“1, 2, 3, 4…..

Civil Rights ‘R Out The Door”

Welcome to Jim Crow 2.0

If you thought blatant racism would not return, you were seriously wrong.

History repeats itself, over and over and over again.

Resist Trump 2.0 any way you can.

Marge Wherley's avatar

And probably blatant misogyny as well.

Robot Bender's avatar

I live deep in MAGAland and racism, misogyny run deep. It's also the headquarters of the AoG.

VALERIE MELUSKEY's avatar

Sorry, but it never left.

Joe Sheil's avatar

There are three guiding principles of MAGA: ignorance, misogyny and racism. The Felon-in-Chief doesn’t have the intellect or interest to try to understand what happened in 1964. But the architects of project 2025 do, and this would be part of the marching orders for their new puppet. God help us all, indeed.

Marge Wherley's avatar

All he knows is that he and daddy were sued for racial discrimination in refusing to rent to Black tenants. And they had to pay a big settlement. And this man can hold a grudge longer and easier than he holds Bibles.

James Burnham's avatar

That is a huge symptom of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Joseph Mangano's avatar

That last bit seems salient. Republicans aren't challenging Trump on his actions for fear of reprisal. If they won't hold him accountable, we need to hold them accountable for being bystanders while America plunges into fascism.

Francesca's avatar

They are up his butt for the power, nothing else!

George's avatar

At what point are all the people in these protected categories and who will be left out now and who voted for Trump———-wake up? Trump really wants to return to the blatant racism of his youth and to the “keep them bare foot and pregnant and in the kitchen” of that same time period. I think that he spends a lot of time in his mind influenced by 1940’s B movies !

Robot Bender's avatar

I had Dominionists tell me that was their goal back in the 90s.

William McCann's avatar

Thank you for this substantive coverage of a key issue. I wish we had a hundred POPULAR INFORMATIONs!

Adam's avatar

We need them but we also need the general population to READ them!!!

Katy Bolger's avatar

Dress em up and let them dance on TikTok and then the general public will get it. Sexy girls and hot guys preferred.

Adam's avatar

Ya know, that might actually work. Lol

There is a group of fools here in Chicago. Call themselves CFR (Chicago Flips Red). They said Black people have been betrayed by the democrats and that's why they support the president elect." The rest of you have been brainwashed or bought off by the democratic plantation" they said. On and on their screed went.

What are they thinking now? More stupid thoughts? Probably they'll say, he only did that to set up an even and fair playing field because " the president elect doesn't see color."

I want to tell them that I've got a condo on Mars for sale with excellent parking and one HELL of a view!

Katy Bolger's avatar

So funny! Because I know one of those Chicago fools. He hated Obama, and now, I suppose loves Trump. This seems like a kind of Stockholm syndrome, doesn't it?Although I am sure there is a better term for it: when you have been held down so long, when you have been made to feel unsafe and unwanted, when you look in the mirror with the same hatred you see in the eyes of people on the street and elsewhere, then you hate the Black president (because he's Black) and love the racist president (because he corroborates your deeply held beliefs about Black people which is self loathing).

Adam's avatar

You just described a family member whom I love and can no longer discuss ANYTHING political with because of the foolishness that you describe.

Robot Bender's avatar

My only sibling disowned me back in the early 2000s over religion and politics. We've barely spoken since then. Our oldest daughter and SIL voted for the Felon in Chief twice. At least they've agreed to avoid the subject, as well as their religious beliefs. We didn't raise her that way. Propaganda works.

Adam's avatar

Exactly. My family is full of intelligent, capable and compassionate people. But we also have these outliers who not only "should" but "do" know better! Propaganda is a mighty tool indeed.

Lucy Guerlac's avatar

Unfortunately I have one of those.

SeekingReason's avatar

Katy, stockholm syndrome is a great description of this!

