So I’ve read 3 paragraphs and I wonder why ppl live in Florida? Old white ppl I understand, they care about their immediate needs and nothing else...too bad the death cult are trying to end their lives quicker... I digress, young ppl, women, family’s are getting screwed. Why? I’d rather live in a ditch in a state that actually does things to help me in my ditch! Just makes it hard to get out of bed when I read the article. Back at it...🤢

I agree w everything you said and it’s hard to see what that monster and his lackeys are getting away with. I’m an old white woman, but I still work here in Florida. My job and my husband’s business would not transfer to another locale. I have children and grandchildren here and can’t imagine my life without them near but still think about giving it all up to get the hell outta here. If desantis becomes President, I fear the future we all face. It’s very difficult to immigrate to Canada. I’ve checked.

I’m so sorry! My question was rhetorical but I do understand ppl can’t just up and move. I just ache for all the loving and caring ppl who live there! Deathsantis is a monster who cares nothing for anyone but white whiny men!

Precisely those 2 elements. The real question is "why do people choose to MOVE there?"

The weather, and it's cheaper than a lot of places elsewhere. I hate hot weather, cockroaches and Republicans, not necessarily in that order, so I'll stay in NY.

I want to be close to my family, otherwise I would retire somewhere in New England. I love seeing the seasons change, hate big cities and love peace and quiet. I couldn't live in a warm place after spending 6 years in Egypt. The heat there was just too much. I felt ill by the time 5:00 pm rolled around, I despise having to fight cockroaches and although I enjoy a good strong thunderstorm (and basically, Cairo had almost no rain and only one thunderstorm during the years I lived there), I do not enjoy hurricanes and tornadoes. NY is hardly the cheapest place, but my family is what matters to me. One of my high school friends retired to South Carolina, which has been clobbered by politics and by horrendous weather ever since they moved there.

I have a relative in a mixed-race marriage who is making plans to move there NOW!!! Yes, their children are all grown and that but they don't seem to see that their actions, should they choose to move there, support this madness!

And they get news like everyone else so it's not like they are unaware of current events.

That’s sad. They are choosing to become a part of this craziness.

Yes, although I had not mentioned that specific topic, climate change, in the famous words of Willie Nelson, is "always on my mind."

I think Florida's reputation as a good place to retire will continue until there are a few more Cat 5 hurricanes making landfall in the area. My former in-laws spent their winters in Zephyrhills only to be sitting inside their trailer home because of all the crocodiles everywhere eating up residents' dogs. All my in-laws ever did was stuff themselves at Duff's every night. They didn't hit the tourist spots or fish or take boat trips to Sanibel Island or the Keys.

The waterfront property values all over the US are still at their highest regardless of global warming. The prestige and glamor of owning waterfront real estate trumps everything.

Thank you, Jodi. People also have businesses or employment here that make it difficult to leave. People don't realize these things when they say, "why do people live there".

Unfortunately there are many (in many categories) who live in FL who LOVE DeSantis. I question their values--our country has mixed values--and education helps us to form higher values.

How can they not afford to move!?! Unless they are white their lives will be a living hell.

Didn't all of America see that very issue with Katrina? How soon we forget!
