But...............but................the Republicans said that the cause of the mass shootings was video games. Why would they lie (yes, I'm being sarcastic)? And then they said it was "mental health". Of course, they also oppose background checks for anyone who buys a gun, including mental health checks, but hey, why quibble over semantics?
Look, the only country in the world where this type of horrific carnage happens with any regularity is the United States. And no, gun nuts, the solution is NOT more guns (that's the NRA's solution to everything, apparently). The solution is getting rid of assault weapons or other devices which allow regular rifles to be converted into semi-automatics. The solution is comprehensive, national background checks that would prevent anyone with a history of violence and/or mental illness from every buying a gun. And finally, the solution would include opening up gun manufacturers to civil liability for their flooding of this country with their weapons (yes, I am also aware that the Supreme Court has spoken on this issue, and with the current makeup of the Court, it will not change anytime soon. So, a constitutional amendment would be necessary, and that will never pass in the South or Western states).
This morning trump ‘proposed’ strong background check legislations attached to immigration reform. What a slap in the face! The immigrants were targets!
This is a keeper. The numbers cited for gun ownership are horrific. This country has an addiction as well as an awful record concerning hate & racism. This president has overtly encouraged people to act on their fears. It’s obvious this President will do nothing about this current state of affairs. It’s up to us folks. Make your voices against this atmosphere known at the ballot box, locally, statewide, and nationally. It is all up to us.
All of this is a distraction: The problem is not hatred, mental illness, male toxicity, or frustration with your American life - IT'S THE GUNS, Y'ALL. Focus on the guns.