SeekingReason's avatar

Adam, fellow Chicagoan here. This is shockingly true. There are blacks supporting a man & his followers who want it taught that slavery was beneficial to the slaves because it “taught them skills” Sheer lunacy and also these black groups hate the LGBTQIA community. Truly a stunningly stupid ideal to follow a Fascist & think that is better than any progress made exclusively by Democrats. They have some valid complaints, but to choose an oppressive mafia group like Felon trump & his mafia is mind boggling.

Adam's avatar

"They have some valid complaints, but to choose an oppressive mafia group like Felon trump & his mafia is mind boggling."

Talking to the folks who ain't listening, who thought they knew something and now that they don't, will they try to listen?

They're big mad because migrants are getting the support we should have had all along but one must consider that these migrants come with NOTHING! The ones from south of the border are coming for the jobs we owe them!

Why can't they stay and "fix their own country?" Because we, the USA broke their country. American interests dictated that profits for the United Fruit Co were more important than the individual freedoms of the people in the countries where the UFC operated.

So the USA in it's grand wisdom, allowed the UFC to lay waste to the South Americas. Democratically elected leaders were replaced by strongmen who would do our bidding. Now that it's payback time, you'll find that most Americans don't even know about these things that are part of American history and occurred only a few short decades ago.

Katy Bolger's avatar

Seekingreason: Good point: always stupid to follow and trust a fascist - especially too close. The nearer you are the more likely the next bullet is for your noggin. See: Stalin.

James Burnham's avatar

Anyone can learn skills in prison.

Adam's avatar

I didn't even get to the "these black groups hate the LGBTQIA community."

Oh yes they do. What happened to love for ALL the children of our creator? That's what they go to church every Sunday to learn and share, right?

James Burnham's avatar

Elon beat you to that one! He OWNS Mars.

Adam's avatar

Good one! That also helps to underscore my point, sarcastic as it may have been. Lol.

SeekingReason's avatar

HOW. THE. HELL. can one man reverse, inflict, change -against the will of the people so many critical rights!!!!! HOW STUPID is a system and a people who allow it!!

Tai's avatar

Ironically, Trump’s increasing vote share from non-White voters embraced his agenda with gusto. You really have to hand it to the republicans who successfully got working class whites to vote against their own interests for years, now they are getting minority groups to start doing the same.

Joe Weicher's avatar

All in keeping with the Trump/MAGA goal of taking us back to the good old days of the 1950s.

Robot Bender's avatar

^^This. I've actually read that a few southern politicians have floated the idea of reviving slavery. Not that private prisons aren't a modern equivalent.

Bill Whitten's avatar

Not just private prisons. The state prisons in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and others are functionally slavery camps. Read “How the Word is Passed” by Clint Smith.

Robert's avatar

I wholeheartedly agree with William McCann….fabulous reporting by Judd!

GingerLee's avatar

He and his team are tireless ... a treasure.

Chris R's avatar

You know that there's no way 47 thought this policy up. I'm sure all these executive orders were crafted by the deep red state behind Project 2025. I'd like to see how all 200 map to that document, the one that 47 said he had nothing to do with.

Katy Bolger's avatar

When history is written, and this is the era they are writing about, look no further than this instrument of information: PI. Good work getting to the historical aspect of this abomination.

I hope all of the non-white non-male people who voted for Trump are beginning to see the light. Unfortunately, that light comes in through the rips being made in the fabric of our country.

Thank you for publishing quick chats with experts. I love journalism that is part teacher and part accountability of the powerful.

Civil rights, a problem my entire life, never solved. Fat ol’ Scump’s not a problem solver, he’s a problem maker. He’ll make problems for the duration of his entire term. Scump’s boomers own all of the problems.

Robot Bender's avatar

Assuming that he leaves power at the end of his term. I wouldn't bet on that.

Marge Wherley's avatar

Trump has his share of Boomers but Steven Miller, Steve Bannon, Elon Musk, JD Vance….

Becky Daiss's avatar

I won't be shocked when he issues a proclamation reinstating slavery.

Robot Bender's avatar

A few southern pols have floated the idea.
