The Census has been a nightmare. The door to door has yet to begin on our area. So easy to do it online and yet...

The divide is huge between those who understand it is in the Constitution and those who think the government is after their data and freedom.

Stupidity is killing America.

Trump is the biggest nightmare to roll down the bowling lane with his Striking efficiency at using the Executive Order. Congress as I said yesterday is powerless and the House wrings her hands in dismay.

In the midst of the chaos, he unleashed more Gestapo to the cities today.

Wow Judd you stand so close to the pulse of this country that it is fricking amazing.

Great job!

I get the distinct impression that the GOP wants to force the Dem House into using the "nuclear option". No, not impeachment. I mean the "withholding of funds" to various executive agencies to force their compliance with the law, e.g. withholding funds to force compliance with Congressional subpoenas. That would be a PR nightmare, though, and I think the Dems will hold off on that.

And there is the fast track executive order mechanism, whereby every exec order that Trump has signed in the last year (year?) can be almost instantly rescinded. That assumes, of course, that Trump and the GOP cannot actually retain the White House by force or vote-meddling.

I abhor these people and their need for power at any cost.

The GOP has been systematically destroying education since the 1980s

Expand full comment

The GOP's overall goals are to systematically destroy all federal institutions except infrastructure and the military, including ALL entitlements programs, including Social Security. They also want to eliminate every last labor protection and other aspects of FDR's New Deal and have desired to do so since the 1960s. If you have ever spent time in a former Soviet bloc country like I have, that's the future of America if things keep going this way: a country with crumbling infrastructure and little to no growth that is only nominally a democratic republic, run by corrupt, fascist autocrats, where you can never get anywhere unless you belong to the right ethnic group and you know the right people and grease the right palms.

Since so many politicians have already been bought by the Russian mob, it's going to be hard to dislodge them. They have zero allegiance to democracy.

I have not heard about "many [US] politicians...[being] bought by the Russian mob" except possibly Trump and his closest cronies, but Putin has definitely nearly run the Russian economy into the ground funding left and right wing extremists in Europe and the US, and continues to do so. His idea is to 1) create instability and draw attention away from his regime; 2) cause corruption and erosion of the public trust in these countries 3) in turn provides "evidence" for him to say to his populace, look at what a sham their democracies are, it doesn't work. This is all about Putin keeping power and making Russia into a superpower again. A few years ago in Bulgaria, Russia effectively installed a puppet government and there were daily protests in Sofia for a year. That government was eventually voted out but the Russian presence remains (see this - it's the same story https://www.euronews.com/2020/07/18/explainer-why-is-bulgaria-engulfed-in-daily-anti-government-protests), and these efforts have been particularly successful in Ukraine, Hungary, and Romania, somewhat so in the Netherlands (Geert Wilders), France (the LePens), Italy, Germany and in the Balkans. German Nazi activity has increased recently, and there is a de facto Nazi training camp in Russia where some extremist right wing Germans have been sending their sons (https://www.dw.com/en/german-neo-nazis-trained-at-russian-camps-report/a-53692907)
