In a Facebook post published on June 23, Congressman Jim Hagedorn (R-MN) used white nationalist rhetoric to condemn the Black Lives Matter movement. Hagedorn wrote that the Black Lives Matter movement is “at war with our country, our beliefs and western culture.” He insisted that Americans must oppose the Black Lives Matter movement to defend the nation’s “Judeo-Christian values” and “American way of life.” Hagedorn represents a congressional district just 50 minutes south of where a police officer murdered George Floyd in May.
Judd, thank you for continually hanging out the dirty laundry! So many people vote without knowing these things because digging deep on each and every candidate is time consuming so they just go with the incumbent if things aren’t too bad. This may help change some minds especially in light of the current environment
UHG has just issued a statement: "We were unaware of these egregious and hurtful statements attributed to Rep. Hagedorn and they in no way reflect the values of our company. We regret our past contributions, and will not make any future contributions to him.” FWIW I forwarded the newsletter to a contact who's an executive of a UHG subsidiary, my contact escalated it internally, and within hours this happened. IMPACT!!
It's sad when seeing even one company align their political contributions with their public statement of principles causes a bit of joy. Intel's direct response to the author is a lonely outlier in the world of corporate disconnect between words and actions.
The rest of the companies can join the blob and his minions in Hell.
And I wonder if they would even be bothering if Judd hadn’t asked for a comment about it. How many other contributions do they have that don’t “align with their current process”?
Good on Intel. It's so annoying to see all of these companies saying one thing publicly and then do the exact opposite behind closed doors. Hopefully your reporting is changing that. I enjoyed the blurb at the start of a story earlier this week where someone cited your reporting on this exact issue. Well done and keep up the phenomenal work!

Abolish corporate PACs.
I’d like to know what we as individuals can do to shame these companies? My insurance is United Health Care and I’m FURIOUS!
FYI they just had to walk back their support. Your fury is justified!

Wow, he sounds like quite the swell guy! I'm betting that he gets reelected yet again, though.
Thank you for your in depth investigative journalism.
It's infuriating how enured to hypocrisy and corruption we have become. Thanks for exposing the truth of GOP despicability.

Will it ever happen? Take those greedy hands filling the elected's pockets away!
I just can't wrap my head around why he felt the need to mention that Coming to America was a "hit comedy" in that quote.
