If "seeking to eliminate undeserved disadvantages for selected groups” is prohibited, then I’m guessing that seeking to preserve such disadvantages must be what they are after.

I wonder if there could or should be another unintended consequence to this law just like their ill-fated Disney bashing attempts. What if colleges and universities around the country started saying that incomplete social studies curriculums would count against applicants.

Tell me you live in a third world-two bit autocracy without telling me you live in a third world -two bit autocratic country. The “low bar” is a myth we indulge in for the GOP. It should be obvious the “new word” they envision: one helpless against being plundered by them.

I live in Palm Beach County. Most of the people that I speak with do NOT support DeSantis or his horrific policies. Florida teachers earn some of the lowest salaries in the country. Many teachers I speak with are finding that it is just not worth staying in the profession due to DeSantis’ executive orders. Many are talking about quitting or retiring this year. Once gone, difficult to replace. Seems many of the networks concentrate on the extreme views of people that show up for school board meetings. Obviously, that is not the majority view. For those that suggest Floridians get out and vote, people might want to check out how DeSantis has redrawn congressional districts. I am no longer sure of my congressional district and information is not available on Palm Beach County Election office website.

Every week DeSantis implements a new policy. This week, it seems that he will concentrate on building up a 400 man army for Florida, which will not be under federal laws. Note that DeSantis replaces experienced and educated federal workers with uneducated sycophants.

Thank you to Judd for keeping everyone informed.

The DeSantis regime is literally opposing "social justice." Let that sink in.

Textbook censorship by a neofascist, DeSantis puppet committee supports a white nationalist agenda of disenfranchisement and racist hatred sponsored by the GOP. It is cynical, disingenuous, and highlights Florida's state-level institutional corruption under Scott and DeSantis. Poor, poor, morally and ethically filthy Florida.

A problem with this is that school population-wise Florida and Texas control the content in all or most published textbooks, imposing their perspectives on the rest of the country.

Judd - Thank you for another insightful analysis of a troubling situation. The true victims here are the students in Florida. May God help them, and may the ballot box lead to constructive change.

Just got out of FL, thank the Powers That Be, after living there over 2 decades. In so many ways the state government makes it the sewer of the country.

The true purpose of our public schools is to prepare students so they can become productive and informed citizens. That means they must be taught ALL history and about all types of governments so we have a voting populace that can make reasonable decisions and not fall prey to false rhetoric that is becoming so prevalent especially in the light of the [modern day] internet and the speed of how bad information is spread.

If they are too dumb to sort out the grain from the chaff, so to speak, then we'll have just what the bigots in this country want-- an ignorant block of voters that are neither informed with facts nor are willing to even accept [any] facts as facts and fall into the rabbit hole of lies that has become so popular thanks to TFG and his minions.

That's it, nothing more, nothing less...

If you can’t teach about "seeking to eliminate undeserved disadvantages for selected groups,” you can’t teach about abolition, the emancipation proclamation, or the women’s suffrage movement. You could teach the battles of the civil war, but not why there was one.

Desantis is a white supremacist and a misogynist. It's crystal clear.

Hillsdale College in MI keeps coming up in any article about education. How does IT get to be the arbiter for or against issues - they are a fundamentalist right wing christian school that thinks it owns interpretation of anything other than white christian evangelical teachings. Stop using their biased interpretations as a fair opposing view!

As reprehensible as all of this is, I’ll be a broken record with my opinion that the only people who can change this are the parents of Florida school children who disagree with it. Whether they do so through the courts or by voting DeSantis out, they and their allies are the only answer. One of Ari Melber’s guests last night was Julian Epstein who said the current law has a lot of support “on the ground” in Florida, though I don’t know if that’s accurate for the majority of parents.

Florida appears to be a training ground for how much censorship the people will put up with. It's been reported that white nationalists have been appointed to ( future) election posts. When will people wake up that what little democracy we have left is constantly being attacked!!??

One thing I'm curious about, and this is more about curiosity than actual accountability, is how Disney's giving to Florida candidates may or may not have shifted after DeSantis and the Legislature punished Disney for daring to speak an opinion.
