Hegseth is using the math formally taught at Trump University, so how he gets this figure is similar to how Trump’s weight is calculated.

NubbyShober's avatar

Hegseth learned math during his time at FOX News. Where a $30 billion pricetag makes Trump2 and the GOP look *less* stupid.

The MSM *already* reported that Hegseth had earlier asked for $200 billion for the war. They also reported on Trump2 asking for an extra $300 billion for the military in the next budget.

They also know that *everything* said by Trump or his Cabinet, is either fully or partially bullshit. And yet there's not a peep of incredulity over Heggie's lowball estimate.

The MSM are either as dumb as a bag of rocks; or intentionally softballing on Heggie's insanely lowballed costs.

Back to Trump on April 26th:

"We cannot afford child care. We cannot afford Medicare. We cannot afford health care or Medicaid. We need to fund the military."

JenneJ's avatar

Whoa...where was he when he said this?

Here is NBC reporting:

I plotzed when I heard this. I said then and I will say it again: Put this on billboards in RED STATES right now. Keep those billboards up for three years.

Best if they were electronic billboards with subtitles.

JenneJ's avatar

Do you think I should start a GoFund Me page? Maybe we could raise enough money to run a billboard campaign in oct. right before the election?

Reporters at most major media outlets today are stenographers, not journalists. Another consequence of Trump/MAGA flooding the zone with lies. Thank you for your journalism.

Really Mr Hurst, Mr Undersecretary, sir? “We don’t know what our future posture will be. We don’t know how to construct those bases.” WHAT? Are you kidding me? Everything of value I OWN is insured to a schedule of cost. If my house burns down, I know what I’ll get to rebuild. And I know I will rebuild because I know what my “posture will be”. You want me to believe that the largest and most well funded military in the whole fucking world that I have helped fund my whole American adult life does not have a fucking clue about the military worth and financial value of its bases or how to rebuild them?

Clowns with blow torches. Thats all they are. Clowns with blow torches.

To quote Ripley in Aliens-

“All this? All this you think is so important? You can kiss this all goodbye”.

JenneJ's avatar

I believe the reference here is to the projected future reliance on ai enhanced drone weaponry. Many of the physical base locations will not be rebuilt, nor will SM-6s replace the SM-2's as suggested in this article. Hegseth is saying, we're moving in a completely different direction and what that will look like and how much it will cost is unclear. I would like him to be more open about that, but understand the security concerns for not spelling it out, and I can appreciate that they have no idea how much ai-drone technology or the Golden dome will cost, but we can all agree it will cost a lot. And the Ripley quote still holds true.

The golden dome is corruption wrapped in an evil lie.

I noticed that the mainstream media was using the $25-30B after I read your report. I also noticed none of them were talking about the additional uncalculated damage of American bases and assets in the Mideast. I wondered why. After all, there are still some elder journalists who actually remember the Vietnam War debacle that went on and on, and was exposed as massive amounts of lies and coverups told to the American people by the Nixon administration. And yet, remember, Nixon was reelected on the phrase: "I have a secret plan to end the war". Well, fool me once, et cetera...

That institutional knowledge (which can be found in history books and archives) is priceless but I wonder, now that I think about it, doesn't the NYT have a maximum age of 65 to work there? Or is that for editors? I think that is a shame because those of us who get to live long lives, we remember. We were there. Now we see history repeat itself but even worse, so much worse now.

The media has stopped using the word “agreement” for agreements between countries and says “deals.” Language influences how we think about things. A “deal” is a short term transaction. An “agreement” implies a longer term relationship. Our language is being Trumpified without us noticing.

As usual, precise and disturbing.

Somewhere north of $29B, perhaps $99B, plus the cost at the pump, fertilizer, transportation ,etc. That’s ok we have no needs here in US… people, infrastructure etc. We had the big beautiful bill so the money is in the hands of those 1% who really need it… and the national debt no longer counts when republicans are in control! Just a little SNAFU, things will be well shortly. Thank you for your attention!

Lies. All lies from liars. The non-objective media is complicit. The Secretary is an incompetent alcoholic. Who’s taking numbers from Mr. pickled liver? His own mother knows he’s garbage, so do we.

The cost of replacement interceptors is going up from 1.2 M to 6.3M. The drones are new technology and like all new technologies they get better and cheaper. The missile defense system is doomed like the farm horse, the landline telephone booth, or set of encyclopedias. All were made obsolete by the tractor, cell phone, and Wikipedia.

Even if their number was right, $30B is a load of money for an unwanted, unnecessaey, unauthorized, objectiveless war that's done nothing but get soldiers and civilians killed, worsen international stability and worldwide costs. The party that bitches about every million or so here or there to feed, house or provide medical care to those who need it, blows through billions in months blowing things up to accomplish nothing at all. Idiotic and wasteful.

Joseph McPhillips's avatar

Defense secretary, Hegseth acknowledged on questioning by Senator Kelly that the cost of replacing expended munitions exceeds $320 billion dollars.

Denise Wallace's avatar

That 29 billion has been kicked around for awhile. And you are correct- every legacy media I read repeated the same amount .
