Military ground combat--firefights--are the ultimate and very lethal test of male vs. female athletic ability and emotional regulation. The US Army and Marines in particular, wrongly took the Jay Feely approach until fairly recently, banning women from all combat roles.
But the US military has now largely allowed women into nearly all combat roles. So what caused such a fundamental change?
The military's analysis of women's solid combat performances in Iraq and Afghanistan caused the change. They compiled literally *hundreds* of After Action Reports of women under fire, methodically taking out enemy combatants, protecting their comrades, and completing the mission. Because in a counterinsurgency there are no safe rear areas. So women drivers, cooks, mechanics, clerks, and military police were repeatedly thrust into life-or-death combat situations. And guess what? They did just as well as their male counterparts.
But misogyny is a core tenet of MAGA and the GOP. Any excuse to pay women less, promote them less, control their bodies, and shit-talk them. Feely's disdain and contempt of women should be no surprise.
Why is Jay Feely making "protecting women's sports" a priority for his campaign? I went to his official site, and I can tell you that he doesn't have much of substance to offer. A lot of it is boilerplate Republican rhetoric, especially on the economic front. Secure the border. Support Israel.

Healthy boy's teams are the SAME! If boys or men on a team don't give a sh_t about each other, and their coaches don't give a sh_t about them, the team generally performs poorly and gets worse over time as players come to blame each other for each and every mistake.

There are campaign signs all over Tucson corners, made for just that. Every corner is labeled with their signs in maroon, navy, and white, with no party affiliation written on them. Just like they won't associate with the president in public, they won't even claim their own party. One guy has a sign that adds "approachable".
It's creepy.
These signs are intended to dupe the public into thinking the names have credibility because they are on a sign that seems like it is everywhere. Creating confusion and showing the public a name should be the first big hint that these players will do nothing but take....take the water, the minerals, the wildlife, the workers...people will be paying gigantic prices for water if this sort of politician "fixes" this election.
This is the kind of candidate that we get when we vote for everything except what matters. We vote for the "survivor", we vote for the "voice", we vote for our favorite athlete, we vote for Miss America. What we don't vote for is war, peace, food security, health insurance. We are consumed by celebrity as if how fast you run, or act or throw a ball somehow makes you thoughtful, aware, or an influential. We live in scary times and we continue to celebrate people who are either pretty or athletic as if these traits have made them destined for leadership.
