if trump wants to bail out the UAE, let him spend his own money. I'm tired of him stealing our taxes to fix his BS. Besides, he'd be spending the taxes he has already stolen from us.

Stealing our taxes, providing no services for them except tax breaks for billionaires and growing our debt which at 39 tril is now supposedly going to need 1 tril in debt payment each year from our taxes as well.

Hope to offset some of the cost to Americans by having trumps stolen booty confiscated and used to help those who were ripped off, with the help of a legitimate Justice Dept. in 2028.

Why doesn't he just take the money from us and put it straight into his and Jared's bank accounts? Or does he need the Emiratis to launder it for him first? Forget Roberts' granting him immunity, these and many more are not presidential acts, they're crimes.

Well- he IS suing the IRS for $10 BB. So, suing an agency as a private citizen while you also are the chief executive in charge of the agency is just about as good as just taking cash out of the United States government and putting it in your own pocket.

Linda Weide's avatar

Exactly. He needs them to launder it because he does not have us under total control yet.

Well, he's doing that, too, with his lawsuit settlements.

So the pattern is:

the Trump family takes $187 million from a Tahnoon-linked buyer of World Liberty Financial, then MGX pumps $2 billion of Trump’s own stablecoin into Binance, then the administration hands the UAE the advanced chips Tahnoon has wanted for years, and now the Treasury is weighing a currency-swap bailout for a country that is not a major U.S. trading partner and explicitly refused to let its airspace be used against Iran.

This is not foreign policy. It is a receivables schedule. Hassett calls them an “incredibly valuable ally,” which is true if you are measuring value in the Witkoff column.

The quiet part is that the UAE does not need the dollars. The Trump family needs the UAE to keep having reasons to send them.

What kind of country is this—personal/authoritarian/oligarchy?!

Today we read news that could only have been dreamed up by the worst pulp dystopian fiction writers. And yet it's true.

Corrupt and deplorable all the way up and down. Trump and family and Republican Party consiglieri are all simply one big racketeering syndicate. A national disgrace.

As a former teacher I know the rules of classroom management, which can apply in this instance. If you offer this to one of the countries affected, they will all be asking for a bailout, and why shouldn't they, we have harmed their economies by this Godforsaken war.

However, I would point out that any country that encouraged Trump to go to war against Iran should not be eligible. I think the UAE is part of that. Still, I can see Trump giving them a bail out and then being forced to do it elsewhere. That money will end up partially in his pocket anyway.

Will all members of Trump's Board of Peace be entitled to a bail out too?

And yet, and yet, and yet. Twump stood in front of a podium at some point in the blur that is recent time and said, "(The United States) cannot afford (to pay for) child care, we cannot afford Medicare, we cannot afford Medicaid: we must fund the military."

That is a billboard I'd like to see across America, doubled up in the red states,

The only thing that I see that is imported from the UAE is a $25 candy bar. They can go f themselves as far as I am concerned. I have no love for the UAE. Looking at their leadership, there are NO women. Looking at their culture, there are NO gays. Looking at their ideology, well you go ahead. We know nothing about them because they do not have a free press. Why should we give a dictatorship posing as a monarchy (are they the same?) our fn money?

We cannot afford the shit we need at home and we are spending $1B a day dropping bombs on Iran. For what? Where is our break? When do we get to live safely, comfortably and securely again? When will women feel safe in America again? The government is targeting our rights, the manosphere would prefer we did not exist. The laws which protect us and our children are eroding while homegrown rapists, pedos, and killers are pardoned by this despot.

I say NO. Did anyone ask?

This is the kind of article that one only sees on popular information and that keeps me as a paying subscriber. Thanks for the great work.

Taking over the entire world while leaving U.S. citizens to pay for it all and get nothing in return. It’s time for the revolution

Also from that WSJ article there's this gem:

"Emirati officials told the U.S. officials that if the U.A.E. runs short of dollars, it may be forced to use Chinese yuan or other countries' currencies for oil sales and other transactions, some of the officials said.

In that scenario is an implicit threat to the U.S. dollar, which reigns supreme among global currencies partially because of its near-exclusive use in oil transactions."

No doubt the grift, which is the animating force of the Trump presidency, is a huge factor in the proposed bailout, but I think the open threat to upend the petrodollar probably scared the shit out of the administration as well.

It seems doubtful that the UAE needs a "bailout" in the truest sense of the word. Some market observers are seeing this currency swap bid as a warning to the U.S. that they could just as easily tie their currency to the yuan, not the dollar. While also serving the Trump family's ends, this may be about preserving American economic hegemony, or at least trying to do so.
