Judd! Thanks for your work on this, and glad Bari & CBS had the good sense to correct an egregious reporting of calculated misinformation… although an apology + full retraction of the initial report would have been better.

CBS sees the market in "televised hate" collapsing, as having so many "hate services" no longer meets true demand.

They don't care about anything except market share, Larry, but you know that. But even a little is better than nothing.

MUCH better.....

Oh no no no…Ellison cares about Israel. Israel, Israel, ISRAEL! And of course his billions are buying Rump and other politicians for that cause. Dems and Rethugs alike. I am sick of paying for the slaughter of the innocents in Gaza! Four years of this b.s.

Sonja's avatar

Not just the slaughtered....how many Palestinians are being subjected to torture and SA? All funded by the US tax dollars, and not a single word about it, anywhere. R**e is always weaponized, but especially so during times of war.

Mari Wilson's avatar

Absolutely correct, Sonja.

And the colonization of Palestine over the past many years...unbelievable! Look up aerial/satellite photos of the Israeli land grab that has occurred over time. It's mind blowing all they have taken.

"After inquiries from Popular Information, CBS News New York changed their story, but failed to include an editor’s note about the correction."

Good! Not perfect but still good! Keep holding their feet to the fire PI!!!

CBS News has lost all credibility as an ethical organization. To simply pick up a story from a known Right Wing propaganda source and disseminate it as "news" shows us exactly what they are: yet another shill of the Right Wing.

Bari Weiss was an opinion writer, not an investigative news journalist and reporter. The anti-Mamdani story aligned with her beliefs.

Anne Gayler's avatar

And my point is that someone's "beliefs" should not be presented as factual news, unless of course the intention was to mislead the public.

Mari Wilson's avatar

She’s a proud Zionist. And correct, zero news room experience. Ellison bought her little Subcrap (Substack) for $150,000,000 then installed her at CBS News. Another remorseless loyalist hack. I do not watch CBS anymore. I only watched 3 of their shows, but I can live without them.

NubbyShober's avatar

I grew up with 60 Minutes, and mourn its destruction at the hands of Bari Weiss.

Mari Wilson's avatar

Same here! When it was 1000% fact checked and a respected and reliable source of investigative reporting as well as interesting and fascinating stories.

After Colbert's cancelation I stopped watching CBS, but admittedly did come back to watch the shows with interesting and important topics. Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley, 60 Minutes and 48 Hrs. That's all I ever viewed on CBS anyway.

When they sacked Scott Pelley, that was the final straw. I refuse to watch ever again. Well, I may watch in the future, should sanity & integrity return.

NubbyShober's avatar

If it hadn't been for Judd's muckraking to expose Murdoch's Post making shit up, Bari would've been happy to let the anti-Mamdani slurring stand.

Which is why it's important to acknowledge that at least for now, Weiss isn't turning CBS into FOX News, but "FOX-lite." FOX would either have doubled down on sister Murdoch organization Post's fabrications; or just dropped the story altogether without apology, and moved on to another bit of made up nonsense. If Weiss tried that, she'd sink CBS News at an even faster clip.

Robertp123's avatar

Can we please create standards for network use of the title "News?"

Mari Wilson's avatar

Faux "News" is actually an entertainment channel. They are in no way certified as journalistic news.

They should have to have a bug in the corner of every broadcast, along with a periodic statement stating the same true disclosure in their continuous scrolll on the bottom of the screen.

Terry's avatar

I refer to them as faux noise because that's all they are. Noise that's false information. Faux noise seems to be the perfect adjective + noun for them. Works for me...lol

Way to move the needle, Judd!

We in this country have had enough toxic rhetoric, negative publicity and politicized hate speech. It’s long past time for us to come together as a nation of people who care - about each other, our country for which so many have fought selflessly and some have died, and about our legacy as human beings - and Americans.

Peter Schmitt's avatar

Well said and very well written, Linda. Succinct and with just the right amount of 'heart', in my opinion. I hope you won't mind if I copy and paste your comment to my family and friends who are not a part of Substack. - Pete

Linda Eriksson's avatar

Feel free to share my post, Peter.

Mari Wilson's avatar

Yes, well said, Linda! Or written 😘 . In just 18 months, Rump & Co. have destroyed our country. And our reputation around the world. The Dems have got to get some real strategy (and balls!) and turn this country around. I wish I could go to the DNC and give them a 5 minute talk on what Americans really want. And what they DON’T. I swear the establishment ones just refuse to listen!

Terry's avatar

I so agree. I watch a video on YouTube and am always astounded at the magas and their misinformation, outright lies and hatred towards others in the comments. I don't believe any of them research a thing on their own or have free will to think on their own. I don't know if I should laugh or berate the hell of them.

foofaraw & Chiquita(ARF!)'s avatar

So...

