Yesterday, Popular Information published an in-depth investigation on the corporate cash behind the Georgia legislators pushing voter suppression legislation.
I'm confused. How does adding a photo ID to an absentee ballot work? I mean, I take a photo of my DL and include it in the envelope with the ballot. How does that add any level of security, unless the voter rolls start including photos. And if it adds no security, what does it even do?
I already know the answer: makes it harder for poor people to vote. But I still don't get what the surface justification is.
Excellent question. And that is my question as well. If a person does not have "proper/official" picture ID for in person voting, they certainly don't for mail-in.
Also, mailing in copies of ID is exactly the kind of move that would have anti-identity theft experts aghast. I mean, seriously, you are sending off everything an ID thief needs in one little, nicely gift-wrapped package with a bow on top. A big envelope clearly labeled as a ballot. Why not just put a big, glowing label on it saying: "ID thieves, take me! Please!"

Dumb.
