Does anyone possess information as to why this carbuncle and the other congressional supporters of Jan. 6 have not yet been prosecuted for treason?!

Exactly what does it say about us as a nation that we allow treasonous bastards to legislate or determine the use of the American taxpayer treasure?

Republicans are cowards. There will be no courage or honor displayed and Jordan will become speaker, 2nd in line to the Presidency. It doesn't take much imagination to see what will happen next.

WTF!

It says that these people have found that norms are not laws. Founders hoped that those serving in government would be people of virtue. They Knew there would be bad actors along the way, but never an entire party.

We need to be careful in our choice of words lest we become tyrants ourselves. The meaning of the word "treason" is specifically set forth in the Constitution. I suggeest we use it in that context only.

Point carefully considered, Stephen, thank you. The Oxford dictionary defines treason as, among other things: the crime of betraying one's country, to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government.

Jordan was in on the meetings with Trump prior to Jan 6, Pence and Pelosi's desired deaths were called for and broadcasted, and they tried to cancel the votes of the American People and forcibly overthrow the government. I think Treason is an appropriate term. Oh, and people died and were seriously injured.

In the US, the treason laws only apply if we are at declared war with enemy aided or abetted. There are plenty of other laws that cover the rest of what the OED includes under treason. One could probably get away with calling the any acts within the OED (or similar) as "treacherous" because that includes the connotation "like treason." But the word "treason" itself should be restricted in the context of "why isn't X indicted for treason" because it implies that the DOJ can do something it can't actually do under our law. That makes people mad at DOJ without any actual basis for the anger.

Thanks, Susan, for the great info and adding to my furious perspective. Noted.

I've been looking into this more, from the historical perspective. The definition of "enemy" is the clue--and it is narrowed by case law to formal enemies to PREVENT a tyrannical leader from bringing claims of treason against political opponents.

If trump were to be elected, imagine the attempts. I hope the Extremes actually follow precedent if that should happen.

The Rosenbergs were convicted and sentenced for espionage, not treason. Russia was not a declared enemy.

Treason is the word. Just like “head in the sand” is the position!

Thank you D Kitterman👍👏🏻🤗

I know. But it plays into the game of TFG and his followers, for whom the word is not only applicable to opponents but is inexorably tied to the death penalty. As for example in the case of General Milley.

“None of the companies responded”. Shocking. There is no need for them to respond formally, however. The Supreme Court says that donations are speech. They are already saying everything we need to know about them.

Side note, Jim Jordan’s district is adjacent to mine. I live in what used to be John Boehner’s district. All you need to know about Jim Jordan is that John Boehner despised him. The only thing I think Boehner and I ever agreed on.

The potential confirmation of Jim Jordan as House Speaker just goes to show that the proverbial barrel has no bottom when it comes to the Republican Party.

Gym Jordan is just doing the work to destroy democracy as he was told to by his true leader Putin !!

We all know that Trump has become the leader of the Republican Party, and that the Republican Party values money over the well being of humanity. Unmitigated greed as the path to power is acted out in almost every corporation--as Judd has shown us in many PI articles. Jim Jordan proudly acts as Trump's lackey--I remember him clearly during the intensive video recordings showing what was going on during January 6th. Jordan was smiling, joining a small group at the back of the auditorium looking out at those trying to break through. It was hard to see whether he was waiting to open the doors or keep them shut. (That image of him stood out to me.) Jordan has never shown that he has any will or purpose that serves the American people.

Jim Jordon is a minor demon with major (albeit temporary) influence at this time.

I believe that arrogance coupled with the incompetence caused by a lack of understanding of how things really work will lay the maga fools low.

Problem is, while they'll grab all the rope they need to hang themselves, in doing so, they will do MAJOR damage on their way to the gallows.

Valerie...trump went from despised by his own party, and certainly most America, to their messiah. How? Not as much much money as...fear. Fear of trump's cult following and the votes they possess. Threats of being primaried with trump endorsed, cult backed opponents. Loss of their gerrymandered seats...thus power. Ultimately it's the money but grounded on pure gutless fear of losing their seat of power.

Yes, you're right. FEAR is promoted by Trump, and Foxx knows that fear sells. "Money, Sex, and Power" continue to show up as driving forces (past, present, and maybe, forever). Loss of a political seat can have a negative impact on all of these motivating drives.

Let's do everything in our power to prevent Jordan from ascending to House Speaker. In yesterday's first vote, 20 R's voted NO. Jessica Craven's Substack yesterday suggested the following tactic. Do it — and spread the word!

"Call the “No On Jordan” Republicans 📲

This is a bit unusual, but I just saw that a far-right account on Twitter posted the names and phone numbers of the 20 Republicans who voted against Jordan just now. This account urges people to “melt their phones” telling them they must change their votes to Jordan. I’m going to make an exception to my usual rule of not calling lawmakers who aren’t ours and say that it would be good to call as many of these folks as possible and thank them instead. We should also urge them to stick to their guns. That wasn’t an easy vote to take in this atmosphere, and they’re going to get pummeled by MAGA for it."

They also posted the phone numbers for their family members, who were deeply intimidated by the messages they received.

"The Democrats should never reward an insurrectionist whose actions threatened their lives and tried to overthrow the government. If anything, by not giving into the forgive and forget messaging, the Democrats are doing the Republican Party a service. They are forcing the party to come to grips with their extremists and make them irrelevant." Riverdaughter @TheConfluence

Yesterday, incredulous that a Jim Jordan could possibly be elected to the position of Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, I stopped myself and realized that ship has sailed. This is a country that elected Trump. Anything is possible; there is no bottom.

The Pervert who failed to protect young men from sexual exploitation and went on to become a Traitor in the Jan 6 coup--aka Jism Jordan--really is representative of the RNC, come to think of it.

Expand full comment

It is possible that Jim Jordan is the WORST possible choice for speaker, and would be even if he had not supported the insurrection on January 6 or turned a blind eye to sexual abuse at OSU. He’s unqualified because every time he has an opportunity, he demonstrates his ignorance and his stupidity. He simply is not capable of doing the job, regardless of his politics or his history. He blusters and rants because there is no substance behind his words, which means he lacks the persuasive and strategic abilities that are necessary for a speaker to succeed. If the Republicans elect him (as seems inevitable, because his ego won’t allow him to back down, so he will hold the country hostage until he gets his chance to ruin it further), the Republicans will devalue the speakership as much as they have devalued the presidency.

Very interesting both the contributors to GYM Jordan & the House members who would vote for him as Speaker can suspend the truth about who he is & ignore the long record of his despicable behavior - both in & out of Congress. Why the free pass? Gym is unfit to be in Congress at all, in any role. Embarrassing Ohio is sending it’s filth to Congress.
