I assume someone, maybe the ACLU, will sue over the new affidavit. Requiring citizens to hire an attorney to interpret Florida law seems like an undue burden, and it’s clearly meant to discourage people from exercising their right to vote.

Who is surprised by the revelation that this was all more performative BS from and for the RW crowd to, as Judd so deftly illustrates, feed into the "election integrity" fallacy being bandied about by those who know better, but want the advantage this posturing brings, especially since the gullible and gulled RW crowd eat this shite up and support it with well worn but legal currency!

No matter how they slice it, no matter how they try to break it down, this is voter suppression, period. Full stop. Another brick in the wall of the city of Gilliad they are building brick by brick, stone by stone, right here before our eyes.

Vote like you know that your very life is on the line. Because it is.

I couldn't imagine pretending to care about democracy while simultaneously trying to ruin someone's life simply for voting. Especially if my own administration was responsible for all of the confusion and caused these people to think that they were eligible. DeSantis is truly the scum of the earth and I hope he never gets anywhere near the White House...

DeSantis is encouraging racism when he arrests African Americans for voting when they received a voter’s registration card. I believe that DeSantis is hoping to imprison them for 5 years.

At the same time, elderly white republicans in The Villages have been proven to commit voter fraud. Their punishment is some community service and a short period of probation.

The difference is that there was NO INTENT on the part of the African Americans to commit voter fraud. There WAS INTENT on the part of the white voters in The Villages.

Would this not be a case for the DOJ?

When state & federal MAGAs engage in or try to engineer systemic election frauds, the state would arrest individuals who were issued voter ID cards is sickening. That any prosecutor would continue this abuse of fundamental justice is an outrage.

MAGAs lie & project: ever the depraved criminal sociopaths...fraudsters, mobsters obstruct & distract ...Cheney:“(Reps) who are defending the indefensible..when (Trump) is gone your dishonor will remain.”

Our future is under attack & has been for years. Republicans have gained enough power to thwart the proper rule of law & righting their wrongs is far slower than their dismantling. Something drastic must be done before it’s all irreversible

Inasmuch as I hate to say it, our republic's days as a democratic republic are numbered. Extremist on both sides desire one party or one leader rule. It is now a race between the Socialists and Fascists and the Fascists are winning. Our country's government will resemble that of Russia and Hungary at some point in the near future.

Convictions are only icing on the cake. This was more a scare tactic and a play to the base. Those arrested are perp-walked, thrown in jail and forced to go through the criminal justice system that is stacked against the poor. Convictions aren't really necessary for RDS plan to be effective.

Government of the right wing whackos, for the right wing whackos and by the right wing whackos.

I agree. Like Trump’s effort to get a media bite from Zelensky about Hunter Biden, the immediate attention-getting news flash is the point. I wouldn’t be surprised if his office set up these people by directing that they be issued voting cards. Even if the arrested voters are exonerated, the damage is done, and for DeSantis, mission accomplished.

If you want to see actual crime in action look no further than the Republican Party. They’re projectionists. They’re crime-ing right out in the open yet few seem to make the connection. The crime wave is not on the ground among citizens (nationally crime is down statistically by over 40% since 2000, tho your local result may vary) nearly as much as it’s in the GOP State & Federal Houses, City Halls, Police Depts, anywhere the scent of power is in the air. This is the same routine Trump used to get elected. And how’d that work out? He’s far and away the worst criminal ever. Right in front of your nose.

"They're projectionists." I've thought about this a lot. If you look at their attack rhetoric as a whole, it's basically all projection. They get out ahead of the narrative with their lies, and then it's monumentally harder to disprove the lies than it is to merely explain the truth in the first place.

"...If someone tells you that you are eligible to vote, you must rely upon your own independent knowledge (as informed by your own attorney if applicable) of your individual circumstances, and not upon the advice of any third parties who may be incorrect or unqualified to interpret your eligibility."

So you're saying that even if the State or local officials tell them it's OK for them to vote, that doesn't count??? How the heck are they supposed to determine if they're eligible if they can't use the services that are supposed to keep records of this sort of thing? Who are these "third parties" whose advice you cannot take re your voting eligibility? ANYONE or ANYTHING counts as a third party "who may be incorrect". Signing this statement is asking the signee to do the impossible.

DeSantis is a racist bully, and a sadistic person. Arrests 20 people out of 22 million to show how powerful he is and to make people doubt the value of their vote and the election process. Using law enforcement for his power plays is disgusting! He needs to go to jail!

I agree with Adam, vote like your life depends on it. Keep speaking up, taking action, making noise!

Everyone is equal and democracy will prevail!

How could the new Florida affadavit for persons on probation be attacked in court? A challenge like that ought to be crowd-funded.

Seems like a textbook case of "void for vagueness," to this non-lawyer at least.

Boy, I wish that this could turn the tide in Florida. I hope that Crist's campaign is pounding and pounding on this. DeSantis could care less about any of this except to the extent that he can try to make a campaign issue out of it.

My comment is related to whats happening in Florida but it is tied to something bigger. Have you heard of Paul Valelly. He is a retired major general whose specialty was disinformation/psy-ops. I have read stuff about his willingness to do whatever is necessary to create a Christian nation. What DeSatan is doing is a psy-op...both ex-military. Any thoughts???

Judd,

Perhaps it might be time to think about looking at the numbers of followers and ask if they would be interested in creating an alternative social platform Perhaps a 501c(3). Heck, if Idiot Trump and associates can put a platform together? He had greed and dark money to support his endeavor which is easier to cultivate... although we have truth, honesty, integrity, some lists containing like minded individuals and entities, logic, a positive vision of the possible future...and more. I know very little about the mechanics of such a creation although I suspect other followers do. I myself would be happy to pay X number of dollars per month to know that my information is secure, I would have a safe place to go online, where I could deal with responsible advertisers, readers and contributors. Facebook is invasive along with Tik Tok which is at best absurdly trite and childishly additive, and Twitter has become playground for... anti everything. Meanwhile all are reaping many $'s in the name of free speech while pandering to those that don't know any better or have little in the way of options as to where to go.

I have to assume that there is value in truth, facts, intelligent & thoughtful dialogue, accountability and positive evolutionary thought with an optimistic option of a voyage into the future. Perhaps a conversation with another media outlet such as the Atlantic or any of the more responsible reporting/news outlets might allow for a merger of resources to perform a startup. Marketing is key along with support from like minded funding and non funding entities.

I think it would be great to have a secure worldwide platform dedicated to reasonable dialogue and transfer of valuable information, with responsible targeted or searchable advertising from qualified companies who meet reasonable qualifications. I spend way to much time daily sifting through the internet in search of products and information that is believable while at the same time being bombed by nonsensical BS. I don't have the time and it cost me plenty.

I am at your disposal if you are interested in exploring the option. My experience includes designing broad based marketing strategies, long and short term numbers budgeting, design and management of self supporting 5 to 500MM not for profit entities, corporate management, funding acquisition, to include service, production, and acquisition startups.

I don't have much in the way of free time but...I can at least contribute some ideas if wanted.

That sounds great. I don't know much about setting that type of thing up but I am a trained and experienced voice actor, as well as a decent writer. Perhaps some use could be found for my talents, meager as they are. I would like to help!

I think your input could certainly be of value. What we need is a few more that know about the nuts and bolts of how and with funding from an angel group and 6 months of getting the hardware and software assembled along with another few months of licensing, we might be up and running within 12 to 18 months and self sufficient in another 36?
