It should not surprise us that what Elon Musk promotes in the larger scheme of life keeps exploding! Popular Information examines Elon Musk's true agenda brilliantly: not free speech but apartheid movement of racism typical of one raised with the South African culture. Remember Christopher Wray's earlier warning: "At today's hearing about Jan 6th, FBI Director Wray stated very clearly that white supremacy is the biggest terrorist threat in the country. He said white supremacy is a 'persistent, evolving threat' and the 'biggest chunk' of racially motivated violent extremism in the U.S." And, here's the richest man in the world, claiming to love America, advocating the same agenda on display in Charlottesville. Musk has had years to process this, and he makes it very clear that his agenda is bottom line anti-American.

You are right Valerie. Musk is anti-American, just as all t rump cultist are. The only thing Musk likes about America is his ability to use its freedom to make money. Free speech to Musk means agreeing with him. If you disagree with him you are not only against free speech but trying to destroy his free speech and destroy his ability to make money. Typical narcissistic behavior

I would love to be a fly on the wall of one of these corporations' meetings trying to decide how much white supremacy is too much before they even COMMENT on seeing their ads next to Nazi propaganda, let alone pulling them from Twitter. At least say you're reviewing the situation. Pathetic.

Kinda like in the 1850’s trying to decide how much slavery was ok.

Twitter is going to go bankrupt inside of 2 years since Musk bought it. We as a society need to stop looking to billionaires to make decisions on things. They are not smarter than everyone else. Musk simply gamed the system and had a rich father. That doesn't mean he's an expert on everything. He's proven this by buying and ruining Twitter.

Some of us think he intended to ruin Twitter or at least intended to turn it into a platform promoting fascism instead of democracy

Totally agree. Twitter was a bastion of resistance and one of the best places to get out the blue vote. He went to see Putin in the close weeks prior to his purchase and that spoke volumes to me.

Now X-Twitter is full of MAGA, Liars, Nazis, Bots and trolls. A half dozen new sites popped up and have fragmented the resistance. I have less than 100 followers on any of the other 3 I joined and none of them appeal to me like Twitter did.

He’s proven billionaires and multi-billionaires should not exist. They threaten democracy with buying power. And Musk is the ultimate tyrant.

Great reporting! My two cents to this story:

1. Why were those companies still advertising on Twitter? After all the fact that twitter is a cesspool is nothing new. And 2. This is by far not the first time Musk spreads antisemitism. Just the other month on Joe Rogan he went on a rant against George Soros filled with common but totally unproven accusations.

I can understand why the sports leagues and WSJ advertise on x.

“Free speech absolutist” BS. Poultry is just another name for chicken. The 1st Amendment DOES NOT PROTECT Hate speech that is incendiary, meant to foment violence and/or is libelous. Musk’s utter irresponsibility (because, assuming “rights” is assuming responsibilities implied by those rights) reveals he is ignorant of this constitution, this democracy--you know what? We should SEND HIM BACK.

I agree. Send this Democracy hater back to his homeland! Or outer space!

Apparently it’s hereditary.

“Historians note Musk's ideas that technology can solve most of society's ills reflect some of the same technocratic beliefs his grandfather promoted. Musk previously said on Twitter, now called X, that Mars should have an established technocracy.”

Musk strikes me as a hateful, bigoted, dangerous weirdo who's likely aligned with Russia and its allies and is working against US interests of freedom and democracy. The US government should stop doing business with him. Not rocket science.

Seems big rockets and free speech are both something Musk likes to explode. The ADL should not pander to him. Nor should the advertisers. He legitimizes the stance of those who post hate speech. Because he prowls X-Twitter, I get the real feeling he needs to pay more attention to his other businesses whose stockholders probably wish he would. BTW, The Saudis are the #2 stockholder in X-Twitter aren't they? Maybe MBS can start commenting as well...

Nice Reporting Judd.

When Comcast - considered by many to be the most hated company in America (a quick google will find many hits) - actually cares enough about its image to quit advertising on X (Twitter), it really says something.

Nothing like pointing our the hypocrisy that masquerades as freedom-loving liberal policies, by whomever it may be. Thanks, Judd.

When will everyone cancel their X accounts and let Musk just ‘talk’ to himself?

Right. I quit as soon as he took it over. I aver there is life after Twit-X.

Federal Court in San Francisco can process a filing electronically 24/7. The unfortunate attorney representing the Deranged DeBoer (hat-tip Popehat) knows this. The argument that my criticism of someone else's speech violates that person's rights is 1) deranged, 2) pernicious and 3) wrong. CA has strong anti-SLAPP laws, so hopefully Media Matters will weather whatever sh*t storm may be unleashed by the petulant apartheid promoter. X is well on its way to achieving its apparent goal of becoming a lower-rent Parler.

Big mistake of ADL to encourage Musk to label decolonization as genocide when it is actually colonization which is genocide. If the ADL wants allies they should be better allies. Thank you again for your good work of being an upstander for equality and justice for ALL of us. ❤️

Yes, he’s done little “clever” things in the past like saying he wasn’t “antisemite” he was “pro Semite.” It sucked in all the foolish people who don’t realize the term has been considered problematic for almost 100 years, is no longer used & have no clue who it includes.

Among modern Semites are Arabs, native Israelis, and many Ethiopians. It is doubtful he gives a fig about any of them.

He thrives on making obtuse comments, mockery and attention.

I’m still confounded that any of these companies has proof that participation in X translates into revenue growth or more market share. I’m convinced social media including X is the biggest scam ever. Does IBM, for example really think that some utterance on X results in a multimillion dollar transaction? Bwaahaha!

I think advertising on X is driven by FOMO and for that these comments leadership should be terminated.

Excellent report, Judd. Keep calling himout.

I will add that I find the conflation of the terms “white” and “Christian” (but not Jewish) troubling as well as baffling. The semantics are the core of the problem, since “white” is only an approximate term, and largely conceptual rather than descriptive.

The ADL is too headache. I think they have no business praising Musk or Twitter for anything thanks.

Expand full comment

Yes, quite militant, nationalistic and narrowly focused what appears to advance their narrative. It is quite adept at propaganda does not allow other voices willingly. I feel certain Musk knows he can play them.

The Nation pointed out regarding praise of Musk:

“But Greenblatt has long been of two minds about Musk, occasionally chiding him in (as in the above tweet), but also trying to gain Musk’s favor. A perverse example of this came last year when he bizarrely extolled Musk as “an amazing entrepreneur and extraordinary innovator. He is the Henry Ford of our time.” Henry Ford was, as Greenblatt strangely seems to have forgotten, a notorious anti-Semite and fascist fellow traveller.”