It's OK to vote for a known monster like Trump (for a second term), but not OK to vote for a person who voices more kindness and good ideas each day than Trump has in a lifetime.

It's becoming clearer just exactly what MAGA is meant to "accomplish".

Mark's avatar

Rupert Murdock, an immigrant, and his minions at FOX “Not-Really-News,” the Wall Street “Urinal,” and the NY “Post-it-Note” are responsible for the deep hatred of immigrants by the Republican base and the rise of Trump to power. They have corrupted the promise of freedom of the press by the constant drip, drip, drip of half-truths, misinformation and outright lies that has divided us as a nation. If any immigrant deserves to be detained in one of Trump’s deathtraps before being deported it is Murdock.

My acquaintances in the Midwest only watch Faux News, and they firmly believe Mamdani is the devil incarnate. When I counter with facts, they just say that's not what they're hearing and that I should watch other news besides what I'm watching. At that point, the back and forth gets ridiculous, if not argumentative; so I give up.

Mari Wilson's avatar

So frustrating. But that’s what propaganda is designed to do. And it has worked unfortunately.

NubbyShober's avatar

Coming from a conservative family, the best results discussing RW talking points with conservative family/friends--especially when heavily outnumbered at a family gathering--is to start asking questions:

"What's so bad about Mamdani, exactly?"

"Well, he's a Socialist."

"You mean like the folks that run Canada, or England, or Germany, or France? Those kind of Socialists?"

If they answer Yes, you can school them on the positives of life in the Socialist EU, like Single Payer, paid family leave, free college/votech, etc.

The idea is to draw them out on their recent FOX-infused programming. Which also gives you more opportunity to select which FOX points you want to rebut. Keep it fun. Keep it light. Draw them into areas where you know your facts.

Judd, PI Great reporting can bring change and All who contributed Larry, Adam,Anne, and Linda …Spot On!

Tom's avatar

I've supported PI from the start. Still love seeing you shift the public narrative, back to reality, on a regular basis. Thank you. This is invaluable

Katy Bolger's avatar

I recall from your reporting that CBS News and CBS News New York claim to be two different entities and that it was the latter that aired the spurious claims. Bari Weiss has nothing to do with CBS News NY and they, in their false and misleading reporting, are responsible for this shoddy reporting. Is this correct? Nowhere in the PI reporting is Bari Weiss mentioned. I think we should get this straight. There are plenty of reasons to vilify Weiss but I believe other people are responsible for the decision to run the Post version. Can PI put a name (not a spokesperson but a decision maker) to that person who made that horrible decision? New Yorkers deserve to know who did that.

NubbyShober's avatar

Weiss's fingerprints may be totally absent from this particular crime scene. Or not. But her local *Editors,* whether directly hired by Weiss's team, or simply trying to not get fired by Weiss for failing to validate FOX News-ish blather like the faux 9/11 victim's families petition, are editing the "news" in ways that will please Weiss and the Ellisons.

Judd, among others, has written about how newsroom editors and writers alike, will self-censor or tailor reporting to please management.

Especially a Post story claiming *hundreds* of 9/11 families signed this anti-Mamdani petition. That after further reporting has dropped to less than a *dozen.* Or even half a dozen? Either way, thanks to Judd, journalistic decency has won. This round, anyway.

Katy Bolger's avatar

The first Post headline said "thousands of families sign petition..." So that was just as stanky as it gets. And the Post was once the coolest newspaper. I mean Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill cool. Then the slimy Aussie (they hate him too) bought it and continued his power trip.

I want to know who is in charge at CBS News New York, whether or not they are supplicant to Bari "big cheese" Weiss (another stinky situation). I say name names. Tell them who is delivering shoddy, lazy and damaging journalism on their local airwaves.

For New York, 9/11 was not "like a movie."

Mari Wilson's avatar

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. Thanks for bringing it up.

Zoe's avatar

Well done Popular Information. Bravo!

Bon's avatar

Your reporting and meticulous research, searching for facts, are exactly what this country desperately needs. It has been sorely lacking by so-called "journalists" and shines a spotlight on what can happen when the MSM is taken over by liars and haters. Please dont ever stop.

Elana's avatar

Another win PI team! It must get exhausting having to prove them wrong.

I am curious of those families who oppose Mamdani, how many are benefiting from the changes happening in the city??

NubbyShober's avatar

After more investigation, the "hundreds" of 9/11 families signing the petition, has dropped to like four or five.

The point being that--thanks to Judd--Murdoch's Post got caught out doing what they do every day. And not even Bari Weiss would back their play.

This time.

Great job! Hard work persistence and high standards for the WIN

Virginia Whitney's avatar

Perhaps mentioning that the 9/11 attacks were conducted by Saudis and Trump is arranging to give Saudi Arabia our "blessing" to build nuclear capabilities. Just saying...

We will take this as a “win!”
