I hope there is serious investigation into the possibility that the "assassination attempt" was staged. There are too many questions --from the foreshadowing by Nick Fuentes and others, to the glaring error of not securing the roof, to the fact that the gunman was spotted and ignored, to the perfect stagecraft by donald. Not to mention the email blast he sent out before the rally ("all hell will break loose") and the perfect timing to give him the hero's welcome and the "touched by an angel" crap. He went golfing Sunday. I have a lot of questions.

The golfing thing is what struck so many. Biden would have been comforting the families of the injured & deceased! Trump was hit with glass not a bullet that his cult claims. Bullet graze to the head would have caused profuse bleeding.

Biden did comfort the families and so did the vice president. The wife of the deceased would not take his call because her husband wouldn’t have approved.

What an unbelievably petty response by that suffering widow--may she heal and continue to heal.

It’s one of those viral TikTok videos that turns out not to be what it represented. We can thank Mike Lee. If he had common sense or even a sense of responsibility he would have verified that first.

— This was posted by Republican Senator Mike Lee who said gets shot gets up the next day goes golfing.

This video was taken from TikTok but the user who posted the video is private.

After the video was shared millions of times, Lee corrected his post and said in his comments okay I’m told this video was uploaded today but not taken today. My bad!” —

Ginny K, I have all the same questions. I would also like to see a diagram of the trajectory of the bullet(s). My immediate thought was where did that bullet end up? Where were this man and his family seated? Were they on stage to Trump’s left as he faced the audience? I’ve seen nothing in print about where that man was seated - only that he tried to shield his family. You would go into “shield” mode only after realizing shots are being fired. Where did the other 8-12 shots go? People who were seated in the center of the stage, directly behind the podium, appeared momentarily confused and some just sat back down. They weren’t, as a group, cowering or trying to exit. The whole scene seemed off to me.

Have you ever heard people involved in a mass shooting describe their reactions and their thinking? First they think it is firecrackers. Next they don’t know what to do. And lastly a person may be in ‘shock’. Their senses are narrowed etc. fight, flight or FREEZE.

No. You're spreading a conspiracy theory and I respectfully urge you to stop.

There is a lot of bad info out there because (as usual) everyone wanted to spread their 2 cents worth (most of it worth less than nothing) as fast as possible.

It is not clear the gunman was ignored. There is reporting that local/state police told Sec Serv they were looking for a suspicious person. Local police say they secured the inside of the building but weren’t in charge of the rooftop. When they got reports of someone on the roof they boosted (by hand) an officer up to see. The gunman aimed at him. The officer could not act because he was holding onto the building & wound up falling to the ground.

I think at this point there are overwhelming indications of a gap in security between the feds who were in charge, oversee & coordinate with local/state law enforcement. Secret Service does not have the personnel to cover the entire area. Sec Serv stays close to whoever they are protecting & it is typical to handoff the outer perimeter to state/local law enforcement. Sec Serv says they identified the building as a risk. We know ultimately the security & its failure is their responsibility.

Let’s cool our jets until we have more facts. For instance, the ‘all hell will break loose’ line is a DJT fave from Jan 6. It had an entirely different context in the PA fundraising email:

Mike Lee is NOT a reliable source. He started the golfing fake news.

And then we have the esteemed Lester Holt pressing (badgering?) President Biden on his "language," asking if Biden had done any "soul searching," and pressing him to "lower the temperature." All this in reference to a private phone call with donors during which Biden used the word "bulls-eye."

Context matters. Both-sidesism like this is journalistic malfeasance.

The "media" is doing the bidding of their leash holders. Any spokesmodel with enough integrity to push back is already gone. Their leash holders love their low taxes and are whistling past the graveyard which contains their own, undated tombstones while pretending that those dates will never be chiseled in, an event which will happen for each of them just as soon as they say the slightest thing which isn't fawningly loyal to Herr Trump (IF he's reelected).

All of this Republican militant rage cannot help but attract more violence. There's a deeper level on which life on earth plays itself out. The spiritual test reminds me of Michele Obama's, "When they go low, we go high." Our challenge is to find that higher way of responding that inspires and attracts the best in all of us.

Insanity. So much insanity from the Rethugs, all out in full public view. I fear for our democracy but will keep on writing to legislators, using Resistbot, writing postcards, sharing Substack articles...but it's difficult not to wonder what happens in November if they lose and again refuse to accept the results. Worry less, do more.

“Worry less, do more.” Nice! That’s the perfect response. We all need to do more.

That worry is another reason why we need the couch sitters to vote. It makes the work you are doing all the more important!

We must continue to be vigilant about all rhetoric...from both and all sides. Those who make up the National Guard include people influenced by Trump and his disinformation squad.

Let's remember what John Flannery reminded us about: Thomas Jefferson believed that the people would eventually understand what was important. That is, if we contiue to put out the truth as we know it. And, thank you, Judd and team!

These quotes should be part of ALL media coverage of both the shooting and the convention. If there is a key to winning this election then it is that uneasy feeling that some GOP voters have about the direction of their part and their candidates.

North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson is the Republican candidate for governor of our state. It's totally obvious from his fevered rhetoric that he should never be governor of any state.

This is another quote from Robinson, in which he makes clear his views on women and abortion: “Abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers. It’s about killing the child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.”

Yep, he's a true Republican all right.

If you're a citizen of North Carolina, please do all you can to prevent this monster from being governor. Consider giving to the campaign of the Democratic candidate, Josh Stein. Thank you.

I'm not convinced it was a serious assassination attempt. But if it was, these republicans have no one to blame but themselves. They are all evil, soulless people who can't satisfy their endless need for power. They are disgusting hypocrites in every facet of their lives. They are literal traitors to our country.

The fascist minority is open with their threats of violence. We must take them at their word and insist that law enforcement take them at their word. Threats are a form of assault.

Expand full comment

Judd, can you research why terrorist threats, intentional lies that result in harm to others by republicans continues without arrests? I’m serious with this question. We witnessed Biden and numerous Democrats publicly say the shooting is unacceptable. Biden checked on trump..we know trump would never do the same with a reversed situation.

Heritage Foundation is a terrorist inciting group. Why is the US so utterly weak not to go after domestic terrorism & seditionist inciters? Remove the corrupt SCOTUS judges by arresting them. The proof of corruption is in black & white. No more 4 year investigations. We need immediate action!

Expand full comment

The short answer is the US has a definition of domestic terrorism. There is no penalty. As you can imagine this complicates matters because other statutes with penalties must be used to prosecute.

I’d compare it to states like mine where ‘domestic violence’ or ‘intimate partner violence’ is not a crime. Cases are prosecuted under laws for homicide, assault, harassment, etc. and the case is characterized as domestic violence for how it is investigated, charged and handled.
