All we need to know is that the Magic is owned by the DeVos family, a family of far right wing activists who made their money from the pyramid scheme known as Amway. One more reason to stay out of Florida, and one more reason never to see the Orlando Magic play in person or on TV.

Damn, didn’t know that

You know Betsy DeVos was in orange menace’s cabinet, right? Looong history of nastiness in that family, and her brother is Erik Prince! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Prince

Expand full comment

Indeed she was a menace to education in America, despised by many when she was part of trump'$ administration. Didn't her brother make billions off the Iraq "war" until he sold his company? Or am I confusing him with another scoundrel?

Spot on, and you nailed it!! Erik Prince—should be incarcerated.

that's no B.S. betsy is as full of B.S.as her brother is. but she dos'nt have as much money as him-----------SO WHAT she's still a creep!!!

Oh, the headlines during Betsy DeVos' time in Trump's Cabinet, wreaking havoc on public education and educators. Couldn't stop watching Randy Rainbow's hysterical parody then and now. https://www.advocate.com/comedy/2019/4/02/randy-rainbow-sings-cruella-devos-youre-going-hell

I remember Erik and Betsy very well. Rich, evil and waiting in the wings

Thank you for doing the behind-the-scenes work to reveal the ugly truth. The DeVos family? Say no more. What hypocrisy!

The DeVoss family owns the Orlando Magic? This I did not know. Man, I love Kevin Butler and wish the Bulls had kept him but he plays for the Magic owned by DeVoss & Co.

I refuse to support their hate-filled agenda of religiosity leavened with insanity. Sorry.

No More Magic!

Let’s not forget to point out the hypocrisy of the far right here. They won’t drink Bud Light anymore but as soon as a a company who claims to support the LGBTQ+ community comes with a suitcase full of cash they have no problem accepting it. If DeSantis PAC really believed their homophobic stance was appropriate they would not accept the money, nor would they take the endorsement of anyone related to the team. It just proves that the far right extremists know that they are wrong but create a phony anti “woke” agenda to keep their racist, homophobic base engaged.

And remember, Betsy DeVos was secretary of education under Trump. Not good people.

DeVoss is a horribly bad simulacra, not a person at all.

Wow! From his bio, a real moral, upstanding guy. Then again, it depends on what your measuring stick for values are.

So your young wife is dying of cancer & you have an affair with the nanny? Must have been " love"? He married her at least...adhering to his newly acquired set of catholic values AND A TRUMP SUPPORTER TOO! Now that's putting your money & your "values" ( or lack thereof) where your mouth is.

Yet another reason to be disappointed in the state of Florida.

I lived there 20 years & the reasons I left have been magnified a 100x's since DeSantis took office. More reasons not to set foot back there, even as the casual tourist.

it took you a loooooog time to learn about Florida, this place SUCKS and I drove a Truck thru there (18 wheeler) and did not go back ! Florida is for losers like Ron DUMBsantas !!!!!!!!

Florida in 86, wasn't as crowded, nor water & heat as much of an issue & all the political idiots hadn't quite come out of the box. Schools were beginning to improve..contrary to current status, if current governor " El Diablo" has his way. I also had a husband to consider, who today is enjoying a 30 year pension (well..both of us, a state away); albeit I beat it out of Florida & bought a 2nd home twelve years before he left Florida. You could see the future & imo, it wasn't good..including an increase in hurricane activity & strength. I took a position that doubled income. It all made sense to me/ us.

Disgusting. As a former Amway suckered, I am not surprised. The Devos, like the Kochs are CONServative fakes. They are might is right types. They got the might so they determine the right.

Well, that makes 'cents'. Disgusting, again. The DeVos family, no words. Owners v. players. Reminds me of the Roman Coliseum days... I would like to say more, but it would be brutally honest and I don't think people can handle that anymore. smh

Playing both sides of the fence to ensure they have influence no matter which way the wind is blowing. Clear indication Magic - but really the owner - have no morals, ethics or empathy, just status, tax breaks and bank accounts to protect.

All of this recent reporting (thank you, PoPInfo!) about republican culture hate mongering for votes against LGBTQ+ folks, Black folks, poor folks, immigrants, etc., really makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with Log Cabin (gay) Republicans, Black Republicans, Poor Working Class Maga people who constantly vote against their own interests, health care, etc., and long time immigrant-Americans, all who vote against their own brothers and sisters. They've got theirs and want no others to thrive in the same way they have.

The human species cannot help themselves and refuse to evolve. We might be able to make smart widgets, but we're not really very smart at all.

I know right? Republican "culture" fanning the flames of opposition to "LGBTQ+ folks, Black folks, poor folks, immigrants, etc."

Why would anyone side with those who would eradicate them! Why? For the sake of their bank balances, these sheep would lay down with wolves? Is that what it is?

What does the NBA Commissioner have to say about this? Does he support the persecution of gay folks? If so, he should declare it publicly and have the NBA be identified as a hate group

Let's see if he makes a fawning public statement only to have Judd & crew catch him supporting DeathSentence too.

DeVos never met a fascist he didn't love. They are lying scum. Their wealth is based on ponzi schemes. Horrible people, horrible family.

Why is it when people get rich (no matter how), they then think that their wealth allows them to "buy" the social and political changes that they want? They get to thinking that somehow being rich they can now impose the social changes that they want with money. We are still having this battle in our democracy where people, not money, determine what kind of country we want to be. Money does not "buy" most of the things we need most—peace, opportunity, good intentions, friendship, etc., but it sure does screw up all of the things listed above.

My stance on DeSantis & anyone supporting him as governor & his bid for president, has not changed. IMO, A despicable human being, who according to " friends" from his college days, was an arrogant man who always thought he was the smartest guy in the room. He'll destroy Florida ( and the tourism industry), IGNORE CLIMATE CHANGE & THE ABOVE 100 DEGREE WATER TEMPS; ignore the insurance catastrophe to come due to increasing hurricane activity and given his homophobic, anti- education (terms of teachers/ students not exercising critical thinking), anti Disney agenda there, would probably do the same in destroying diversity to the rest of the country, in my opinion, if elected president.

We'd likely find us all heading rapidly towards " Handmaiden" territory, where diversity & critical thinking would be ruthlessly rooted out & women would find themselves in the roles as breeders, caretakers.& ornaments on the arms of powerful men..circa 1950's style..or worse.

Sound far fetched? Orwell 1984 "ain't" seen nothing. All it takes is a dark vision & the funding of " conservative" republican gray haired billionaires/ millionaires to fund it.
