reported that there is a hidden provision to exempt the Trump Executive lawyers from Contempt of Court for ignoring judicial orders...

I think I caught it here recently but this bill has a provision where states cannot regulate AI for ten years. AI is scary enough but no regulations?!?!?

This bill is carte blanche for these corporations to suck our last penny and all of our rights to defend ourselves from their greed and need for power. And I am not talking about being able to buy crap at Walmart, but to make a telephone call or watch the TV or Internet or buy gasoline. They are about to load moldy government cheese on poor areas of the country and call it cake. (Also, they will call it Biden cake.)

Berkley School of Law Dean and Prof. Erwin Chemerinsky wrote about the contempt limitations in the Just Security Substack. It would go far beyond limiting contempt by administration lawyers. The Senate parliamentarian may also rule against it as it has no effect on revenues and therefore cannot be part of a reconciliation bill. Not very comforting that we may have to rely on a single referee to save us from absolute tyranny.

(Thanks to Heather Cox Richardson for the link to Chemerinsky's piece)

The Republicans will just get another parliamentarian if the current one disagrees. I hate to be a cynic but the Republicans just don’t care.

Are there no demonstrations against this evil of ending the practical assistance to help those who need help the most? against Trump's hideous big bill being sneaked through the House in the hours after midnight? Thank you for informing us directly about what is being taken away and who is supporting it. [This should help those planning to demonstrate--we need more than "86 (get rid of offering) Musk and Trump". We need to know which Congressmen are perpetrating the fulfillment of Trump's greediest intentions.]

A long time T Mobile customer, I sent them the following message this morning:

I am extremely disappointed that T Mobile supports the “Big Beautiful” murder budget that takes food and healthcare from the most vulnerable, weakens the US financial picture and limits our legal system by throttling our courts. We are considering our alternatives to T Mobile.

I wish all their customers would do the same.

Sorry, but all of these letters to corporations and calls to our representatives have zero effect. What is needed is a national strike and boycott. STOP GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY!

I love that you did that. Every individual has a certain amount of power and a chance to let their voice be heard, if only in an email to a huge corporation who quite likely has AI reading emails from customers like you.

So what? You did it! You can feel good today.

I ended my T Mobile contract when they began adverstising their Starlink service. I know I can't stop Starlink but I can easily change phone companies. Switched to another company not listed in this story but fear it too will pop up in the future . Big business is not our friend. letters don't work I've heard. In another year, I don't know where we will be but I'll be saving a ton of money boycotting!

As if a company like Comcast needed any more black marks on its checkered reputation. Sheesh.

Well it passed.

All corporations of any size give to their community. It's good PR. It means nothing in the scheme of things.

Of course these companies will benefit.

All individuals can do is shun them by not buying from them.

...that would mean shunning all providers of phone-tv-internet services?

How about We The People of the United States of America reach out to ‘OUR’ representatives >call, write, stand outside an office or 2…& negate comments like Comcast’s “We urge the House to pass this legislation quickly,”

& let Our voices be heard

‘We urge the house NOT pass the current (Republican domestic policy bill) legislation ‘

Big corp. might help fund you but your constituents vote you in. Who do you work for?

You can reach out to rep’s online & or get office #, office address…I.e (last name).house.gov for instance > fitzpatrick.house.gov)

Create your own script or use one above.

The cruelty of the GOP seems to be its mantra. Let’s make them pay in the midterms. It’s the time now to begin raising money and finding attractive Democratic to run against Republicans in the competitive districts of California and New York.

Just read this "1. The Rich get RICHER, 2. the Poor get POORER, 3. the Middle Class squeaks by, 4. the Deficit goes UP, and 5. the Debt goes UP". EVERYONE in America knows who NOW officially HURT them - can you say Republicans. And once again it is clear that America is going down as a country and an economy because once again "Everything Trump Touches Dies." Donnie plays golf (fiddles and WE pay for it, see how it works in Donnie's world - he doesn't pay for anything but YOU DO!) while America burns and Republicans everywhere in America are pouring logs and coals and you and your family and your future on the fire..........

Legislation beginning with the New Deal and a progressive expansion and creation of laws that helped citizens move into the middle class kept socialist revolutionary zeal at bay in the U.S. This shredding of the socialized safety net will halt and reverse this trend. Add the reality and perception that the GOP's foremost concern is to cater to the interests of capital and the uber wealthy it will not take much to ignite the passions of the poor, working, and middle class to start a revolution that prioritizes their interests and drive the GOP from power. By passing this terrible bill the GOP is attending their own funeral. Staging a nationwide walkout, among other tactics, is way overdue.

States and NGOs, including religious organizations, are going to have to foot the bill going forward. Trump et al wants to get the Federal government out of the charity business. While I don't agree with that stance, I understand it.

My cracked crystal ball says that States that take this increase in responsibility and run with it, will see increases in populations that need this support. Those living in and moving to more conservative states will gamble that they will remain healthy and employed.
