So, they'll make a whole ad trying to smear James Talarico, but when asked about it, they won't comment on it or quietly make it inactive. Seems to me like if their claims were remotely true, they'd stand ten toes down and defend them.

The sheer level of dishonesty from these people is breathtaking. And they have the gall to call themselves *Christian,* even as they lie through their teeth. And regarding *Talarico,* one of the few authentically Christian political candidates in the entire country.

Christian theology holds that there's a special place in hell reserved for religious hypocrites. Who lie, cheat and steal six days running. Then affect piety in church on Sunday.

Paul St.Onge's avatar

YES! One of the main reasons why I don’t belong to an “organized religion” anymore. They are full of hypocrites!

I sure do wish that these false christians would stop trying to enforce their wacko ideas on the rest of us.

I f they really followed the man called Christ, they would not be dictating how others must live.

Thanks for your work. They took it down!

So, time to make the republicans "inactive" by voting them out in November.

Register and vote early.

Karen D's avatar

Technically, they're already "inactive."

Here in Ohio my Youtube feed is inundated with digital ads ominously warning me that Sherrod Brown supports sex change surgeries for kids. Must have seen fifty of them. I believe this is their nationwide strategy against Democratic senatorial candidates. They're quite happy to lie their way into power.

Ann Sharon's avatar

I’ve seen them and others on TV for a while now. And yet Sherrod Brown consistently across reputable polling remains in the lead. I hope it is accurate and the real poll on Election Day bears it out.

But I can’t help but wonder if the approach of lies using fear like a sledgehammer have less of an audience these days. They aren’t addressing voters’ main concerns. Brown is a known entity as is Roy Cooper who they’ve tried to smear with the same result.

I think the general public is starting to smell the Republican desperation, and it stinks to high heaven. It's important to remember that the Republicans have ZERO accomplishments on behalf of their voters that they can point to as reasons to keep them in office. Most people would put up with a few trans neighbors and DEI in the military and their local stores, if it meant they could afford to buy fuel, buy groceries, pay their electric bill, and feel as if their opinion about whether or not a data center gets built across the street from their houses would matter.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Yes and I doubt most of them know a trans person. For all those reason the GOP took a long time to come up with this ‘strategy’ and its content to define their opponents. By then the Dem candidates had established their identities and the issues.

When drumpf ran in 2024 he tied everything to the cost of living. His message almost 100% of the time it was corrupt Dems and immigrants picking your pocket & making you unsafe. It ran the gamut from housing to groceries to (fake) crime.

They can’t run on any of it now with the GOP totally in charge of the gov’t. All the stuff people are mad about they see in their communities and bank accounts. No news media needed for that.

William Greenberg's avatar

From my observations, they have a multi-point strategy: a percent here and there from the ads we're discussing; a percent or two from removing polling places; a percent or two from voter ID laws; a few percent from removing people from rolls; one or two from ICE intimidation (if they go through with it) and finally, a percent or two through outright fraud, stealing, altering vote counts or packing the ballot boxes. (The Election Truth Alliance has done careful statistical analysis the has turned up significant evidence of such fraud.)

Critical electoral constests are being decided be a few thousands of votes. They don't need to steal all of what they need from one spot.

Ann Sharon's avatar

Most of these things TX does every election like closing & moving polling places, purging / suspending voters. This year it expanded. The TX big plan, redistricting, imploded because voters dissatisfaction and concerns changed.

I try to pay zero attention to the Election Truth Alliance & anyone else who uses algorithms to say votes didn’t reflect human behavior. Without fail they then proceeds to create a complex theory around their “concerns”. IMO it is a bogus approach that relies on narrowly tailored assumptions about voter behavior.

William Greenberg's avatar

They (ETA) use statistical evidence that spots potential anomalies in voting patterns that point to evidence (not proof) of fraud.

In the cases I've seen, they only called for further investigation, but were stonewalled. I simply assume that this sort of actual fraud is part of Republican strategy because they show no evidence of having any ethics at all.

Texas is almost like a test case for a lot of these maneuvers. Here in Ohio, LaRose (as well as Husted) has copied a number of them.

An Trump 2024 campaign ad returns, now paid for by taxpayers in flagrant violation of federal laws.

Trump self enrichment, emoluments violations & institutionalization of kleptocracy.

How much grifting & fraud is too much?

“Have you no shame?” Simply a rhetorical question these days. Despicable lies, mistruths and deceptions…

I'd love someone to stand up at one of these hearings and say, "You HAVE no decency!!"

Not surprising that they would accuse Talarico of arresting parents. It's a familiar tactic. In 2022 AG Paxton stated (an opinion) that allowing minors to receive transition care such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery is child abuse under state law.

At the same time, Abbott tasked licensed professionals who work with children — including teachers, nurses and doctors — and “members of the general public” with reporting such claims. He added that state law “provides criminal penalties for failure to report such child abuse.” He also called on Child Protective Services to “conduct a prompt and thorough investigation” of any reported instances of minors undergoing “elective procedures for gender transitioning: at the same time. All of this heavy handed abuse of the “law” terrorized families for political points with the base. None of them actually care about children.

Katy Bolger's avatar

This is a two-way street. Perhaps someone should report this woman for terrorizing her own children.

Great reporting and great follow up. Thank you Judd and team.

The only way Republicans can win is to lie and cheat. Period. Hard stop.

Katy Bolger's avatar

The only way for Republicans to win is to find those who are gullible, uneducated and naive enough to believe their lies. Cheating has its own parameters, many of them unlawful.

Anti-trans seems to be the Rs last ditch pitch. In AZ, Juan Ciscomani (R) in CD-06 has put up large yellow signs claiming his opponent, Joanna Mendoza (D) "Supports Guys in Girls' Sports."

Ciscomani voted with trump 100% of the time.

Katy Bolger's avatar

You just know one or more of her children are already gay. The mother of five claims her most important issue is her children but she sure wants to stick her nose into your family doesn't she? Religion has no place in politics and it seems to be the basis for all Republican ideology these days. DANGER.

Freddie Baudat's avatar

That was my thought, as well. Or another immediate family member. Maybe even herself. She’s on a mission to deny something.

Is there a reason that there isn’t a law in the books that make lying, dis and misinformation in political advertising illegal? That running these ads would result in massive fines?

A voting public that is, for the most, extremely naive (or uninterested) about how politics actually work and are primed to believe easily provable false snippets from their newsfeeds is who these ads, and many others, are aimed at and they will have an impact.

Take CA for instance, the hundreds of millions that have been spent to scare monger and misinform voters to defeat the billionaire tax and just in case approve 2 other props that’ll make taxing the rich that much harder are all now currently polling well. Propaganda works.

Mari Wilson's avatar

We need a law like that! And also, every ad that utilizes AI, MUST say so in it.

Cole in DC's avatar

I’d be more worried about the ads you can’t see at all.

Republicans have nothing to run on except insane lies about trans kids. It is heartbreaking that such a small minority of individuals have to deal with such "Christian" hatred.
